A couple of interesting things have happened since the media has declared Barack Obama our next President. One is that the economy took a nose dive. The other is that gun sales have skyrocketed. The gun sales could have something to do with Obama’s gun control policy. Read about it below.
The Second Amendment of the Constitution of the United States guarantees citizens the right to keep and bear arms.
A well regulated Militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed.
The right of the people of the United States to bear arms has been discussed in every way shape and form, but the Constitution is very clear about it. A smaller Federal government has enabled States, districts and cities to decide for themselves whether or not they will uphold the Constitution or infringe on those rights to one degree or another. The results of ‘gun control’ have been very clear to anyone willing to see it. Those areas that restrict law abiding citizens from owning guns have the highest violent crime rates in the country, while areas that allow citizens to own guns are relatively free of gun crime.
But the discourse on the Second Amendment is rarely rational and free of emotionally driven hyperbole.
Barack Obama’s gun control policy, or should I write anti-gun record is long and informative:
- 1994 to 2001 – Obama was on the board of the anti-gun Joyce Foundation. This foundation is the largest funding source for radical anti-gun groups in the country.
- 1996 – Obama supported a ban on the manufacture, sale and possession of handguns.
- 1999 – Obama proposed a 500 percent increase in the excise taxes on firearms and ammunition. This tax would effectively punish gun owners for buying guns and ammunition.
- 2003 – Obama voted in support of legislation that would have banned privately owned hunting shotguns, target rifles and black powder rifles in Illinois.
- 2004 – Obama voted against legislation intended to protect homeowners from prosecution in cases where they used a firearm to halt a home invasion.
Barack Obama now claims he is not anti-gun ownership. His campaign has put out statements saying he supports law abiding citizens’ right to own certain types of guns used for particular purposes. In fact, his campaign says that he’ll uphold the Second Amendment. His voting record belies what he now claims, that as President he would be no threat to American gun owners.
Just a few months ago, the Supreme Court shot down the D.C. gun ban. It was a 5-4 decision. What would it have been with Obama appointing Justices to the Supreme Court?
Its hard to trust a man will uphold the Constitution when he very recently stated that the Constitution is fundamentally flawed.
With all of that in mind, is it any wonder that gun sales are up by 25%? I don’t know about you, but this Annie’s gonna get her gun.

nice pic beth… love those boots.
the post is exceptional as well. after overturning our partial birth abortion ban he will mess with the guns. he has already promised us that.

Like the boots? I do too. I should say that they are mine and I had my husband take that pic. You couldn’t prove me wrong! lol

The economy took a dive because of the lazzy faire policies of geo w bushy who refused to regulate the increasing partying wallstreet and big banks while dumping more punch into the low interest punchbowl for these “people” to make even bigger bets and a giant bad a bubble. It wasn’t barak obama, though he will soon get his chance to. For black people guns are a real problem if any of you have taking a sunday ride through the hood lately or if your a small fast food mart and the like. For white ranchers guns are less likely a problem. For suburbanites and urbanites guns are problematic but the powers that be have allowed them guns so far. Is our constitution flawed? We do know some of our forefathers were, brilliant though they may be. So yes there are some problems there as our nation has evolved and grown way crowded and developed electricity, cars, industry, post industry, cell phones and ipods and iphones and been invaded by huge throngs of illegal immigrants and wall street has been allowed to plunder both the people and the taxpayer and continue to pay itself huge bonuses that could feed millions of families. I think our problems go a lot deeper than obama frankly.

