Democrats in Congress have launched an online petition entitled “Stand Strong Against Rush Limbaugh.”
As we reported here, Rush Limbaugh and Barack Obama have been feuding over the President’s liberal agenda. Limbaugh stated on his radio show earlier this week that he wished that the President’s Socialist policies would fail over the next four years, so that America can return to a conservative agenda.
In response to this feud, Congressional Democrats have decided to start a petition. As first reported in the Drudge Report, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee has launched an online petition where any liberal can express his/her disgust with Mr. Limbaugh. The link to the petition is here.
The Democratic Congressional Committee is the official campaign arm of the Democrats in the House of Representatives. According to its website, the DCCC’s principal mission is to help Democratic House candidates get elected. The head of the DCCC is Representative Chris Van Hollen of Maryland. More information is available on the DCCC website here.
According to the petition, liberals need to express their disgust at Rush Limbaugh for exercising his freedom of speech. To quote the DCCC:
Limbaugh’s cheap shot at President Obama might be the first by the Republican attack machine this year but we know that it won’t be the last. We need every grassroots Democrat to show Rush Limbaugh and all of the Republicans what they’re up against if they start attacking President Obama and Democrats who are working to end the failed GOP policies of the last eight years.
Really? Are Democrats going to start a sad little petition every time someone high-profile criticizes our sitting President? Is criticizing liberals anathema just because we are in an economic downturn?
Frankly, this is just a waste of everyone’s time. I’m sure Limbaugh will laugh this off on his show and ignore the millions of posts that this petition will generate. I got about 15 posts into the petition before I realized that there was not a single useful thought expressed on the site, so I moved on.
Here is what Limbaugh said, that has liberal panties in a bunch:

Thats funny.
Liberal talk radio fails because even liberals wont listen to it.
January 27th, 2009 at 6:17 pm
Now they are trying to stop free speech?
January 27th, 2009 at 6:19 pm
With the mounting job casualties, here’s hoping SCOTUS either finds someone, somewhere, has standing to require BHO’s birth certificate or fixes attention on a criminal indictment before he wins his War on Prosperity.

I think there’s more to this than Democrats are letting on. They’re possibly trying to get more support for introducing the Fairness Doctrine to talk radio.
January 27th, 2009 at 6:40 pm
It should be beneath the dignity of the president to attack a talk show host. Shame on you, Mr. Obama.

To think that a President of the U.S. would stand in front of the Congress and warn that they must stop listening to a radio talker is unbelievable. He doesn’t have a clue how extraordinarily silly he looked and sounded.
If only Congress had Rush’s steel spine. God bless him.
January 27th, 2009 at 8:15 pm
You know Ignatius, it’s just like the libs to take someone’s statement out of context and try to make something out of it. How many of these same people didn’t hope that President Bush’s policies failed? Can you say HYPOCRISY?
January 27th, 2009 at 8:38 pm
I think obama has a right to disagree with limbaugh publically if he wants to, as in my opinion, limbaugh isnt’ really doing the country a good deed to say the nonsense he says. I can see there are some soar loser right wing “moonbats” as you guyz call anyone who disagrees with you, on the loose and limbaugh fits right in. but I challenge you to enumerate a list of liberal things obama has done yet? Is allowing the states to set their own epa emission standards a lefty thing? Is pushing gitmo world to clean up its act and put a process in place of a disappear cage a liberal thing? I do think the stimulus package needs some work yet, but its attempting to have a mix of tax cuts and stimulus projects that still need some more work. For obama to engage with limbaugh is so different as bush just ignored his critics to all ends so you never got to see his logic. obama plays with a more open hand, bush a closed hand. He and paulson scared the heck out of everyone with the fear of imminent economic collapse, when in fact it may have not been like that at all. Now the unit of derivatives traders that sunk aig are getting 400 million dollars in taxpayer money for retention bonuses to keep the “talent”. If you want to be outraged, but outraged about that. That was on paulson’s and bush’s watch.
January 27th, 2009 at 8:48 pm
start a petition in favor of rush limbaugh
you would get more hits to your site
January 27th, 2009 at 9:04 pm
Please refer to post on other Rush article discussion.
In brief, Obama’s not stupid. Can we agree on that?
Is he naive? Maybe. In this case, this may be just the steep part of the learning curve. Remember, he’s only been in office for a week.
But if he’s not naive? And this is a calculated remark? What does it mean?
A full frontal assault on the hard right? A salvo in the battle to reinstate the fairness doctrine?
If he’s seriously trying to silence Rush and Hannity et al., he’s sure spending a lot of capital doing it.
