On the campaign trail, Barack Obama promised pro-abortionists he would sign the Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA) should Congress pass the legislation (see video below).
According to FOX News:
The act is designed to eliminate the “threats that remain” to Roe v. Wade, the landmark 1973 Supreme Court abortion rights decision that prompted the annual March for Life. Those threats include possible reversal of the decision and “legislative or administrative policies that make abortion more difficult and dangerous to obtain.”
From the proponents side, FOCA is seen as a protector of women’s health, both mental and physical. It enhances quality of life by relieving the burden of a unwanted child and will decrease the number of abortions needed through planned parenthood.
The former President of Catholics for Choice in Washington D.C. says FOCA will ensure women of ages, and particularly poor women that “political whims” will be taken off the table once FOCA becomes law.
Speaker of the House and Catholic, Nancy Pelosi, doesn’t let the matter of a child living or a child dying cloud the issue. She says the “doctors of the church” haven’t yet decided when life begins.
From the opponents side, FOCA is first seen as murder, and second as an abuse of a parent’s right to participate in their own child’s pregnancy.
Both pro-abortionists and anti-abortionists say their supporters are energized by Obama’s willingness to enact FOCA.
From the opponents viewpoint, finding something to be enthused about must be difficult.
With the issue becoming an imminent threat, FOCA will motivate anti-abortionists and conservative religious organizations to get activists on the telephone to Congress, but the reality is … the path for the President to bring FOCA to his base is unobstructed. A a heavy-handed Democrat legislative body stand ready, willing, and able to beat back any notions of morality.
Not to be discouraged, however, Noreen Hobson, President of the Right to Life Organization, definitely sees the glass at least half-full. She reminds us that in Obama’s inaugural speech he acknowledges “the God-given promise that all are equal, all are free and all deserve a chance to pursue their full measure of happiness.”
There is good news: “FOCA does restrict abortions after the fetus is viable, or can live outside of the woman, which is approximately 24 weeks into the pregnancy ….” This is no small blessing.

why do you guys want to chain down women’s bodies to make more of your babies? its sick to me. Do you even think that a lot of the bipeds walking around today are even human? msny are mere souless apparatchuks of the machine since they wandered out of the forest. P-l-e-a-s-e! God, using nature, has chosen to provide women with some freedoms, one being their body’s use by themselves. They will have to decide for themselves. That’s natures way. Remember, nature is like the delivery driver for God! Its not there if “he” doesn’t want it. And your the same ‘people’ that will imprison those who go their own way and execute those that really upset your apple cart. The american death sentence in our prisons is preplanned murder. I don’t think single gals out on a date are preplanning anything of the sort. Note the difference!! That is like saying an angry ice cream man is a nat-zi. so my hyper-boyle!

Brian, You are saying that people should have more sympathy for a murderer on death row than an unborn baby.
I’ve never understood how the left can protest and scream at the tops of their voices about the ‘rights’ of some of the most despicable criminals on earth. At the same time, they don’t think twice about ending the life of an unborn child. The very definition of innocence.
January 25th, 2009 at 6:52 pm
btw Brian – women’s bodies aren’t ‘chained down’. There are ways to prevent pregnancies. I know that there isn’t a fool proof form of birth control. But I also have known ppl who use abortion as their form of birth control and that is unacceptable.
January 25th, 2009 at 7:13 pm
I am saying death penalty’ing murderers in prison is bad for the people who order and carry out the sentence as well as those participating in the viewing booth. I am not approaching it as a murderers rights issue, but the right of “pure” to not be tricked into commiting murder for the public good. Of course abortion as birth control sounds like a horrible choice, but if its your body, your beard, you should be at the top of the decision making chain. There are a lot of troubling people out of there, but I refuse to be manipulated by them or society into committing bad biblical crimes against them.
January 25th, 2009 at 7:44 pm
I see, Brian, that although you are an intelligent person, you are willing to commit intellectual suicide when the issue at hand is something you identify with the Bible. In this case, defending the right to live of a murderer because killing him can hurt the executioner’s feelings, while choosing to kill the baby who is innocent of any wrongdoing, besides being alive. How would you feel if I said somebody should practice a retroactive abortion with you? Not so happy, I guess…
January 25th, 2009 at 7:56 pm
actually the ten commandments read well and have served us humans well for such a long time. They aren’t some invention of our “republican” democracy, so a review is worth merit. If you were a woman and chose to birth your baby great. If you chose abortion that would be something you chose that is troubling to some others so not so great. But I cannot put chains on a woman under penalty of law. Obviously we should educate people about prevention but if they are high on crack and chose to procreate are we going to pull them apart, even when we don’t know what they are up to, cept for our microphones and video surveillance?? One thing is for sure, I have never said “I am intelligent” on this series of exceallant blogs, so I think your just being sarcastic as thats the suit you like to wear. And congrats, you are mean too. Whoopie! You totally made my case, there is a meanness in the right to life crowd that is absolutely noteable and mixes well with your need to control others.
January 25th, 2009 at 9:23 pm
Brian Brian Brian.
Where do you get this “chaining womens bodys” crap from ?
Something you would like to share with us ?
Ah yea, the ole death penalty argument.
Well, babys really have no crimes to answer to now, do they ?
Babies are beards ?
Go get your head examined
January 25th, 2009 at 9:24 pm
Yes we are mean.
And you’re nice because you cut babies out of their womb abd toss em in a dumpster.
January 25th, 2009 at 9:28 pm
“God, using nature, has chosen to provide women with some freedoms, one being their body’s use by themselves. They will have to decide for themselves. That’s natures way. ”
Nooooo.
