Mumbai Police Vijay Salaskar, Ashok Kamte, and ATS Hemant Mumbai were all killed in India today during the Mumbai blast. The Indian Express, the Times of India, CNN IBN, NDTV, The Hindu, BBC India, CNBC India are all reporting on the story and are saying at least 70 people are dead. See more on the story, pictures, a video, an India map and a Mumbai map below.
People are still trapped inside the Taj Mahal Hotel and the Oberio Hotel. Officials are saying the situation is still not under control. The attacks take place in South Mumbai, India’s financial capital, and frequent visiting place of westerners.
Reports say that British and Americans were the target of these attacks. Indian Mujahideen has claimed responsibility for the attack. The attackers were Islamic extremists, but Indian Intelligence believes this group is a front for the Students’ Islamic Movement of India (SIMI). Further speculation is that they are funded by government agencies in Pakistan.
We’ll keep you posted as more information comes in.

I really don’t understand that Taj and Oberoi being one of Mumbai main Hotels and still there is no security and those terrorists enetered the hotel and created such a big issue. I believe, once this issue gets over our mumbai police should should think whether MUMBAI is safe. Instead of fighting over the religion but unite together and fight the terrorism

Yes, with all the valuable assets, plus major economic meetings taking place there, you would think that major security would be a priority. It’s going to be like Manhatten before you know it. They need Giulianni.

It is a shame that mumbai is targeted so many times and that tarnishes India’s image in global business community of no faults of hers.
High security should be always there and govt. should take responibilty of foriegners and indians

They are saying they still have at least a hundred people held hostage and that they went through looking for people with US and UK passports.
Its was obvious an attack intended to target Westerners (United States and the UK in particular) and to damage India’s financial district.
People so quickly forget that we are in a GLOBAL War on Terrorism. They seem to think its all located in one place.

I think whats really sickening is that although the targets were westerners they managed to kill 80 and wound something like 8 or 900 and yet they only got one American.
Somehow that didnt come out right but I’m sure you all know what I mean.

Come on guys – there is hardly any civilian establishment in the world safe today from these types of motivated attacks. I have stayed at both of these hotels and they have adequate security for normal crimes and lone criminals. You would need dozens of armed guards at every door to stop the type of attack that happened here. Perhaps that is what the world needs now to feel safe. Sad – but perhaps true.

Do you think this kind of attack could have been perpetrated in Manhatten? Of course it did on 9/11. But it took elaborate planning and funding from an government agency (Afghanistan). That’s why I think Pakistan was behind this one folks.
