The National Republican Senatorial Committee today released a St. Patrick’s Day Ad attacking Connecticut Senator Chris Dodd. The advertisement, entitled the “The Luck o’ the Dodd,” puts Christopher Dodd’s head on a leprechaun and mocks Dodd for, among other things, purchasing a country home in Ireland and planning on moving his family to Iowa.

Rob Simmons: Chris Dodd’s 2010 Opponent

The ad has been released on the internet and is intended to weaken Dodd, who’s Connecticut Senate seat will be up for re-election in 2010. Republican Rob Simmons has already announced that he will be running against Dodd in 2010.

Chris Dodd’s approval rating has plummeted in the past few months, dropping to a pitiful 41% according to the National Review. As reported by Hot Air, Chris Dodd is under attack from his constituents for, among other things, receiving sweetheart mortgages from Countrywide as part of the troubled institution’s VIP program. As reported by Salon, many voters believe that Chris Dodd, who later became head of the Senate Banking Committee, failed to properly perform his Committee oversight duties partly because of the influence of the favorable mortgages he received in 2003. Countrywide is one of the institutions being blamed for the subprime mortgage crisis.

Rob Simmons announced his candidacy for Dodd’s Senate last month. Simmons was a member of the House of Representatives from 2001 to 2007.

There is one way to make Dodd pay for the neglect of his duties: Vote for Simmons in 2010.
