Congressman Jim Clyburn of South Carolina, also the House majority whip, says that not taking the federal money from the stimulus package is a slap in the face to African Americans. Read more photos and videos below.
Jim Clyburn put a provision in the $787 billion dollar stimulus package, that state legislatures could accept the money even if their governors chose not to. That is exactly what the governors of Texas, Mississippi, Louisiana and South Carolina said they wouldn’t do.
All four governors are from the GOP and had opposed the bailout from the beginning. Texas governor Rick Perry has said that he would accept the money now that nothing could be done about it.
Clyburn, says that a governor not taking the federal funds is “the most ridiculous thing he’s ever heard; almost as ridiculous as ACORN receiving $4.5 billion to “stimulate the economy. The governors in question are Mark Sanford from SC, Bobby Jindal of LA, and Haley Barbour from MS.
Clyburn says that these four governors represent states that are in the “black belt. I didn’t even know we had a “black belt. Congressman Clyburn stated that he was just trying to protect black Americans by putting in the provision allowing state legislatures to accept the money. From CNN:
“These four governors represent states that are in the black belt. I was insulted by that, he said. “All of this was a slap in the face of African-Americans. It had nothing to do with Governor Sanford.
Despite opposing the stimulus from the start, Rick Perry of Texas has decided to accept the money. Mark Sanford is still on the fence but is leaning towards accepting the money, now that the bill has been passed and the legislature would likely accept anyway. A spokesman for Sanford said:
“Representative Clyburn is no stranger to playing the race card, because he has no defense for the runaway spending and the deficits contained in this so-called stimulus bill that will hurt our economy,â€? he said. “Spending money at the federal level that we do not have represents a future tax increase on all South Carolinians, regardless of their color — and in the process of doing so, he’s ripping off everyone he claims to represent.â€?
No word yet on whether Jindal or Barbour will accept the Obama stimulus money; but with the pressure they will receive from civil rights groups and others in their respective state legislatures I will not be surprised to see them take the federal funds as well.

Well if I was Bobby Jindal or Mark Sandford I would take the money, but only give it in tax breaks. Simple because while other states will be in pain because the money did nothing to stimulate the economy. There states could be prosperous by using the money to give one of the largest tax breaks america has ever seen from a governor.

Also the biggest reason they should accept the money is they don’t want to risk not getting reelected. Simple because Barbour, Jindal and Sandford right now are in a good spot for 2012.

O.K., So weve got 4 Governors out of 50 who for one reson or another dont want this money.
What do you think the odds are that the other 46 will pi$$ this money away doing nothing for the economy ?
And so it begins, we will now start to see how once this money gets in their hands it will dispersed, chipped away at, diverted for ulterior purposes until the fed realizes they made the same mistake they did with the first half of the TARP where it never reached its intended purpose.
They knew this, it was no accident, thats why were already hearing about the second stimulus being on the drawing board.
Really, think about it.
The only liberals that are objecting to the stimulus are the ones objecting to its present form who say its not enough.
And the pilaging begins on the front page of the AOL news.
Check it out, the media and the people who caused this whole problem from the beggining are already giving instruction how to scam some stimulus for yourself.
I turned on my puter this morning and heres what I saw on the front page of the AOL news.
“Your 12,000.00 stimulus check” The US Govt. is giving away billions, go get your share.
I clicked on that embeded link and it took me here.

Figures, go read the story, Mary is a victim of an ARM that jumped a few months back, now were all paying her mortgage.
Mary;
“My husband’s income has not been able to keep us afloat as our 3 year adjustable rate mortgage recently expired in August of 08 and our new monthly payments have increased by 30%. Our credit card bills have been suffocating us financially, and if it wasn’t for this financial aid from the US Government, we might have foreclosed on our home.
In 30 days I was able to get a $12,000 check from the US Govt which I never have to pay back. All I had to do was fill out 1 form online for a Grant Kit”
Sorry Shannon, I’m not trying to hijack your thread, I just couldnt keep this inside me.

