Domestic Terrorism Against U.S. Army

A young man from Arkansas was arrested on Monday in connection with a shooting in Little Rock that killed one soldier and seriously wounded another at a military recruiting station. Police have stated publicly that his religious and political hatred of the United States was the motive in the shooting.

Abdulhakim Mujahid Muhammad, formerly known as Carlos Bledsoe, faces a first-degree murder charge and 15 counts of engaging in terrorist acts.

Muhammad is a convert to Islam, hence his name change. Police believe that his political and religious beliefs played a role in the shooting. According to CNN, Muhammad chose the Arkansas military center with the specific purpose of targeting military personnel.

This is the second case in recent weeks of American domestic terrorism. In New York, as we reported here, four men conspired to destroy the Riverdale Jewish Center and shoot down military planes.

Private William Long, 24, of Conway, Arkansas was killed in the Arkansas shooting. Muhammad was found with three guns in his SUV: an semi-automatic rifle, a .22-caliber rifle and a pistol.

These two incidents are disturbing because they are cases of homegrown terrorism. Neither the four men in New York nor Muhammed have any ties to foreign organizations or individuals. They decided that the country that they were raised in and lived in was evil and that they needed to do something to strike against it.