There is no doubt that Obama as President, would act quickly to attack the 2nd Amendment and disarm law-abiding Americans as soon as possible.
There’s no way Obama can accomplish his Socialist Agenda of redistributing wealth & assets, unless he disarms us first.
Americans will fight for their Freedom, their hard-earned income, their hard earned property – IF they are able to fight.
Only if we are disarmed, will Obama be able to seize our 401k’s and other assets, and raise our Income Tax & Payroll tax to take from the Middle & Upper classes, to redistribute as Obama sees fit.
November 2nd, 2008 at 11:37 pm
we are already disarmed when you consider the power of a SWAT team and joint police, US marshalls, and atf ice and all sorts of ad hoc teams that are frequently brought together to do a “job” and the laws and courts that will protect it afterwards.
November 2nd, 2008 at 11:40 pm
MaxGrobnik – therein lies Obama’s problem. Disarming the American public would be pretty near impossible. Most American’s are gun owners. Many (if not most) have small arsenals in their homes. The only way a dictator can take control is to disarm – and I’m pretty sure they’d have to go house to house to do that and they’d run out of people willing to go house to house pretty quickly.
So – his hopes for the changes he wants to make are pie in the sky. It just won’t happen.
November 3rd, 2008 at 12:09 am
I don’t see any massive gun reform, with the exception of keeping assult weopons out of people’s hands which is a good idea if you ask me. Some 22 year old idiot just machined gunned his walls and killed a trick or treater and wounded another. This kid literally shot an ak47 through the front of his house many times at a kid and dad walking up his sidewalk to his front door. Imagine the mentality of such a person? How would they even occupy the house after that? Our cities don’t need that. There were no machine guns when the 2nd amendment was written so they didn’t know there would be a big problem down the road. But what obama could do is require a federal firearms safety test(both written and practical), register the owners as having passed knowing their addresses then, possibly register the firearm, even bullet purchases, and demand proof of gun safes, gun lock’s etc and basically nickly and dime ownership to the bitter ends. You could argue this is more responible ownership, or that criminals certainly won’t do this. In a perfect world you would want people to learn safety and how to operate such a thing as half firearm fatalities are guns stolen or turned against their owners, domestic disputes, and accidents. Not everyone is suited to use a firearm and we aren’t farmers on the ranch surrounded by prey and predators anymore with single shot muzzle loading guns. They didn’t even have cartridge weopons in that day.
November 3rd, 2008 at 10:28 pm
Someone mentioned illegals. Did you see the news article on obama’s relatives still here illegally, even after being ordered by the INS to leave? I’ll bet that reporter will be added to the list of reporters not allowed to cover another obama event.
About that “kid” that actually turns out to be 22, there was mention of an ak47, and machine gun. Did the reporter mention how he legally got a class III license from the government? Or maybe it really wasn’t really a machine gun. For the obama/brady supporter that posted about this, you would already know that class III weapons already require federal permission, registration, taxes, etc.
As for obama fixing anything in this country, if he has to lie about his support for the 2nd amendment, and already infringing on the first amendment, how can anybody believe what he says about anything else? Is it because if he say so, and his web site says so, it must be true? Check out his actual record, see how he actually voted, what he avoided voting on, and his actual accomplishments (NONE). Has everyone forgot about his associates, that he is temporarily avoiding? What about his contributors, such as George Soros, freddie mac, fannie mae, and foreigners interested in a weak america?

