Nadya Suleman is the Mom of octuplets, eight babies – plus six other children, including two-year-old twins. That makes fourteen kids for this 33 year old mother. Photo and Today Show video below.

Ms Suleman used the sperm of an “admirer,” David Soloman, to conceive her first six children. Doctors then used the left-over embryos for the fertility treatments that resulted in the birth of the octuplets.

Assuming Mr. Soloman is the father, Suelman says that he is the father of all fourteen children and she hopes he will be present in their lives. In the video below, the interviewer says that the father of the baby is “overwhelmed.”

State Mental Health documents totaling over 300 pages were released on February 5th, 2009 detailing years of depression and loneliness. Suleman is divorced and has been on disability for about six years, collecting more than $165,000 for an “on- the-job” back injury.

NBC’s Ann Curry interviewed Suleman for Monday, February 9th airing on the Today Show. Ms. Suleman allegedly told Curry that she had dysfunctional childhood:

That was always a dream of mine, to have a large family, a huge family,” she said. “I just longed for certain connections and attachments with another person that … I really lacked, I believe, growing up.

The State reports that:

…she had a happy childhood. She told them she was an above-average high school student, enjoyed being a cheerleader, had many friends and stayed out of trouble. She said her parents were loving and supportive.

Her “loving and supportive” mother says Nadya did not like being an only child:

She always blamed me for only having her,” Angela Suleman, a retired teacher-turned-grandma of 14, told Us magazine.

Ms. Suleman’s mother said that when Nadya’s marriage did not work out, she “rejected other suitors,” and “used the donated sperm of one of her admirers, David Soloman,” to conceive her first six children.” Grandma says she was brought up in the “traditional way:” “I firmly believe in marriage.”

The octuplet’s Grandma lives with her daughter, but it’s reported here that she isn’t interested in living with her daughter after the babies come home:

I’m going to be gone before the new brood comes home from the hospital.

So what does Nadya’s father, Edward, have to say about the miracle birth of eight babies?

I wish it happens to you people, so you go through hell,” he snapped at the media throng as he unloaded bags of shopping from his car.

Grandpa is considering returning to his native Iraq where he believes he can make enough money to provide for his daughter’s fourteen children. Now that’s a switch. Leave America for Iraq…to provide for your family?

Nadya has hired a public relations expert to handle the TV, and book offers coming in for the octuplets Mom.

Public sentiment for Ms. Suleman’s intentional conception of multiple babies has not brought the usual flood of gifts from makers of baby food, diapers, and toys, which ultimately garners publicity for the manufacturer. Instead, they are staying away from the controversial births, which in many minds are seen as irresponsible, and possible harmful to all fourteen children. So far, no new mini-van, no new house, no guaranteed college tuition.

Suleman says she has never been on welfare and does not plan to accept welfare now. With the help of her family, friends and church, she believes she can provide for all of her children until she finishes school. According to the video below, she is pursuing her Masters in Counseling.

Born on January 26th, the two girls and six boys weighed between 1 pound, eight ounces and 3 pounds, 4 ounces. They will stay hospitalized for about a month. This is the second set of octuplets born in the United States, and to- date, the longest living octuplets.

In the following video, Suleman shows the frustration at the criticisms leveled at her:

I’m providing myself to my children, I’m loving them unconditionally, and accepting them unconditionally. I’ll stop my life for them, and be present with them, and hold them, and be with them.”

Ms. Suleman and her family expected seven babies. Now there’s one more. What’s all the fuss about?
