On a tip from lisab:
A NY nurse was forced to participate in a late term abortion and now she is suing Mt. Sinai Hospital over the incident. Catherina Cenzon-DeCarlo is the plaintiff in the nurse Mt. Sinai Hospital suit. She says that she was forced to participate in a late term abortion, something that is against her religion. Ms. DeCarlo is a catholic.
The NY nurse was told by her superiors that she would lose her job over insubordination and patient abandonment if she didn’t participate in the late term abortion. Mrs.Denzon- DeCarlo says the patient’s life was never in danger as her boss says. From the NY Post:
The nurse informed her supervisors six hours before the procedure that she had previously told the hospital she would not participate in an abortion due to her religious beliefs. She claims that at her job interview she gave the hospital a written statement that she would not participate in an abortion. The NY Post states that the nurse was then informed the patient could die if the nurse did not perform her duties in the procedure.
This story about a nurse forced to participate in late term abortion should shock and outrage even the most radical pro-choicer. Religious freedoms are a basic right guaranteed in the Constitution, if a Muslim had been forced to come in contact with pork during the course of their job the ACLU would be all over it. Let’s hope the ACLU isn’t sitting this one out.
This NY nurse, who happens to be a Catholic, told her employers at Mt. Sinai Hospital that she would not participate in abortions. I’m guessing they told her it would be no problem for her to sit them out if she wished.
Mrs. Denzon-DeCarlo has been employed by Mount Sinai Hospital since 2004. Her lawsuit against the hospital is now trying to “force Mount Sinai to give up federal funding it receives, because it failed to uphold a federal rule protecting employees who have moral objections to controversial procedures” according to the NY Post.
Put yourself in this nurses shoes, you start your shift only to realize thirty minutes later that you have been assigned to participate in a murder. Whether you agree with the murder angle or not you have to respect Mrs. Denzon-DeCarlo’s view that abortion is murder. I respect your view that it is not, but I don’t have to participate in one.
The Mt. Sinai suit will hopefully bring to light the issue of religious rights and freedoms in the workplace. This nurse should never have been forced to participate in a late term abortion. There is something very wrong and immoral about that in itself.

i would have had to refuse to participate. i would not have given it a second thought.

Boy. I thought it was bad enough they are threatening pharmacists who won’t fill morning after pills. Now this.
Bully for her on the lawsuit. I hope you will follow it and give an update as things progress.

Ok. You win. I give up. Let’s just make abortion illegal, like it used to be. Any woman who wants an abortion, she can just go find some quack doctor to stick a coat hanger up her uterus. It would be worth it JUST TO HEAR YOU SHUT UP ABOUT IT. You win.
July 27th, 2009 at 12:44 am
That’s great, Klo. But it isn’t the form of murder that should alarm you, but that fact that it happens at all. An argument like your facetious one, that murder should be legal because murderers would otherwise be more brutal, is an interesting one. Is a hatchet over the head a better way to go than a lethal injection? Probably not, but at least I have a better chance than if California legalized random murder. Know what I mean?
July 27th, 2009 at 1:00 am
Your being mean. What about a woman’s right to chose, in both instances? men!!!!!
July 27th, 2009 at 1:03 am
well i am a woman and i choose to shoot southerners … is that ok too?
well … not really, i don’t actually own a gun, but it is the principle …
July 27th, 2009 at 1:20 am
I don’t know,– is your version of the Blake Motel in the South? I would like to think woman maintain domain over their own bodies just like gates maintains domain over his house. I don’t care what race or sex someone is, I care about their privacy rights.
July 27th, 2009 at 1:40 am
what about the privacy rights of the baby?
gates had privacy rights to his house when he was in his house, which were completely irrelevent when he followed the cop outside into the public way.
it is really too bad the facts don’t support your ideology, but they don’t.
July 27th, 2009 at 6:32 am
don’t you think the woman has some privacy rights, or is she just another captured citizen in your gulag? so you don’t think people should have privacy rights? have you read the Bill of Rights lately?
July 27th, 2009 at 6:58 am
the Bill of Rights actually has no mention to the right to privacy … have you ever read it?
imo, the woman does have a right to privacy, but it should not trump a person’s right to live.
however, that is not the subject of this post. the subject of the post is should a hospital be allowed to fire someone for not murdering a baby. i say no. i hope they pay severely.
July 27th, 2009 at 7:04 am
I am a huge proponent on a person’s right to privacy. That shield of privacy does not extend to the outright murder of a human being. Sorry.
July 27th, 2009 at 7:15 am
the right to privacy is also no where found in the Bill of Rights, although Brian seems to think it is.
however, the right to an abortion is actually not the focus here.
the question is, does a woman have the right to force someone who objects, to give her an abortion.
up to 20% of the hospitals and clinics in the usa are catholic run, depending on the state and how you define clinics. many more catholics (and other christians) work in hospitals.
if they are forced to perform abortions as obama has proposed, they will shut down.
July 27th, 2009 at 7:28 am
I hanker for a hunk of cheese.
July 27th, 2009 at 7:40 am
In New York City where there is a great demand for nurses, why would this nurse accept a position in a hospital where abortions are performed if she is against it? That is very strange.
She apparently has assisted in other abortion procedures but has decided to sue over this one. It seems fishy to me and no doubt that there is some financial gain to her participation in this lawsuit.
July 27th, 2009 at 7:43 am
This is just a case of the pros using their authority to force the antis to do what they don’t believe in.
I wonder if that nurse informed her superiors at that time that she would be filing a lawsuit post-haste. If not, she should have.
I find it hard to believe that with a six hour window the hospital couldn’t find a replacement.
July 27th, 2009 at 7:48 am
she may not have been a practicing catholic before, or maybe she was threatened over those procedures as well. maybe she is only against late term abortions. it does not matter.
they forced her to assist or else.
i hope they have to cough up lots of money. they are a hospital, they had access to plnty of nurses who would assist, they should have gotten one.