What do you think?
January 27th, 2009 at 9:22 pm
Most people are afraid to criticize Obama because he is black. They try to show off how “unbiased” they are. The latch on to whatever “team” seems to be the trendy pick. They typically know little or nothing about the actual issues. They mimic the viewpoints of Obama without regard for anything but being able to align themselves with the cool guy. You people are weak cowards. This is why we as a country are the butt of so many jokes. Get a life and get your own damn opinions.
January 27th, 2009 at 9:23 pm
Its sad that rush and hannity get mentioned as some kind of equals to someone like obama who actually ran and won the Presidency of the United States. I see two blowharts on soapboxes with a lot of meanness in their message, and one want to do a great job new President who is coming from a completely different place. Is it raci$m? To some of you, yes you are. To some others, your in denial. And to the true right wing “moonbat” who is equal opportunity, good for you. Obama has a lot of class and true intelligence, a flexibility, and isn’t an angry fellow at the core like limbaugh and hannity. Would you really want limbaugh or hannity as your president? Think of the cabinet and staff people and media they would surround themselves with. It would be kind of bushy all over again but at a highschool level rather than at a frat.

Yah lets get rid of Limbaugh, but first lets get rid of. CNN, NBC, the view, and the lesbian herself Oprah. It’s what democrats do they can’t solve problems so they destroy anything that insults them.
January 28th, 2009 at 7:11 am
Brain,
As I said on the other post about Rush, you have never listened to Rush and therefore you don’t know what he says or stands for.
It is funny to me that the most power man in the world is concerned about talk radio host that disagree with him. Until we remove “Freedom of Speech” for the constitution, Rush, Sean and even you have a right to says pretty much what you want about Rush and the President.
If this is all the Democrats can do, they don’t need to be in power. We have real issues that this congress and president need to address.
My opinion is that Obama is not up to the task of the job and that most of the congress needs to be fired over the next few election cycles.
I hope Obama does not fail because I love this country more then I love a political party. But what I have seen so far, Obama is acting like a community organizer not the Leader of the free world.
Someone should start a petition to fire congress, both house and both parties and start over. We need to take our country back.
January 28th, 2009 at 7:13 am
Other.
I think Obama simply wants this package blown out and spent before anyone is that much the wiser as to where the money is going.
Notice that in the last week Obama has stressed how important it is that the package be authorized and distributed ASAP, urgent, right away, and all these other statements that ensue panick and haste.
Obama wants it out there before anyone has a chance to look at it closer and reject all the ridiculous pet projects the bill has been laced with and will do nothing to stimulate anything.
Asking people not to pay attention to Rush, asking for cooperation, bi-partisan approach, meeting only with republicans, blowing Geithner through even though hes a thief.
I think this whole mention of Rush is just a distractive measure to make us all think hes going to attack free speech and bring in the fairness doctrine while he pi$$es away the largest chunk of cash anyone has ever seen.
Dont take your eyes off the ball folks, everything else is irrelevant as long as we stand to see the biggest robbery in history ever.
January 28th, 2009 at 7:30 am
Other than the underlying ploys I suspect there’s also the deal on the surface that what Rush is saying is true and doesn’t help Obama one bit if he’s going to hustle the goods right past us before we realized what’s happened.
What Obama is doing is exactly the kind of massive govt. spending we saw in the 30’s that instead of ending the recession prolonged it and sent it right into a depression. Rush knows this, its a fact, he’s right, and Obama wants as few ears to get ahold of this as possible. But while were all focused on free speech, Obamas ego, fairness doctrines and such, were about to make any deficit of the Bush term look like a drop in the bucket.
Put together a country that may be as broke as its ever been along with foreign policies that are backasswards and I’m actually getting a little frightened here
January 28th, 2009 at 7:40 am
Rush is right. Democrats are socialists. Democrat success is America’s failure. that is the response I entered to their petition. Do you think they’ll honestly deliver that message?
January 28th, 2009 at 7:47 am
When you find yourself in a hole, STOP DIGGING.
January 28th, 2009 at 7:48 am
“but I challenge you to enumerate a list of liberal things obama has done yet?”
Are you serious ?
1)Is asking folks not to listen to conservative talk radio.
2)The cabinet he picked is dominated by liberals.
3)Signed order to close Gitmo.
4)Signed order to end coercive interogations.
5) Reversed Bush’s policy barring U.S. aid to international organizations which provide abortions or advise women on how to get them.
6)Appointment of Brian Bond, LGBT activist as Deputy Director of White House office of Public Liaison.