First off, how can the economy have taken a nose dive, and weapons sales are up after Obama declared the winner ? He was declared the winner at 11pm central. I don’t know of any gun shops open around that time. In CA it would have been earlier, but I suspect they dont have 24 hr gun shops. What a bunch of crap. Come on people, we have a chance to get things right. Lets give the man a shot.
November 5th, 2008 at 3:12 am
Kevin – this post was written a couple of days ago – gun sales have been up by 25% since Obama has been ahead in the polls. That is a fact.
November 5th, 2008 at 4:19 am
in the last century of the last millenium 110 million people were murdered by governments gone bad. these are U>N statistics.
keep in mind now that four US presidents were sworn members of the KU KLUX KLAN, while they were in office .. what stopped them from implementing an agenda that was Klan based …..AN ARMED POPULATION>>>>>>THE PEOPLE THEY WOULD HAVE ROUNDED UP FOR EXTERMINATION WERE ARMED !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
November 5th, 2008 at 6:56 am
Obama has been a moderate on gun control his entire career. Its pretty funny that you think he wants to disarm the American people… honestly… I’m laughing at you right now. I am a sportsman, and the proud owner of an assault rifle.
November 5th, 2008 at 7:41 am
Just remember WHY the 2ed Amendment is in place. It’s not to hunt or target practice! It’s there that if the government should go out of control and a guy like Obama, takes over in the form of a dictator, that the citizens can shoot back if their freedoms are threatened!
I didn’t vote for Obama but he is our President and I respect that. I predict he’ll either be the greatest politician to occupy the White House or a disaster! There are no in betweens with this guy!
November 5th, 2008 at 9:18 am
I live in a small town of about 800 people and there are well over 2000 guns in homes of these 800 people. There has never been an incident of violence involving guns. i am a sportsman and have no problem putting restrictions on assault rifles and i believe every gun owner should have to take some sort of safety coursse before purchasing a firearm. However, he did vote on banning personally owned shotguns and muzzleloaders, What is someone going to do with a muzzleloader????? true danger comes with criminals illegally buying guns out of a trunk. Not with the honest american sportsman
November 5th, 2008 at 12:13 pm
If you ever thought of owning a gun you better buy it now. Obam the socilist will take them away, lokk who his vice president is they are both antigun. He will tax everything so high law abiding citizens will not be able to afford guns or ammunition. This is very scary especially since he is already sensoring the media about certain things. Just remeber America when things go down hill you voted him in. Congradulations on all you lazy non christians you got the best candidate for yourselves.
November 5th, 2008 at 12:15 pm
Cody keep telling yourself that. Enjoy hunting this year. You might not be able to afford ammunition next year.
November 5th, 2008 at 1:22 pm
I too am a sportsman, but let’s leave that alone for a minute. If restrictions are placed on gun ownership or taxes are levied to discourage legal gun purchases, criminals will still obtain guns ILLEGALLY…remember, they’re criminals! So why should I, a law abiding, tax paying citizen not be allowed to protect myself, my family and my property because thugs or idiots misuse firearms? It makes no sense. Truly, guns don’t kill people. Idiots and criminals kill people that usually aren’t armed themselves.
November 5th, 2008 at 2:40 pm
[...] stance on gun control is not constitutional. Surprise. He supported legislation to ban the manufacture, sale, and [...]
November 5th, 2008 at 3:29 pm
First off to Cody, your are a complete douche. You obviously don’t read the facts. You might as well be laughing at yourself as well because like js said, enjoy hunting this year because when you have to max out your credit cards and take out a second mortgage on your house for a single hunting trip next year, you’ll be crying instead of laughing and I’ll be laughing at you. I also very much agree whti JUSTIN in that EVERY American who wants to own a firearm should have to take a safety class and pass background and compitence checks prior to the purchase of any firearm. It’s the idiots that have the right but not the common sense that end up shooting themselves or friends or family members accidentaly that ruin it for the rest of the legitimate public. But the truth is that no matter what laws or bans get passed, the criminals will still be able to get their hands on any guns they want. You can register guns to the fullest extent with fingerprinting, background checks, I wouldn’t be surprised if they put DNA sampling in there too, etc. but that won’t account for the millions of guns that are on the streets illegally. It’s not law abiding citizens that are murdering people in robberies or shoot outs, it’s the criminals. I do agree that some restriction is necessary to ensure that guns don’t end up in the hands of criminals or stupid people but an all out ban is ridiculous. Obama stateed that an assault rifle serves the lone purpose of killing people. That’s untrue. Everybody has different hobbies. I’m a musician that plays guitar, bass, drums, and keyboard. Music is my hobby. Some peoples’ hobby is to load up their arsenal and blow the s#@t out of empty soda cans. As long as they’re doing so responsibly and teaching their children responsible gun handling and ownership, they have as much right to shoot a pumpkin with a full auto SKS as I do to strum my 6 string. Obama also wants to ban concealed carry. You have to be clean as a whistle to be approved for a concealed carry. I know because I have one. He also claims that he intends to close “loop holes” in some of our current gun control policies. Let me tell you something about loopholes. A murderer can walk away a free man because of one little technicality like an illegal search. I realize that we as Americans have rights but under certain circumstances a police officer should reserve the right to make a judgment call. I know of a case where one guy shot another and was seen by a witness. The witness called 911 and the police found him and the murder weapon which was confirmed by ballistics testing. Because the search was ruled as an illegal search the murder walked. If Obama wants to fix loopholes he needs to start with our criminal justice system that is supposed to be in place to protect the citizens of this country.
November 5th, 2008 at 5:11 pm
I completely agree with edward about criminals and [edited to idiots] that shoot people. Obama is a liar and will try to disarm the american public before its too late for anyone to stop him. I just really hope we can get through these miserable next four years and get back to republican control.
November 6th, 2008 at 8:13 am
You people sound as crazy as over-zealous religionites. Seriously, what world do you people live in? If you’d be too lazy to protest a strict gun control policy then you deserve to be disarmed. So quit whining like little children and buck up. We have a large number of items and a small table right now so why would gun control even be anywhere near first in line? It’s not like as soon as a president is sworn in all of his/her policies are enacted… you guys… are too much
November 6th, 2008 at 12:39 pm
Oye-
You obviously don’t understand what a cascade of events is. First they take away our right to arms because they say that the constitution was not written for our time. Next they take away our free speech because they say that the constitution was not written for our time. It’s the domino effect. Do you actually believe thay they’ll stop at guns? Next they’ll say that a swiss army knife is a concealed deadly weapon. You come in to this blog and insult everyone’s educated opinions with your schoolyard level comebacks because you have the RIGHT to. If we let them trample one amendment what’s to stop them from slowly hacking at another? Can you imagine a USA that would outlaw blogs such as this because of an excuse like “it’s not morally right” or “it’s lowering the morale in our country” when all in all they’re just slowly taking away our rights? And who says I’m too lazy to protest? If Obama tries to extend his reach beyond the threshold of my home, I will be the first to protest with my gun openly holstered at my side because I have the RIGHT to. If you don’t agree with what we’re saying then come in and state an educated opinion and make your case, otherwise SHUT UP! Our fundamental rights should always be priority one. The world in which I live is the real world. You should take a day off and visit us some time although your eyes may experience some discomfort since you have obviously never used them before.

