New York Governor David Patterson will announce today that Kirsten Gillibrand will be the new Senator for New York. She is will be taking the seat vacated by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. Read her biography, see photos and a video of her below.

New York Congressional sources are reporting that Governor David Patterson will hold a press conference at noon today to announce that his choice to fill the Senate seat vacated by Hillary Clinton is Kirsten Gillibrand. Its being reported that Patterson had wanted to appoint a woman from upper New York. Gillibrand, from Hudson, New York fills the bill.

Gillibrand is a Blue Dog democrat who has a 100% rating from the National Rifle Association. Many New York liberals consider her unacceptable because of her association with the NRA, support of hunter’s rights, vote for extending funding for the war in Iraq, support of the Bush tax cuts and willingness to break with the democrats when necessary.

She is a second term Congresswoman from New York’s 20th congressional district.

Kirsten Gillibrand Biography

Kirsten Elizabeth Rutnik was born on December 9, 1966 in Albany, New York. She is 42 years old. She is the daughter of Douglas P. Rutnik, an attorney with the New York public defender’s office and Polly Noonan Rutnik, also an attorney. Gillibrand graduated from Emma Willard School in Troy, New York in 1984. She graduated magna cum laude from Dartmouth college and in 1991 earned her J.D. from UCLA School of Law.

Gillibrand was elected to the U.S. Congress in 2006 and is currently at the beginning of her second term. She splits her time between Washington, D.C. and her home in New York.

She is married to Jonathan Gillibrand. They have two children, sons Theodore born in 2004 and Henry Nelson, born on May 15, 2008.