Besides that, he’s already been labeled my most on the hill as the most liberal senator anyone has ever seen, more to come.
As for the rest of your crap, its well…
crap.
January 28th, 2009 at 8:01 am
But Micky the Democrats have a mandate from the people.
I find it appalling that terrorist at Gitmo have more rights then unborn children.
January 28th, 2009 at 8:47 am
Rush is hurting the GOP. Say his audience is about 20 million, a liberal estimate. That’s still only about 8% of the voting population. Even if we assume that Limbaugh listeners vote in higher numbers, we’ll give his audience 12% of the voting population. And I would guess that a reasonable percentage of that are people, like me, who listen for entertainment value and to see what the wingnut right is up to.
A plurality of the country thinks you wingnuts are nuts. You can stick to your values, listen to Rush, and not support moderate GOP candidates. But Dems will win and push the entire GOP into obscurity.
And you think Rush cares? He makes $35 million a year. No wonder he wants tax cuts.
January 28th, 2009 at 8:58 am
Left,
How long have you been talking out of your butt?
January 28th, 2009 at 9:05 am
Years. But what exactly do you dispute?
January 28th, 2009 at 9:20 am
You like most liberal have never listened to Rush long enough to know what he says and what he believes and stands for. You hear the name and start barking like Pavlov’s dogs.
He is a conservative with conservative views and he is listen to by millions because we are sick and tire of only hearing what the left thinks on ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, MSNBC, and even Fox from time to time.
60 Minutes did a story Sunday about how Israel did things to provoke Gaza, but never offered to let Israel respond. It was only about Humas and the Gaza and how Israel picks fights.
The GOP is hurting itself because there are no real leaders with a set of co jones to stand up and say no. We need some people in the GOP with a large set and a spine. But I think most have retired or are just acting like Republicans but deep down are liberals.
January 28th, 2009 at 9:41 am
“You like most liberal have never listened to Rush long enough to know what he says and what he believes and stands for. You hear the name and start barking like Pavlov’s dogs.”
I disagree. I listen a couple times a week, whenever I can, really, and have been for, probably about 10 years. I don’t hate him. I appreciate a different point of view and think he’s brilliant as a radio personality and about as entertaining as a monologist can be.
“He is a conservative with conservative views and he is listen to by millions because we are sick and tire of only hearing what the left thinks on ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, MSNBC, and even Fox from time to time.”
I agree. My only point was that he also has listeners like me who take what he says with a grain of salt.
“60 Minutes did a story Sunday about how Israel did things to provoke Gaza, but never offered to let Israel respond. It was only about Humas and the Gaza and how Israel picks fights.”
Okay?
“The GOP is hurting itself because there are no real leaders with a set of co jones to stand up and say no. We need some people in the GOP with a large set and a spine. But I think most have retired or are just acting like Republicans but deep down are liberals.”
That’s your opinion. My opinion is that there is a reason that very few elected officials still publicly support Rush. In most districts, it’s difficult to win with an omnibus far-right platform, regardless of the size of their ’set’.
January 28th, 2009 at 10:01 am
Pavlov’s dogs didn’t bark. Also.
January 28th, 2009 at 10:02 am
Listen, I take what every pundit and politicians says with a grain of salt. All politicians really care about is getting elected and reelected. They will tell you whatever you want to hear.
If you have listened to Rush for 10 years and are still a lefty, then you good for you.
It is not difficult to win with a right agenda. But if you are on the right but run like you are on the left, why not just vote for the one on the left. As I said we need the GOP to be the GOP not the DNC-Lite.
It looks like they are trying to stand up against the so called stimulus package, which is full for bull and pork, but we will see if they do or if they backdown.
January 28th, 2009 at 10:20 am
I know, they drooled like Obama supporters.
January 28th, 2009 at 10:50 am
Hey George.
They even get McDonalds Happy meals sometimes.
January 28th, 2009 at 11:15 am
Obamas Picture will be forever on food stamps.
This stimulus package is full of Happy Meals. The Dems are not okay with spending money on a war, but are okay with giving 50 mill to endowment for the arts, 335 mill to teach teenagers about STD’s. It is full of bull and pork. Obama thinks he is Lincoln, FDR and Kennedy all in one.
Why has no one on the left called him on his statement that “government is the answer” to this recession. They need to spend money but we need to pay more taxes? He is back pedaling on the tax cuts for 95% of people that pay taxes. That would be the top 1% and anyone that has a job that has with holding taken out.
Did he or did he not run on tax custs?
January 28th, 2009 at 12:48 pm
Only for the ones that dont pay taxes.
