G20 London Protests
Anarchists, Anti-capitalists, environmentalists and miscellaneous other protesters are rioting in London in conjunction with the G20 Summit that is taking place in London today. Protesters have stormed the Royal Bank of Scotland, breaking windows and entering the building. London police have been on heightened security in anticipation of these riots and have thus far been able to keep the crowds contained.
Riot police have been called in to help contain protesters in London. Video and photos are available at BBC.
While there is a potpourri of protesters, each group with their own agenda, a common thread seems to be hatred for the U.S.A. (and here we thought they would love us now that we have a new President!) and, as some signs suggest, they want to ‘Abolish Money’. Yeah, okay, that’s brilliant.
In some other developments today ….
Don Surber is reporting that charges against former Senator Ted Stevens have been dropped.
Ms. Underestimated notes that Morning Joe got emotional about Glenn Beck getting emotional. She’s got the video, of course.
Have you heard the news about Ann Althouse? She’s getting married …. to a commenter on her blog. There’s a really cute video of her being downright giggly about it.

I just find myself wondering if its Obama’s intent to throw out the U.S. Constitution all together.

Over at Little Green Footballs, the lizardoid army is reporting that the Obama administration is ‘going to seek a seat on the UN Human Rights Council, next to such exemplars of human rights as China, Saudi Arabia, and Cuba.’
Meanwhile, back in London the news of the G20 London protests and riots is still breaking. It seems there is a lot of twittering going on along with the protesting. It seems to be a sign of the times.
The Wall Street Journal has a rundown of the various groups protesting today. Just to make sure you know who is who and don’t get those silly rioters all confused. After all, an anarchist and a financial fool.

I find it amusing that the people who call for peace and love and let’ get along, are the ones that riot and protest.
The rest of us are busy working and can’t take off work (JOBS) to do that. Bit I thought that once Bush left we would be loved by the world and there would not be protest and riots. Hmm. Whats up with that?

I had to lay on the ground curled up around my 2 month old daughter to keep her from getting trampled by a stampede of idiots like the ones above after we had to get out the car from being stuck in the gridlock it caused. I ended up in the hospital with a concusion 12 stitches and 3 broken ribs.

Couple of things….
The G20 summit is actually tomorrow, not today. Also, they are not protesting against the US, nor is “hatred of the US a common thread.” The people are protesting because of the financial crisis that has taken hold of the world, and they are angry at the bankers who have received federal aid, yet they are paying out huge bonuses. It is anger at the financial industry, not the US. Others are protesting to try to bring awareness to environmental issues, to make sure that the plight of 3rd world countries is addressed during the summit, and yes, there is a sprinking of crazies, anarchists, and hippies. I dont think any of them are protesting against the US….that just doesnt make any sense.

Abby - I see your point, but most ppl associate Capitalism with America - therefore, if they are anti-Capitalist, they are anti-America. Its a system on which we have built the most powerful nation in the world. Its also a system that when gone unchecked in any way, leads to greed. Its a double edged sword, but the best system we have for encouraging entrepreneurship and opportunity.
I know people want to think there’s a massive world group hug now that The Obama is in office - but not only is he not going to pay everyone’s mortgage, he’s also not going to ‘understand’ our enemies to the point that they won’t want to defeat us anymore. He’s naive to the point of being embarrassing.
BTW - did you notice Gordon Brown slobbering and swooning at every utterance out of The Obama’s mouth? It was nauseating. Obama, of course, just droned on and on with his telling of yarns, like he does, and Brown acted as though it was utterly fascinating while everyone else’s eyes were glazing over.

Its the left that are the perpetual victims. I’m not feeling victimized by the protests in London - I’m not there and its nothing more than a bunch of spoiled rich kids who obviously don’t have anything better to do. Did you notice that the absurd Russell Brand had a bandanna around his face, but made sure he got plenty of pictures taken and talked to the press while he was being ‘oh so bold’ out there in a crowd of his peers. If he really was bold, he’d pick up a rifle, join the Army and defend his country against REAL enemies rather than a bunch of pink fingered accountants. How much courage does THAT take?
And Anita - 1 million plus people in Iraq? Your numbers are ridiculous and saying that doesn’t make it so. As a Brit - you haven’t had to worry too much about it as your Soldiers maintained security in the safest areas of Iraq and Afghanistan. Thanks a lot. But don’t worry, when the going gets tough and you need our help - we’ll do it again. We always have and SOMEONE in the world needs to have enough testosterone to keep the wolves at bay. Go back to your tea and let the real men in America protect not only the US but freakin’ Europe who apparently no longer has the ability or the will to protect herself.

You are just amazing. We went into Iraq for the oil and 1 million people were killed. Do you believe in the tooth fairy and Santa Claus too. You sound like most liberals. You just repeat a lie and yet never check the facts.
If we wanted the oil in the Middle East, it would take us about a week to take it. That is because they won’t fight for it. They have been dumbed down and are so dependent on the state for a living, they don’t have the will to fight.
But since the U S only gets about 2% of our oil from the Middle East, I can understand how you think it is all about oil. I mean 2% is wow so much.
As for the million people we killed, you are not a math major are you? I would wager to say you are not a history major either.
