Now that cat is out of the bag. Governor Mark Sanford who disappeared off the face of the earth last week was having an affair with an Argentine mistress named Maria everyone wants to know, and pictures everyone wants to see, and which we will soon have and you will soon see. The world wants to know who is the mystery woman and what is he doing with his career? See video of the Mark Sanford press conference here.
For four days staff, friends, family and foe were unable to locate Governor Sanford. His office finally resolved that he was hiking on as Appalachian trail when inquiring minds wanted to know, but exactly where on that remote trail was unknown.
Update: The name of Mark Sanford’s girlfriend is “Maria” as revealed in some revealing email messages between the governor and said girlfriend. She has two kids and lives in Buenos Aires on a street named Republica de la India, Palermo district.
One of Sanford’s email messages read:
“Two, mutual feelings - You have a particular grace and calm that I adore. You have a level of sophistication that so fitting with your beauty. I could digress and say that you have the ability to give magnificent gentle kisses, or that I love your tan lines or that I love the curve of your hips, the erotic beauty of you holding yourself (or two magnificent parts of yourself) in the faded glow of the night’s light - but hey, that would be going into sexual details.”
Read all the steamy details right here.
Suddenly Sanford appeared at the airport on a return flight from South America. He said that he was not on a soul-cleansing hike and hastily arranged a press conference for June 24th, 2009. During the press conference he admitted to an affair with an Argentina woman which has lasted a year. Now we know.
Read more about it here and here and here where you can learn than an Argentina newspaper has the goods.
Political affairs are nothing new of course. Bill Clinton set the bar rather high, while JFK was a notorious womanizer. In a famous magazine interview, Michelle Obama allowed that she was furious at Barack Obama for inattentiveness to the family, so to speak.
Back to Sanford. “I’ve been unfaithful to be my wife. It began very innocently. I’ve let down a lot of people. That’s the bottom line.”
Photos of the Mark Sanford affair mistress Maria will be posted below when we can find them. Meanwhile view a video of the press conference.

Just wanted to express that impressed to see Right Pundits reporting this. I’ll even spare you the backhanded compliments.

Oh wait, I missed the paragraph of vintage MCCAIN where he can involve Obama in any negative story. Up next “Obama and the fall of the Roman Empire”

Sanford only says that he has been unfaithful to his wife - he never says it was with a woman, only “a friend”.
I’m guessing South American shemale.

As I always say in cases like this, the man’s marriage and love life aren’t really my business, or anyone else’s. Unlike Ensign, Sanford did not make his career on the basis of lobbing accusations at other politicians for their marital problems, so this doesn’t have quite the same tinge of hypocrisy.
It’s too bad though; this will obviously tank him in terms of a 2012 nomination. Looks like we’re headed for another Palin loss at the hands of Obama. Awesome.

What a crappy website to be fishing for people who are looking for the pic of the Argentinian woman and then not having it and claiming they “will have it soon”. Bait and switch. Amateur website.

Where is a photo of his mistress?
June 24th, 2009 at 11:40 am
Oh for the love of God..
Why can’t politicians keep their pants zipped?
Jerks!

@ Listen up: Had you listened to the P-Conf, you would have noted he referred to *her* having 2 sons.

Rhayader,
If a person is a politician I think it is appropriate for his aberrant sex life to be, well, exposed. At the very least this is a person without HONOR, is a liar and that is reason enough not to be in public office. It should be page one and then the voters can decide if they want to continue to trust he/she or it as the voters continue to do in the case of Barney Frank.

@Hondo: Yeah I mean that’s the argument you always hear; that dishonesty in one’s personal life will lead to professional dishonesty. Not only do I question this link — sex and love involve one’s basic instincts in ways that public policy never could — but I often wonder why these marriage problems receive so much more scrutiny than real, actual political dishonesty, like that which supposedly follows from marital problems.
In other words, we dump all over guys (or girls) for the possible cause of this kind of corruption, while the actual corruption and lies often get no mention whatsoever.
June 24th, 2009 at 11:58 am
Ok you rabid liberals…do you apply the same standards to the corrupt and immoral demorats? No, you don’t, but why? Sanford came forth with the truth and NO excuses. Compare that to say…umm..John Edwards?

Not a bad point Rhayader but I really think a scumbag is a scumbag is a scumbag.
June 24th, 2009 at 12:05 pm
That’s two down and–how many?–to go! This is one way to get rid of ‘em! Let ‘em do it themselves. No fuss. No muss. Adios, amigos.
June 24th, 2009 at 12:09 pm
well it is a sad day for SC, he is still an honorable man …why is it big news when a rep does it when the dems loose control of their pants ..it is not a surprise …i would vote for him .. he fessed up …didn’t lie
June 24th, 2009 at 12:10 pm
Geez. Argentina? Isn’t there plenty of action available in the good ol’ USA? Are we outsourcing skanks now, too?
June 24th, 2009 at 12:24 pm
Not a bad point Rhayader but I really think a scumbag is a scumbag is a scumbag.
Yeah, fair enough; of course, plenty of good people have had marital problems and have been dishonest. That doesn’t mean they have no ability to move past that, learn from the experience, and continue to live meaningful, productive lives.
I’m really not trying to excuse infidelity, so much as trying to put it into perspective and questioning its relevance to one’s political talent and integrity.
June 24th, 2009 at 12:30 pm
I want Clinton-logic applied here. Let’s leave Mark alone so that he can get back to running the state!
June 24th, 2009 at 12:48 pm
@Ole Dave: You’re forgetting…it’s only acceptable, forgivable and approved if it’s done by demorats! Republicans making a mistake and admitting it won’t be tolerated by the left wing azz-clowns.
June 24th, 2009 at 12:50 pm
Republican slimeballs are crawling out of every bedroom, closet, and men’s room in America, and OBAMA is your example of famous philanderers? HAAAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!
June 24th, 2009 at 1:09 pm
@Ginny : I must admit, liberal sleaze are excellent teachers of amoral behavior, i.e slimeball-ness. You should be applauding your team for sharing their tawdry ways with the rest of us. Once in awhile, you do win one over.
June 24th, 2009 at 1:09 pm
“Judge not…”
Whatever happned to the possibility of this sentiment when it comes to public figures who are just, at the end of the day, meat puppets like us all?
How is this aberrant behavior, when 50% of males married more than 5 years on average admit to some infidelity? Possibly an indictment on the efficacy of monogamy?
June 24th, 2009 at 1:15 pm
Too bad he got caught.
June 24th, 2009 at 1:31 pm
Politics is pretty much over now that we know the politician are lying bags, pretty much the same as any perv with a raincoat, they just learned to lie and cover up with flowery biblical talk, really shameless. Gay or whatever they dont care, long as they are in “charge” to sadistically take someone’s rights away by doing things the persons body. Dont vote.
June 24th, 2009 at 2:40 pm
Just to add to my previous point about a man’s personal problems having little relevance to his suitability as a politician:
Mark Sanford not only avoided abuse of state resources, he completely separated his personal affair from his position as governor. As we all know, even his closest staffers and family were unable to reach him. While Sanford was obviously trying to keep his behavior concealed, he also seemed to recognize that his was a personal decision for which he is accountable.
What the man did may not have been right — especially considering the effect it had on his family — but he respected the line between his personal actions and his official duties; something that so many scandalized politicians were not able to do. His respect of that line earns him at least a little bit of the same respect from the public.