Wow - this race card is getting a bit old. My attitude is that if you use the race card, especially in political decisions such as this, then it is you who are a racist. Congressman - YOU ARE A RAC**ST! How non-blacks of S.C. can sit there an not say anything over this is a shame and a further tell-tale sign of the destruction of tis nation with this BS pc attitude by African-Americans such as this jackass obviously getting over their whole life by using this technique!

Jim Clyburn is the poster boy for what is wrong with our country’s elected leaders. South Carolina please vote this idiot out of office. He is no fit to sit in the congress.
So now I am a RACIS* because I believe that the economy should be left alone and allowed to correct itself. And because spending money to fix the problem of spending too much money in the first place.

I just wish they could stop using the term “government funds” or “grant money” acting like the government has a huge savings account and is willing to give them some of it.
I think more people would think twice about taking funds if it was always called “your tax dollars” or “money from future taxes”.
I think it may cause people to be at a minimum a little more embarrased by needing to take “money from their neighbor” to pay for a legally binding contract that they signed (mortgage).

Now I have quick question for this guy. Bobby Jindal an Indian man just turned down part of the stimulus. Which I 110% support him doing that because it would of seriously damaged his state if he took the money. So the real question is if Jindal is Indian does that make him a rac**st.
February 21st, 2009 at 5:23 am
Well now I 100% support Bobby Jindal for president in 2012. He is a very smart man he turned down part of the stimulus bill and this part would of hurt his state. He will not accept the money to raise the amount of welfare people get in his state. Which would of hurt his state in three years because when the moneys gone he’ll still have to pay for this increase which will raise his state’s deficit. That is one of the smartest things I’ve ever heard. Now currently Huckabee leads in polls for 2012 than Palin so give this sometime and they’ll support Jindal.

Yea George, it just makes you want to run up to the guy and slap the sh*t out of him.
Ya know, we got enough problems without you stirring up this crap again.
Charles, lets not start campaigning this soon, please.

The few years, anytime we disagree with Obama policy, we will be called names.
They can’t debate without name calling because they only have one idea. Take your money and give it to people who won’t go to school, won’t work and keep asking for more.

The writer of this post, Shannon Bell, is either the laziest, dumbest or most misleading person I have encountered on the web. …maybe a combination of all three.
Hey Shannon …ever heard of fact checking? The budget provides $4.5 billion for Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) Community Development Block Grant Program. It does not provide $4.5 billion to ACORN. Yes, HUD funds groups like ACORN, but ACRON will only see a small fraction of the money.
I am sure I could find more problems with Shannon’s posts, but who has the time!?
For the record—because Shannon has altered other posts to correct her lazy and misleading reporting—I am including a quote from Shannon’s original post:
“All four governors are from the GOP and had opposed the bailout from the beginning. Texas governor Rick Perry has said that he would accept the money now that nothing could be done about it.
Clyburn, says that a governor not taking the federal funds is “the most ridiculous thing he’s ever heard?; almost as ridiculous as ACORN receiving $4.5 billion to “stimulate? the economy. The governors in question are Mark Sanford from SC, Bobby Jindal of LA, and Haley Barbour from MS.”
The odd characters in the post are not my errors, btw. Shannon just doesn’t know how to use quote marks. Hey Shannon, just hit the shift key and then the key with the apostrophe. Quotation marks are important, Shannon. They show attribution, which is something you obviously do not care about since you just make up the facts as you go along, but try anyway.

David, there is nothing factually inacurate about this post. I can’t help it if you drink the Obama kool-aid and believe everything the administration and this government want you to.
But thanks for the tips on how to use punctuation, I mean I really didn’t know how to go about my next post without your wonderful nit picking tips.
And by the way, I don’t “alter” posts, I “corrected” a post which you happen to point out. The fact that I did correct an error in one post, proves that I am not trying to mislead in anyway. But, I wouldn’t expect a JACKASS like you to admit that.
