The Brazilian beauty became ill on December 30th, 2008 and was misdiagnosed and treated for kidney stones. She had been in hospital since January 3rd.

By the time the urinary tract infection was discovered, and the bacteria identified as the rare and deadly Pseudomonas Aeruginosa, septicemia had set in, causing a “fast deadening of tissue” leading to a lack of blood flow and then organ failure.

Miss da Costa had recently signed with a well-known model scout, Dilson Stein who discovered Gisele Bundchen. She had a an impressive portfolio of modeling and pageant successes. According to her fiance, Thiago Simoes, she was on her way to international stardom.

Simoes speaking before her death, said she “had never dieted, never took pills…she is a very simple, very warm human being.”
