On January 20, 2009, President-elect Barack Hussein Obama will take the Oath of Office, using President Lincoln’s Inaugural Bible. It will be administered by the Chief Justice of the United States, the Honorable John G. Roberts, Jr. Read more about it below, see photo and watch a video.
President-elect Barack Obama will use the same Bible at his inauguration that Abraham Lincoln used for his swearing in. Obama will be the first president since Lincoln to use that Bible, which is part of the historic collection of the Library of Congress.
The burgundy velvet Bible with gilded edges was purchased and inscribed by William Thomas Carroll, clerk of the Supreme Court. The Lincolns’ family Bible was not available at the time of the ceremony because it was packed with belongings that were en route to the White House from Springfield, Illinois.
It seems The One owns no family Bible that’s why he must co-opt republican president Abraham Lincoln’s for his own swearing in ceremony. Why doesn’t he use a democratic president’s Bible? Could it be that most democratic presidents didn’t own one and if they did, it was primarily for show? coughclintoncough
And actually Obama seems to be co-opting a number of Lincoln things these days – from train rides to food. Sadly, there seems to be no democratic presidential role model for this poor soul to model himself after, even to the point of simply using their Bible!
No matter how hard he pretends, Barack Obama is no Abraham Lincoln.

Hate hate hate. All you do is hate. Well, doh. The symbolism is obvious–something you do not mention at all.
For Lincoln, freedom was a real issue, yes indeedy. We fought one of the bloodiest wars in the history of man for freedom. Who could have predicted it? The nation founded on freedom and liberty had to fight its own, personal war for freedom–and a terrible war it was.
I know you hate Obama. But for just one moment, why don’t you open up your mind and consider what this means: The first black president of the United States. It is entirely fitting to use Lincoln’s Bible. Lincoln would have wanted it that way. I only hope that in some other dimension, some other reality, Lincoln is watching, and that he is full of joy.

Unlike so many on the left, you included, most of us on the right don’t hate Obama. We disagree with him. He is an empty suit that has done nothing to become president except talk about change and hope and hope and change. And like sheep led to slaughter, you all lined up behind him and followed him on the yellow brick road to hope and change.
I think Mr. Lincoln would oppose his ideas also. I personal hope and pray for Mr. Obama daily. Because he is our President. If he succeeds, we all succeed. If he fails, we all fail. But he is not Lincoln and needs to show us who he really is. We have had enough words from him. How about some real action?
He keeps saying we are facing the worst economic crises since the Great Depression and yet on his first day, he will allow gays to serve openly in the military.
Ed, how is that going to help my finances?
He will destroy the military because so many on the left hate the military. He cares more about what people think then about doing the right things even when it is unpopular.
I will be open-minded when you all on the left open you minds and stop doping it with the kool-aid and talking points. When you all look at the facts and realize you how closed minded you are. This country owes us nothing. We owe it everything. We have freedom that others are literally willing to die for. And that the government is you and me. Not Obama, Bush , Reid and Pelosi. They work for us.
We don’t work for them.
Let Lincoln be Lincoln and let Obama be Obama.

Hes just taking advantage of the generic impression people have of Lincoln by trying to align himself with the man.
Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth, upon this continent, a new nation, conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that they all get bitter and cling to their guns or religion with antipathy to people who aren’t like them or have anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.”
