We reported yesterday, like every other news agency and blog in the free world that the “Cash for Clunkers” program had run out of money and was being terminated by the government. Mysteriously, there has been a “Cash for Clunkers” extension in about a 24 hour period with $2 billion more dollars. Hmmmm.
Does anyone else find it odd that this government program designed to have you driving some piece of garbage that you wouldn’t otherwise drive has miraculously been allocated $2 billion dollars in less time than it would take for me to bum $20 bucks off my brother?
As reported here by Bryan, the “Cash for Clunkers” program was dead in the water, no money, tapped out, $1 billion gone. But now, after blogs like ours, news outlets, and talk radio began to speculate just how bad a government run healthcare system might be under the same clowns, they rush through $2 billion extra dollars before the August recess.
Perhaps even funnier was all of the confusion that the democrats in congress were operating under; some were saying the program was terminated, some were saying it wasn’t. Congress was reporting a deal had been reached for $2 billion in extra funding at the same time Obama was “working” on a bi-partisan agreement to extend the program.
Do you ever get the feeling that you’re being played like a violin? I do, and Obama is the musician on this one. Like we reported before, this isn’t really about getting consumers into a new car and it certainly isn’t about saving the car companies. Most dealers are reporting trouble even being reimbursed for their trouble. This is all about control; they love the fact that they are driving consumers to buy little cars that they want them to drive. Mostly for environmentalist wacko reasons; if that were not true, the rebate would be for “any” car, no strings attached.
The government, especially Obama and the democrats didn’t want egg on their face. That’s exactly why there is a “cash for clunkers” extension, to save face.

I wonder what will happen to all the scrap metal from the scrapped vehicles. I bet China buys it all up!

Ron,
I’m for building a giant monument to Obama with all that junk right on the Capitol Mall.
It is fun watching the Dems in utter disarray, but they are trying hard to bankrupt the country so that parts not fun.

Seems to me the Cash for Clunkers program is a great example of liberal big government stupidity, which Democrats call a successful government program
The program runs out of money in 6 days (poor planning), so the liberals vote to increase the debt by $2 Billion and extend it. A businessman would be smart enough to know if demand is high, raise your price (or lower your rebate). Why not reduce the clunker rebate to $2250 and double the number of people/cars who partake?

No one here seems to get it. The Liberals think that this is the first thing that had a positive result. This will become a agency and be on permanent status soon.
“the trouble with our liberal friends is not that they’re ignorant; it’s just that they know so much that isn’t so.”

One can only wonder how much they’re underestimating the cost of National Health Care.
Oh! We’re out of money? Just add another two trillion.
Scary!!!

I think I posted this on another thread but this program is turning into a nightmare. I have a friend who owns 2 Lincoln-Mercury dealerships and he says it is chaos. The paperwork on the internet is incredibly confusing and the system goes down a lot.
Also, there biggest sellers are still SUV which don’t qualify. He instructed his sales people to steer people away from the few cars that qualify. He doesn’t think they will receive total reimbursment and does not want to take a both courtesy of the government.

OK if obama and Pelosi can’t get this right than how the hell do you expect them to get healthcare right.

Seems like there are dealers having trouble getting reimbursed – for the most part those stories seem to be about Ford Dealers – keep in mind they did not accept stimulus dollars.
Seems like other dealers are not facing red tape and hurdles – Chrysler and GM (Government Motors)
I’m sure there was shock and chagrin in Washington when it was announced that the Ford Focus was the top seller in this program……
Any betters out there? I bet that if the $2 billion is released, they ration re-imbusement so that GM and Chrysler will get the lions share of the funding. This administration is all about leveling the playing field. I would say Ford has an unfair advantage in that they actually listen to people and produce cars people want to buy, making it unnecessay to accept outside funding and “intervention”.
Just some food for thought ……………..

Wow, you’re all a bunch of idiots, esp Shannon. These aren’t POS cars here. I managed to get a Toyota Highlander out of this deal. You don’t need to buy a tiny POS or a hybrid, just a car which isn’t nearly as bad as the one you’re trading in.
You douche-bags are so caught up trying to point fingers and say the dem’s are looking bad here, but have you been to a car dealership in the past 2 weeks? There are twice as many people shopping for cars if not more. It’s doing more for the economy than anything the GOP has tried in 10 years.

I love it when random people come in and just start attacking others. If you have a point to make, make it. If you just want to rant you just make yourself look like an idiot.

@McAfee so, whats your point?

Hey Someone, I guess the Bush tax cuts of 2001 and 2003 did nothing for the economy right?
Yeah you’re right, Cash for Clunkers, savior of the economy.
