Like millions of Americans across the country, Barack Obama has filled out his NCAA tournament brackets. As reported by Andy Katz on ESPN, his Final Four is Louisville, Pitt, North Carolina and Memphis.
He picks North Carolina to defeat Louisville in the championship game. You can see Obama’s full bracket entry here.
There are very few upsets in the bracket, with the notable exception of VCU over UCLA. Other than that, he seems to have played it very safe. North Carolina is the favorite to win the championship this year, though the favorite often falls to an underdog in the single-elimination NCAA tournament.
Barack Obama is a big basketball fan. He played at varsity level in high school in Hawaii, and often took time out during his campaign for pick-up games. I guess Obama’s emphasis on basketball is a “change” from previous administrations. George W. Bush was a baseball fan, and part-owner of the Texas Rangers. His father, George H.W. Bush, was an All-American baseball player at Yale.
Bill Clinton was certainly no athlete. He participated in track at Georgetown, but he admits that was only so he could pass the sports requirement for the Rhodes Scholarship. Ronald Reagan and Gerald Ford played the most American of all the sports in their youth, football.
This site is very critical of Barack Obama in nearly everything he does, but I have to admit, that I have the same Final Four as he does. And the same championship game participants, and champion.
We were bound to agree at some point.

Hey Ignatius, how about instead of writing about entertainment news, you take ownership of a story with more gravity that you got dead wrong:

Hey Rob L, please see my comment on that thread, in which I completely disprove your pathetic attempt at a “gotcha.” Sad, really.
March 18th, 2009 at 11:26 am
Yeah Ignatius has a habit of doing that. There were 200+ replies to the thread a few weeks ago about marijuana legalization, and Ignatius failed to reply to dozens of valid points that were brought up in response to his article. The same is true of the NAACP housing lawsuit he wrote about more recently, though on a smaller scale.
Confederacy of Dunces was a great book, but I think this Ignatius Reilly is a little more similar to the fictional character than he should be.

Rhayader, get a life. I don’t have time to respond to each comment, as I have a life. As for the NAACP case, you were right, if, in fact, similarly situated African Americans were treated the same manner as Caucasians. But, of course, that’s just an allegation from an organization that has zero credibility.

Thanks, that’s nice. I assume that by “get a life”, you mean stop reading your articles and interacting and bringing page views and advertising revenue to the site.
Also, you don’t need to respond to every comment to avoid deserting a thread of your own creation 10% into its lifespan.
March 18th, 2009 at 12:26 pm
Yes, Rhayader, get a life.
And Rob L, the market closed 13.5 points below 7500. That totally undermines the credibility of your comment. You are dead wrong and should take ownership of your mistake. If that sounds silly, it’s not half as silly as you.
And, yes, I am quite like the fictional character who shows complete disdain to those who disagree with me. That’s why I took the name.

I have a life with which I am quite happy. Thanks for the advice again though, it’s a wonderful way for a writer to address his audience.
Also, in addition to being stubbornly closed-minded like you said, Ignatius was a socially inept, clumsy, helpless, hypocritical, lazy loser who lived with his mom.
March 18th, 2009 at 12:41 pm
Don’t forget fat. He was also fat. And lived off the fruit of others’ labors.
I only admire his snark. The other qualities are the qualities of a liberal who lives off other people’s hard work.
March 18th, 2009 at 3:52 pm
So the NAACP has no credibility? what about the ACLU or GLAAD? What about the Christian Coalition, the Catholic League,PETA or NOW? Are you just attacking the NAACP or all activist groups?
March 19th, 2009 at 7:37 am
Ignatius, all you’ve proven is that you are unwilling to concede when you are wrong. Probably no one saw such a dramatic rebound coming so quickly, so it would not be the end of the world to concede that point. It goes without saying that there could be a bad week in the near term, but a rebound was pretty much inevitable no matter who is President.
March 19th, 2009 at 8:12 am
Rob L, I’m unwilling to concede a point in which you are lying. On the other thread you’ll see the lie that I point out, which is the basis of your argument, and completely undermines everything you state. And you’re off-topic. I was being generous in letting this go, but site policy will force me to ban you if you continue to go on unrelated tirades in posts.
