Gays and Lesbians who supported Obama must be having a hissy fit because he has not moved fast enough to enact their priorities. Well you all can calm down because President Obama has given benefits of same sex partners to federal employees. It does not include health insurance, but hold on. That will be added soon. Small steps. Remember the progressive movement takes small steps.

The gay community is pitching a fit because the Clinton-Error policy of “Don’t ask, Don’t tell, has yet to be receded by Obama. He promised to do so during the 3 years he ran for president. They are also in a tizzy because of last weeks Justice Department decision to defend the Defense of Marriage Act. You know traditional marriage like the one that most of our parents had, one man and one woman. That is so like 1940’s.

They were so upset that several gay fundraisers withdrew (sorry for that visual) from a planned fundraising event for the DNC June 25 where Vice President Joe Biden is scheduled to speak. That should be a source for a post or two since Biden never knows what he will say. Wonder if he will offend them with a few gay jokes.

This is seen as a wink and a nod to gays because Obama has not intervened in court martial cases of gay and lesbians in the military. Sort of like Barry is saying, hey I’m getting there one step at a time. The Obama White House has said it wants Congress to repeal the Clinton policy as part of a “lasting and durable” solution, instead of intervening on individual cases.

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton promised last month to provide same sex partners the same benefits as opposite sex marriage couples but fail short of making financial benefits such as pensions and health insurance.

One of former President Clinton’s (Bill not Hillary) advisors on gay rights, Richard Socarides said, “If it doesn’t include health insurance, if he doesn’t talk about the military and about the (Justice Department) brief, I think it will fall short.” He said, “Right now, people are looking for real action.” (I bet they are Richard.)

The head of the Office of Personnel Management and the highest-ranking gay official in the Obama Administration, John Berry told a gay rally last weekend that Obama planned to take action on benefits soon.

All that being said, are we not discriminating against opposite sex non-married couples by not giving them these same benefits? There are plenty of people of the opposite sex that are not married but are life partners and they should enjoy the same benefits as married opposite sex couples and same sex couples enjoy. Oh wait; they don’t have an agenda so who really cares about them. Screw ‘em.
