At a time when President Barack Obama is refusing to close the border with Mexico and urging Americans not to panic, Vice President Joe Biden (aka, the Human Gaffe Machine) said on NBC’s Today Show that he would advise his family not to get into any subway, classroom or airplane.

Fortunately, no one takes what Joe Biden says seriously.

Joe Biden stated on the air that he would tell his family not to get into any small area where a person might sneeze and give them swine flu.

“I would tell members of my family, and I have, I wouldn’t go anywhere in confined places right now. It’s not that its going to Mexico, it’s that you are in a confined aircraft when one person sneezes, it goes everywhere through the aircraft,” Biden said.

Biden continued, “I would not be at this point, if they had another way of transportation, suggesting they ride the subway. From my perspective, it relates to is mitigation. If you’re out in the middle of a field and someone sneezes that’s one thing. If you’re in a closed aircraft, a closed container, closed car, a closed classroom, it’s a different thing.”

Nice work, Joe. At a time when the economy is floundering, encouraging people to avoid enclosed public spaces is probably not a good idea. Every major city in the country would effectively shut down. The airline and rail industries would collapse, and we’d be force to bail them out with taxpayer money. (BTW, we’re doing such a great job with Chrysler, which just filed Chapter 11, and will restructure with that other renowned international carmaker FIAT, (shaking my head at two doomed losers headed down the aisle together)).

Also, Obama’s message yesterday was to continue on in your lives. Just wash your hands more frequently. Avoid people who appear sick. You might consider checking with your boss before making statements that encourage people to become hermits.

But, again, fortunately, no one takes Joe Biden seriously.

Question for Obama: This guy was really a better option than Hillary?
