There is another tax evader in the proposed Obama administration. The President appointed Nancy Killefer as head of the newly created position of Chief Performance Officer, a position that was never really well-defined but is intended to keep watch over government performance.

Now, Killefer admits to tax evasion and has withdrawn her January 7th nomination.

Immediately after the nomination, the AP reported a $946.69 tax lien on her home for failure to pay unemployment on household help. At one time, it seems she paid the taxes, but then three years after leaving a “high-powered” Treasury post she “began to fail to pay.” She also failed to make quarterly payments for one and half years. That’s when the lien was placed on her home.

She resolved the lien about five months after the filing.

Since the AP report, the Obama administration has refused to answer questions about Killifer’s tax evasion.

Killefer’s husband is an economics professor. Killefer was an assistant Treasury secretary for management in the Clinton administration. In this position, according to the AP, she was the chief financial officer and chief operating officer for the Treasury, overseeing the modernization of the IRS.

Killefer joins the ranks of other prestigious Obama nominations who have disregarded the need to pay their taxes: Timothy Geithner confirmed as Secretary of the Treasury made it through a limp confirmation investigation. Former Senator Tom Daschle is now defending against years of perks and tax evasion for those perks. It is believed that he will be confirmed.

Ms. Killefer isn’t one of the good old boys. Do you think she was encouraged to resign her appointment?
