The supreme leader of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has dismissed President Barack Obama’s attempt at “video diplomacy”. Big surprise, I’m shocked. Read more, see photos and video below.
The Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s reaction to a video message by Barack Obama is the first from any high ranking leadership in Iran. President Obama had sent a message via video to Iran seeking to “start again”. If only it were that simple, Mr. President.
Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has the final say on any major policy decisions in Iran, and would have the final decision as to whether there will be any type of change in the relationship between the United States and Iran. For all of his bloviating, Ahmandinejad still has to answer to Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Khamenei says there will be no change in policy between the two countries unless he sees an end to our “hostility” towards his country. Only in a liberal dreamworld; why did Obama even bother? He also says he wants to see “real change” in foreign policy; translation, pull out of Iraq and Afghanistan and leave them to the mercy of Islamic terrorists. From the guardian:
“They chant the slogan of change but no change is seen in practice,” Khamenei said in his speech, broadcast live on state television. “We haven’t seen any change.”
The Obama administration says that its original intention of making this video plea, was to go straight to the Iranian people; and that perhaps would eventually make its way into the dialogue between the two countries. Will that work? I don’t know. But Obama has found a brick wall with the Ayatollah Ali Khamenei; along with Ahmandinejad who have no interest in “talking” with the United States, no matter who the President is. Something liberals never seem to understand.

Obama is as naive as anyone should expect of a dashing young man. So give him a break. Nobody elected Obama to accomplish anything.

Could he possibly make us appear any weaker? Now he’s given them the power to decide whether there is any hope and change in our relationship with them.

this doesn’t sound like a brick wall to me…

This is just pathetic.
Radicals everywhere are rolling on the floor laughing their **ckin a$$es off and drooling right now.

This makes them look bad, and not us. It also demonstrates who the true leaders in Iran are, for all the world to see, instead of that idiot shill–I don’t know how to spell his name, and I don’t feel like looking it up.
Offering to talk does not equal weakness, unless you are Barack Obama, apparently. Remember that Kissinger said the same thing last year, but then reversed himself when the pressure was put on by the RNC during the campaign. You want Obama to fail. If one of your own said “let’s talk,” you’d have no problem with it.

The incredible Brigitte Gabriel was interviewed about Obama’s “message” yesterday. Among other things, she said that Obama looked weak – said something similar to “a sissy-boy” but I’m paraphrasing – can’t remember the actual words. She said the entire Arab world would view this with disdain. Calm, measured reasoning is not looked upon as anything other than a character fault.

I don’t think being in a p”"”"”g contest with Iran will work, nor will concilliation. They are prideful and the revolutionary gaurds are in their 50’s and ruling the place in collusion with the Clericy and they each need each other and shite islam just as they need the US as its “mortal” propaganda enemy to make it work. Also there are a lot of hard feelings going back to the instillation of the Shah regieme and the US backing of that, the Savak police, etc. Now we are dealing in manyways with an inbred regieme that doesn’t take in new blood or information. They are determined to develop a nuclear weapons program period and maintain the keys to it with their inbred regieme. They see it as their ticket to immortal power regardless to what changes take place in the rest of the iranian population, half of which isn’t even persian. They are rationally irrational and happy about it.

“Offering to talk does not equal weakness,”
In the face of radical Islamists IT DOES !!!!!
Remember that Kissinger said the same thing
“You want Obama to fail. If one of your own said “let’s talk,” you’d have no problem with it.”
If Obama fails in this dept people die, we dont want him failing in this dept.
That was just stupid.
We wouldnt have any problem with it because our guys wouldnt put themselves in the stupid position Obama just put himself in, the language would be different, trust me.

There was nothing stupid about trying something new. Iran needs to put up or shut up. Let the world see for itself.

One negotiates from a position of strength. Then and only then can both parties give something and come to an accord. If we,(clown-in-chief) is perceived to be weak the negotiations aren’t going to go well.

“There was nothing stupid about trying something new.”
Theres nothing new about trying to talk to Iran.
Carter failed, Reagan proved that they can be motivated without words.

If the US Navy parked three carrier battle groups in the Persian Gulf, flew several wings of B-52’s to Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean and then asked for a sit-down with the Ayatollah and if the Israli’s mobilized their air force as well I think he would be able to come to some real understanding with the Iranian’s and some real progress could made.

the logistical costs of that would probably be 40 billion dollars just to park them there for two months before even the first plane dropped anything. It would take a sustained bombing campaign to degrade the Iranian nuclear and defensive structure, though we could sink their blue water navy ships in a day. A full campaign against Iran would probably run 60 billion or so for several weeks, and then what? In an actual nuclear exchange we could hit several key sites and completely destroy them for a few tens of millions of dollars and really get the point across. But then what? The best case would be for ahhmaddinajad to be voted out this summer and a new government get in at the same time the clericy gets moved to the side a bit by a populist movement within the country. That would buy us time till possibly real change comes to iran for economic reasons. Realistically is it worth going to war at such a high financial and resource cost to prevent them from getting a few primative nukes that would be hard to deliver? As well as cementing their governments argument we are the evil ones? I can’t imagine them attacking Israel or giving nukes to hezbollah as they know everybody has the return address. I don’t think they are suicidal,,,,, grandiose and arrogant yes. Is this the idiocy of man? just build weapons and fight, and do it over and over again? Do we want to play that tune too?

“But then what? The best case would be for ahhmaddinajad to be voted out this summer and a new government get in at the same time the clericy gets moved to the side a bit by a populist movement within the country.”
Ahmajinedad is no one, just a mouthpiece that reflects what the Ayatollas are thinking, thats all.
You think the clerics are going to allow anything but a theological choice on the ballot ?
You’re nuts.
“I don’t think they are suicidal”
You dont think.
Yes they are, read a book.
They are a suicidal/genocidal regime.
Think of the costs if we do nothing.
You sound like my neighbor, always making excuses not to do things.

for the record half of iranians are not persians, but other ethnic backgrounds that are not even shite. More than half are youngsters. The revolutionary gaurd remants siezed power with the collusion of the clericy and are only a small fraction of the total population. They are worried about maintaining their grip on power so orchestrate a police state not so different from some old style soviet practices. Well look at iraq and afghanistan, we burned up a lot of their dna and shuffled a lot of it around and look what its gotten us? Not a nice art project you could bring home to your parents that showed you learned anything worthwhile while at summer camp. I separate the iranian regieme from the iranian people to a fair degree, but make no mistake the persian half is pretty loyal to some iranian principles even if not the leaders. This time I am not going to let myself be talked into war by neocons or whatever you want to call them. Only practicons make sense in this new era, so lets see what they have yet to say.

Bomb their nuclear facilities to rubble and chalk it up to (like the bumper sticker) “Shite Happens”.
