Keira Knightley will appear in a two-minute television public service advertisement for the nonprofit organization Women’s Aid in England. In the advertisement, she will appear to be beaten severely by an abusive boyfriend. The advertisement is meant to raise awareness for domestic violence issues.

Keira Knightley is the waifish British film actress who has starred in blockbusters such as Pirates of the Caribbean, Atonement, Pride and Prejudice and Bend It Like Beckham, among other films. The 24-year-old actress was nominated for an Academy Award for her leading role in Pride and Prejudice in 2005. In the advertisement for Women’s Aid which will begin airing in April in England, she is slapped, knocked to the ground and kicked continually by her fictional boyfriend.

The advertisement is directed by Joe Wright, who directed Atonement.

Women’s Aid is a charity in England whose aim is to end domestic violence against women and children. In England, it oversees a network of domestic violence organizations and provides refuges and support services for women and children who are victims of domestic violence.
