Rather than leave a petty topic alone, Barack Obama took on both Rush Limbaugh and Senate Republicans today in a poorly calculated move that distracts from his first days in office and increases partisan rancor in Washington.

Limbaugh Versus Obama: The Country Loses

Rush Limbaugh has been heavily criticizing President Obama on radio this week as anyone would expect a conservative talk radio host to do, particularly arguing that any socialist proposals really should fail in the U.S.

That’s what hosts do to improve ratings. Keith Olbermann learned from Limbaugh’s playbook that an opposition ideology is always good for market share which is why the former sportscaster postured in the last two years. Now Olbermann’s ratings are tanking with a favorable administration and Limbaugh is on the rise again.

Apparently Obama couldn’t stay above the fray so he fired back in ill-conceived comments that seemingly bring the President of the United States down to the level of a talk show host.

In the strangest meeting yet of the new administration, Barack Obama warned Republicans on Capitol Hill that they need to quit listening to radio king Rush Limbaugh if they want to get along with Democrats and the new administration.

“You can’t just listen to Rush Limbaugh and get things done,” he warned stunned lawmakers.

“I won,” the President stated.

Nanny nanny? What is the President thinking?

We have two wars to win, suddenly confused allies about our foreign policy direction, and an economy that needs some TLC. Obama’s oratorical skills leave him in a good position to rally the public and lawmakers to his side and get things done. But instead, he slams the GOP while drawing more attention to Limbaugh. Politics as usual in Washington.

An Obama-Limbaugh feud is not what the country needs now and not what Obama needs to be effective. What we elected him to do was change the mood in Washington by promoting bipartisanship.

It appears that Barack Obama has taken his eye off the ball.
