Barack Obama has named Harry Knox, a gay rights activist to the federal governmentâs Faith-Based Advisory Council. It was Harry Knox who last month called Pope Benedict XVI and Catholic bishops as ‘discredited leaders’ because of their opposition to same-sex marriage. Read more about it below, see photos, and a video.
Harry Knox, who is a newly appointed member of The One’s 25-member Advisory Council on Faith-based and Neighborhood Partnerships, is the director of the religion and faith program at the Human Rights Campaign, a radical homosexual activist group based in Washington.
In addition to those hateful comments he made about the Pope and his Bishops, Knox demonstrated further his qualifications to be on the ‘Faith-Based’ council by denouncing the Knights of Columbus, a Catholic fraternal service organization, as being ‘foot soldiers of a discredited army of oppression’. His comments were given to a gay newspaper last month for the Catholic Church’s support of Proposition 8, the successful November ballot measure that made same-sex marriage unconstitutional in California. Standing by his words, Knox went on to accuse the Pope of lying for preferring abstinence over condoms by saying:
“The Pope needs to start telling the truth about condom use. We are eager to help him do that. Until he is willing to do that and able, he’s doing a great deal more harm than good — not just in Africa but around the world. It is endangering people’s lives.â
Well now keep in mind that Harry’s role on the Faith-Based Advisory Council is suppose to be one of working on behalf of Americans committed to improving their communities, no matter their religious or political beliefs. So…
In response to his appointment, Knox declared:
“The lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community is eager to help the Administration achieve its goals ⦠And, of course, we will support the President in living up to his promise that government has no place in funding bigotry against any group of people.”
Unless of course that bigotry is directed toward Catholics and their beliefs.
Bill Donohue of the Catholic League is quite right to want the Faith-Based Advisory Council completely dissolved. Under Obama’s administration, it has become a mere shadow of what George W. Bush had wanted to achieve. It’s watered down in scope and is, to put it bluntly, a sham.
As with most other areas of life, government needs to stay out of the business of the Church and keep to the handful of tasks that justify it’s existence like protecting the rights and liberties of it’s citizens according to the Constitution, interrogating the heck out of terrorists, and defending our borders. Under Obama, that’s just not going to happen.