Not only they kill babies, now they punish those that object to killing them. What’s next? To force those that believe that abortion is wrong to pay for abortions on demand?
July 27th, 2009 at 7:55 am
“Its my body so leave it alone”
Yeah, too bad moron. You’re body is sustaining anothet life right now so its not all about you and your wanting to get back out in the field a f*ck around some more.
KLO, ever heard of adoption, keeping the kid, working something out ?
If you’re ready to stick a wire hanger up yourself, risking death to both of you, just to rid yourself of a baby it suffices to say that you got way more serious problems than just a baby and shouldnt really be watching a kid anyway.

How late was this term ? After waiting this long couldnt the mother wait just a little bit longer in order to find a willing nurse ?
All of a sudden the heat is on ?
Janet has a point.

EPH,
You don’t miss me? I am hurt!
July 27th, 2009 at 8:00 am
@ Brian and Klo. I’m one of the few conservatives that is pro choice. Now let’s see, you have pills, foams, iud’s, patches, implants and condoms, just to name a few. There is also Plan B, which I don’t object to, and abstinence if you can comprehend the concept. This sounds like plenty of choices to me.
According to womens groups, women are just as competent, intelligent, and decisive as men. Yet they can’t seem to control their bodies when it counts the most. And partial birth abortion falls into the category of indecicsiveness moreso than anything I can think of. You can’t have it both ways.
As for one having domain over their own bodies. Remember that suicide is also illegal.
July 27th, 2009 at 9:10 am
before this turns into a pro-abortion vs. anti-abortion thread, which would go on forever
keep in mind that the point was not whether the woman had an abortion
it was whether they could force the nurse to perform it
July 27th, 2009 at 9:23 am
“What about a woman’s right to chose, in both instances?”
No Brian it is also a women’s right to choose to have sex, not use good judgement and then wish they had not done the deed because the father is long gone.
Adoption is a great alternative. I have 7 adopted grand-children. Should we have killed them because they were not convenient.
If you think that allowing a child to begin the birthing process and then stick scissors into it head and suck the brain out is a good choice then you are just plain heartless and have no soul.
My daughter in in nursing school at a Catholic College. They preach life and then turn around and support ObamaCare even though it will require any medical faculties that receives ObamaCare to provide abortions. My daughter has 2 of the 7 and will not take part on any abortion.
As for this nurse, I am with lisab. I would have been gone so fast they would have forgotten my name.
I bet you pro choice people have never seen the procedure.
Here are some links. It is only a demo with a doll. ttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s_W75zh1j2I
I could not bring myself to put the real thing on this site. If you think it is okay to do this, please google it and if it does not make you sick at your stomach, you are simply dead. May God have mercy on your soul.

Nurses in NYC are unionized. Why didn’t she call her union rep.? This isn’t the most intelligent nurse. Also, she could have went home sick. I guess her paycheck is more importnat than a human life. Why work for a hospital that does abortions. It’s not a secret. What is this nurse’s problem?
July 27th, 2009 at 11:32 pm
“Why didn’t she call her union rep.? ”
I dont know. Arent most unions joined at the hip with democrats ?
Michelle or Janine Garafolo probably would of answered the phone.
Yeah Tim but you gotta remember. As much as I’m against all types of abortion “late term” abortions are a whole nuther ball game.
The nurse might of had no objection had it not been so late with the mother having months to know the situation or get ready for it.
If the nurse didnt ever expect to be a part of an abortion in a hospital then shes truly an idiot and could be liable for insubordination.
I guess we all really need to find out “exactly” what her designated duties were.
Are their not doctors who refude to perform abortions ? Or is that only possible if he owns the practice ?
Uh oh, I smell muslim footbaths and prayer rugs coming to the nearest hospital locker room