Natures way is to have the baby.
Otherwise why would nature even start the whole process in the first place ?
Certainly not just to have some extra human road kill laying around.
Right ?
January 25th, 2009 at 9:56 pm
as you are well aware nobody can agree on just when you have a baby, till its birthed. some say conception, some say preschool. The underriding theme here is the sanctity one should have over their own body. Society can try and educate and make life better and safer, but it shouldn’t imprison people for what they do to their bodies. There use to be very punitive laws for any kind of abortion, so it became a coat hanger in the alley way affair, which is very dangeours to the health of the woman. I do think God works through nature, and nature is what we see in action. Even floods, fires, and litter are acts of God. The problem with the bible is it was written thousands of years before current technology and global social structures. I am not sure the “rapture” is going to come with a conveinent software update Bible 2.0, so we are stuck looking at natural basics. Natures way is to provide a baby option, but in this curious way human and nature merge into one and we can’t simply devoid the human of the natural relationship with nature. God gave us free will and the story of the three talents is hoping that we use it wisely.
January 26th, 2009 at 4:56 am
Until the baby is old enough to make a decision about his/her own body, abortion should be illegal. My guess is that just about all babies would choose a chance at life rather than being burned or cut to death.
Seems to me, the “meanness” is on the pro-abortion side. There is no “pro-choice” because the only person choosing is the mom. The baby’s right are being completely ignored.
How we protect the most vulnerable in our society speaks volumes for our character.
January 26th, 2009 at 6:15 am
I thought that the ones that hurt babies were the mean ones. Maybe my mommy was wrong, she should have been nice as Brian says and aborted me.
January 26th, 2009 at 6:58 am
“as you are well aware nobody can agree on just when you have a baby, till its birthed. some say conception, some say preschool. The underriding theme here is the sanctity one should have over their own body.”
Yes.
And what about there being a voice foor the sanctity of the babys body ?
Give it up Brian.
A woman is inconvenienced for 9 months of her life in exchange for some elses life that could be a hundred years.
I agreed on my children at the moment my wife said she was pregnant.
We go with life first, the most precious of all things, and worry about piddly a$$ crap like you do later.
Really, and I’ll say it again.
When you think that getting an abortion is as big a deal as trimming your beard you need some serious serious psychiatric help buddy.
I also have a bunch of personal feelings describing what I think of you or anyone who sees life as so dispensable but I probably dont have to list them because anyone else reading this knows exactly what I’m talking about.
You’re sick dude.
And I mean that very seriously.
You’re sick.
January 26th, 2009 at 7:52 am
Let’s find a solution that will make most everyone happy. No more abortions!! Let the baby be born and then if the “parent/parents” don’t want the baby they simply put it into a plastic bag and pitch it in a dumpster.
January 26th, 2009 at 8:15 am
I am so glad that Obama is working to fix the economy by always woman to murder their unborn children. I thought you Dems always hide behind women and children. Every tax increase and every program is “For the Children” yet you think it is okay to kill them. Why not engage in sex or at least use birth control if you don’t want children. Do conceive them and then kill them. This is why Liberals are hypocrites.
Brian, God said that before you were formed (by Him) in your mothers womb that he knew all the days of your life.
Psalms 139:13-16: For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth, your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.
Someday Obama will have to answer for calling himself a Christian and then allow this to happen.
God can and will heal the women that have had an abortion. It is called Sin and should not be a political issue. It is a moral issue.
January 26th, 2009 at 8:22 am
While this is a bit off the main topic of this thread, we shouldn’t have anything to worry about, because Pelosi is going to stimulate our economy (no pun intended) by adding billions of dollars to the economic stimulus plan for birth control. So, this whole abortion issue will soon be a mute one, Nancy is going to save us all . . .
January 26th, 2009 at 8:30 am
The day that Nancy or Harry do anything that helps America, is the day I will endorse a Democrat for office.
January 26th, 2009 at 8:39 am
Heck, the day that Harry does anything but whine about Republicans is the day I’ll support him again. I honestly don’t know what happened to that man, he used to be a true conservative democrat 15 years ago. He has really changed over the years, sadly.
January 26th, 2009 at 9:00 am
I think that when any of them become leaders, they let the power go to their head and they change. Bill Frist did, Trent Lott. They put party first, country second.
January 26th, 2009 at 10:18 am
I just love it when people talk about “mute issues.” I don’t want to be a grammar/vocabulary police here – but the term is “moot issues.” A “moot issue” means that it no longer has any practical (or legal) significance. “Mute” means not being able to speak – or not making a sound. It reminds me of folks who talk about “intensive purposes” instead of “intents and purposes.”
Just a little light-hearted observation and correction.
January 26th, 2009 at 12:18 pm
Then mute is moot.
Didnt Harry start falling apart once Nancy started hanging around him ?
January 26th, 2009 at 1:22 pm
Does obama remember that his mother was a teenager when she had him and she could of gotten an abortion. Oh dam it why didn’t she.
January 26th, 2009 at 2:48 pm
“I know that there isn’t a fool proof form of birth control.”
ummmmm … actually … catholic mothers are …
oh, and boys that watch star trek
January 26th, 2009 at 2:52 pm
“Oh dam it why didn’t she.”
well i guess that dam issue is mute
January 26th, 2009 at 4:01 pm
if people can abort babies, i think i should be allowed to shoot southerners …
that would be far less controversial, and far less loss to society as a whole
starting with georgia
