It has been reported today that moderate republican J. Bonnie Newman will be named as New Hampshire Senator to replace Judd Gregg who has taken the Commerce Secretary post in the Obama cabinet. Read her biography below, photos and videos.
Bonnie Newman is reportedly being named by democratic Governor John Lynch to the U.S. Senate to replace Judd Gregg, who is being named to President Obama’s cabinet as secretary of Commerce.
The official announcement has been set for 4:30 p.m. eastern this afternoon. There has been much speculation about this seat ever since President Obama nominated Senator Gregg for a cabinet post. One can only imagine the pressure that has been brought to bare on governor Lynch from both sides of the aisle.
Had Lynch picked a democrat to fill the seat being vacated by Gregg, and with the democrats already holding 56 seats with 2 independents that caucus with them, along with the undetermined Minnesota seat where Al Franken currently leads; the dems would have a 60 vote super-majority.
The deal which Newman apparantly agreed to, was that she would continue to caucus with the republicans, and that she would not run for the seat in 2010.
Jane Ellen “Bonnie” Newman was born in Lawrence, Massachusetts on June 2, 1945 so her age is 63.
Bonnie received her B.A. degree in sociology from St. Joseph’s College and her M.Ed. degree in higher education administration from The Pennsylvania State University. She has honorary degrees from Rivier College, Notre Dame College, Keene State College, St. Joseph’s College, and New Hampshire College.
She has a long resume in the private and public sectors. She served as assistant secretary of commerce in the Reagan Administration. She also served as an administrator in the first president Bush’s administration. Ms. Newman served as chief of staff for Judd Gregg when he was a member of the U.S. House of Representatives. One of her most notable positions came when she held the title of interim president of the university of New Hampshire.
Bonnie Newman has been described as tough, independent and smart by longtime associates excited that she is to become the next U.S. senator from New Hampshire.
She is a resident of North Hampton, New Hampshire.

What if she changes her mind in 2010?

What a shame. This is a supposed ‘republican’ who openly supported our reprobate Democrat governor and also supported Obama for president.
So, she can’t be considered a republican at all.

What if she decides in 2010 that she is a Democrat and now wants to run.
Why can’t the north East find real conservatives to run for office? Just wondering.
