Spirit One Christian Church in Kansas has gotten in hot water for having a sign in front of the church declaring that Barack Obama is a Muslim. Read about it and the backlash against the church. Video included.
The Spirit One Christian Church in Wichita, Kansas is not unfamiliar with running afoul of political correctness. The church has been investigated in the past for the words they have put up on the sign that stands beside their church building. Now they’ve gone and done it again. The sign in front of the church reads: “America We Have A Muslim President. This Is Sin Against The Lord.”
You can imagine the outrage from Obama followers at this sign in front of this church. It lead to a shouting match in front of the church on Sunday between church members and supporters of Obama.
The Spirit One Christian Church is standing by their statement, even though Obama has been a member of a Christian church for some years. They claim they have the right to free speech under the Constitution. Many of Obama’s followers are claiming their sign is incendiary and violates the separation fo Church and State. Of course, as can be expected, the IRS is being called in to investigate whether or not the church has violated its tax exempt status.
Some people are comparing this to the hate filled rantings of the Phelps church in Topeka, Kansas that protest and celebrate at the funerals of American Soldiers and hold up signs about their hatred of America and all it stands for. The comparison is a huge stretch.
A closer comparison might be between a church that decries the questionable associations and past of the future President and his own home church that stars the Reverend Jeremiah Wright who decries America as evil and calls on God to damn America. No, even that isn’t a good comparison. The Chicago church that Barack Obama and his family were actively involved in for twenty years did much worse that putting up a sign protesting someone.
I personally don’t agree with either of these guys. The thing is that people seem more outraged over what Mark Holick of the Spirit One Christian Church than they are at the outrageous statements that have come out of the Obama’s home church. One is deemed evil while the other is excused. I’m sure the IRS has checked out the tax exempt status of Rev. Wright’s church.

I honestly would hope that even though you obviously differ politically from President-Elect Obama, you would not use these idiots as a podium to go off about Wright again…just denuonce their moronic actions and move on. Shame on you.

I live right near this church. When my girlfriend and I were actively hunting for a good church to attend, I’m glad we gave this one a wide berth! God calls all active Christians to love one another, and to grow the church. I can assuredly say that the congregation of this organization has not grown above 100 people for many years. The fundamental christian values that Spirit One stands for are accurate, but their vocalic treatment of moral and political issues are a sure-fire way to turn folks right off, giving Christianity a very bad name. It will cause more hatred of Christians than acceptance. I’m afraid this church has already caused far-reaching damage and anger amongst the local community, and more recently the entire nation as news of their downright offensive and unnecessary signage becomes national news.
