Hello gang. Welcome to our new commenters and to Frank who will be incorporated his fantastic data and poll analysis into our content. Frank’s first set of data is here.
We’ve been experimenting with open threads the past week, something we call “Open Talk.” In open talk threads, which are always clearly labeled in the title just like this one, you can talk about anything you like, just like Rush Limbaugh’s Friday show. They will usually incorporate a topic of interest to some people, at the rate of one per day. They are not everybody’s cup of tea but I’m enjoying them immensely and they will continue.
Starting tomorrow, the open threads will begin scrolling like every other post rather than stick to the top all of the time. However, you can find them by using the convenient links at the top of both sidebars or scrolling down the page a bit.
By popular demand we have made other changes as well on our flagship Right Pundits site. You should no longer see pop-under ads and you should hear very few if any talking advertisements. Those are clearly annoying to most of us.
We have also expanded the comment paging to 25 per page and added the “view all comments” option on the homepage. Meanwhile we are incorporating new data in the sidebars, with help from Frank.
Keep the suggestions coming because you are helping us improve the site.

tony, what the heck DID you have?
August 7th, 2009 at 2:18 pm
Arriba, the Martinez resignation does seem to put Crist in a pickle. When was the last time a governor appointed himself to a Senate seat? Seems that would look pretty bad.
August 7th, 2009 at 2:24 pm
Guessing Tony had Obamitis.
August 7th, 2009 at 2:34 pm
maybr you’re right, mccain. I thought the primary symptoms for obamitis were chills, fever, and a nagging belief that you probably shouldve stayed in bed all week.

Enter the Obama death chamber, hahaahahah.
“As more Americans delve into the disturbing details of the nationalized health care plan that the current administration is rushing through Congress, our collective jaw is dropping, and we’re saying not just no, but hell no!
The Democrats promise that a government health care system will reduce the cost of health care, but as the economist Thomas Sowell has pointed out, government health care will not reduce the cost; it will simply refuse to pay the cost. And who will suffer the most when they ration care? The sick, the elderly, and the disabled, of course. The America I know and love is not one in which my parents or my baby with Down Syndrome will have to stand in front of Obama’s “death panel” so his bureaucrats can decide, based on a subjective judgment of their “level of productivity in society,” whether they are worthy of health care. Such a system is downright evil.
Health care by definition involves life and death decisions. Human rights and human dignity must be at the center of any health care discussion.
Rep. Michele Bachmann highlighted the Orwellian thinking of the president’s health care advisor, Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel, the brother of the White House chief of staff, in a floor speech to the House of Representatives. I commend her for being a voice for the most precious members of our society, our children and our seniors.
We must step up and engage in this most crucial debate. Nationalizing our health care system is a point of no return for government interference in the lives of its citizens. If we go down this path, there will be no turning back. Ronald Reagan once wrote, “Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Actually, a government bureau is the nearest thing to eternal life we’ll ever see on this earth.” Let’s stop and think and make our voices heard before it’s too late.

According to NRO, the rate of 9.4% is bogus. The real rate, factoring those who have “given up” is 9.9%.

Video of Palin?
August 7th, 2009 at 2:55 pm
eph, I thought the real rate was 16%?
August 7th, 2009 at 2:57 pm
Tommy Boy, that’s quite a statement by Sarah Palin. The Obama Death Panel has a chilling ring to it.
Eph, where is that National Review link?
Arriba, with Obamitis, we can always Hope to get better.

“since gary bit*h slapped her, she has been on her best behavior.”
True. Not buying it long term though. All it takes is one Sara Palin link and BINGO – back to KOS.

9.9% true unemployment rate is staggering.
Could get more violent this weekend, Eph. Thanks for the links.
August 7th, 2009 at 3:24 pm
Actually, I’ve seen some economist estimate that the unemployment rate could be as high as 12-13%, especially if you use the same data and figures they used to measure the economy during the Great Depression. Numbers today are so watered down (to make things seem better then they are) that they are almost meaningless.
August 7th, 2009 at 3:27 pm
Also, why is it that during the Bush years when we had like 5% unemployment, the media was always running stories about underemployment and discouraged workers, but now that Obama is in charge, a rise in unemployment is actually good news for the economy. Ace posit’s this theory for Reuters and other news organizations:
Low unemployment + Republican President = Hidden bad economic news.
High unemployment + Democrat President = Economic recovery
August 7th, 2009 at 3:29 pm
Hello everyone,
Do we have a “true” unemployment rate from last month? This way we can do an apples-apples comparison.
August 7th, 2009 at 3:37 pm
arriba,
I thought I had Lyme disease. All the symptoms were there (I’m no doctor, but I did take a peek at Web MD). I was up cutting firewood where I live near Butte, MT, and felt ill a few days later.
The doctor dismissed that because there weren’t any known cases of LD but tested me for West Nile Virus, which turned out to be negative.
In the end he just said by looking at my white blood count I had a “some kind of virus” and that it should take care of itself in a few days. He was right–until the coughing started.
Now I’m going to have to look up the symptoms of Swine Flu and see if that involves a lot of coughing.
August 7th, 2009 at 3:42 pm
Yeah, so I just read Geraghty’s analysis and it looks like the BLS, who is in charge of labor statistics, is playing with definitions again. Didn’t drudge have a headline a week ago warning that the government would be playing with definitions to make things seem better? I wonder if this was what he was referring to.
August 7th, 2009 at 3:45 pm
There are lies, Obama’s damn lies, statistics and Obama’s statistics.
Each one is interchangeable with the others.
August 7th, 2009 at 3:55 pm
I wonder what Mark Twain would have to say about Obama?
August 7th, 2009 at 4:08 pm
Not buying it long term though. All it takes is one Sara Palin link and BINGO – back to KOS.
actually eph, she has passed on at least 2 sarah links already.
August 7th, 2009 at 4:31 pm
Eph — I know I asked this before, but I don’t remember your response: Are you in LD7?
