bipartisan

According to some sources there is a secret Senate bi-partisan health-care reform plan in the works. There are reports of secret negotiations between some Republican and Democrat centrists in the Senate working to get get any health-care plan done.

After weeks of secretive talks, a bipartisan group in the Senate edged closer Monday to a health care compromise that omits a requirement for businesses to offer coverage to their workers and lacks a government insurance option that President Barack Obama favors, according to numerous officials.

Like bills drafted by Democrats, the proposal under discussion by six members on the Senate Finance Committee would bar insurance companies from denying coverage to any applicant. Nor could insurers charge higher premiums on the basis of pre-existing medical conditions.

But it jettisons other core Democratic provisions in a reach for bipartisanship on an issue that has so far produced little.

The President has repeatedly said give me a bill, any bill will do. So, would this kind of bill pass his test? Would Democrats even favor something like this? On the one hand it seems watered down enough that you might get some Republican support. On the other hand it seems stripped out of the main provisions that Obama and the hard-left really want such as a public option. You might end up loosing Democrat support if it gets watered down too much. Odds are this will still be bad, but not so horrible that it won’t get passed.

My guess is that after some point the President will just want to sign a bill to save face. Even if it is a watered down piece of crap that won’t really fix anything, he’ll just say “see, I promised health-care reform and you got it”. Then, the Democrats will just amend it later to add all the juicy goodness that they want. I wonder which RINOs are in cahoots on this piece of crap. Grahmnesty I’d guess, probably McCain (the foot soldier in the Reagan army). We need a list and we need it now to demand that they think real long and hard about passing legislation that wastes more money and accomplishes no reform. I’ll reserve total judgment until I see a bill, but from this sounds like it could have enemies on both sides.

By the way, everyone wants to blame big Pharma on the rising costs of health-care, they seem to be the boogey man de jure. Does anyone know why big Pharma is pushing to get this passed? Does that make any of you on the left suspicious? In any event, I’m nervous about any secret senate health-care reform bill because that just means the public is in the dark.
