Dana Perino is President George W. Bush’s Press Secretary. She went along on his recent surprise trip to Iraq and unfortunately, she received the injury in the so-called ‘melee’ that followed the now famous Bush Shoe incident. You can read more about it below, see photos and watch a video.

We all know by now what happened. Muntadar al-Zaidi, an Iraqi journalist, threw his shoes at our president George W. Bush during a Baghdad press conference, calling him a dog.

“This is a goodbye kiss from the Iraqi people, dog,” yelled Zaidi as he threw the shoes.

The President was unhurt in the incident — showing great good will and remarkably quick reflexes in my opinion — but his white house spokeswoman, Dana Perino received a black eye during the fluff up that followed. You can see a close up of her shiner by going here.

Apparently, Dana was sitting to the side of the president when she was inadvertently hit by a microphone as the president’s Secret Service agents responded and officials scrambled to wrestle the loser journalist to the ground. She joked saying this in a recent presser:

“The shoe check-in and check-out policy will begin tomorrow.”

As always, she was gracious if not cautious.