About Mr. Obama’s plan to disarm Americans, I would like to quote the late and very great Charlton Heston, and say “YOU CAN HAVE MY GUNS WHEN YOU PRY THEM FROM MY COLD DEAD HANDS”. Obama will have a fight on his hands if he trys to take my guns.Americans please do not give up without a fight, and the best way to do this is to join the NRA.
November 7th, 2008 at 9:31 am
Brian, you believe that Bush and the lack of regulation are the causes of the recent meltdowns? Are you aware that the reason the mortgage industry invested so much in subprime loans is that the democrats pushed for more easy money for borrowers who did not have the ability to pay it back? They intruded on a free market and required the lending of money to those who, in a free market, would never have gotten loans because they didn’t qualify. This started in about (I believe) 92. At least as early as 2004 Bush and the Republicans were on the Hill trying to obtain *regulation* of this practice but the Democrats, let by Ms. Waters and Mr. Frank, sent them packing. Any effort to stem the tide of easy loans to (unqualified) minorities was deemed racist. It is such a great irony in this election cycle that the Republicans were blamed for a problem the Democrats caused. The fox is now truly in charge of the henhouse.

I have heard a few comments from “sportsmen” who own hunting and sporting firearms and who think a ban on assault weapons is a good idea. While I appreciate individual opinions on this matter, I feel obligated to state mine as well. The Second Amendment to the constitution was placed into the Bill of Rights so everyone could legally own a firearms for protection of self, property, and from tyranny. The battle at Lexington and Concord had to do with the British attempting to seize the armories, thus disarming the colonists. The Second Amendment has very little to do with hunting or sportsmen. It is about protecting yourself and your family against danger and/or tyranny.
I will concede the colonists could not imagine an AK-47, Uzi or any other such weapons. However, the muskets and muzzleloaders used by the colonists were “assault weapons” for their time… the same used by the british military.
The AR-15 and AK-47 do not serve any sporting purpose… but so what? The second amendment is not about whether or not you can dispatch game with these guns…it is about your freedoms. Let us not forget that tens of thousands of these rifles, maybe more, are legally in the hands of law abiding citizens who have never killed anyone or anything with them.
If you make a conscious decision not to excersize this right or others, that is your decision and I respect that. I respect the fear some have regarding guns and acknowledge the tragic fact that there are victims of crime that are hostile towards firearms. It is important to remember that the gun is a tool. It takes a warped and murderous mind to murder and injure. The firearm is a piece of machinery and it takes human evil to use this for evil purposes.
While not in favor of gun control in general, I do not believe anyone should be able to go by a tank or a bazooka, and there are people who are mentally ill and shoud never have access to a firearm. However, you should be able to defend yourself and to excersize your rights as an American.
As for the election, I wish President-Elect Barac Obama all the best for the tough road he has ahead of him, and I hope he will respect our liberties to the highest degree.
God bless the USA and thank you for letting me post here.

What really confuses me with all of this “what if” everyone is blasting off about….is where is it coming from? Obama is not in office yet and even when he does take office there are checks and balances in place to make sure a president doesnt get everything he wants. It is called Congress…ever heard of it? they are our checks and balances, so when/if Obama does try to pass some kind of gun ban law it has to be approved on the house and senate floors. And NRA is in almost every old timers back pocket, so dont worry about all of this “oh my god, he’s gonna take my guns away” crap because if he tries, it wont pass. Sad thing is there are some really intelligent people on this forum, wish they would have brought this up earlier.
November 7th, 2008 at 12:05 pm
Constitution was Written for the People and Written by the people to uphold our liberties and so that this country my grow with freedom of mankind. But since it was written there has been many a people that have tried (and succeeded) to break down the amendments so that we have no rights.
The politicians are PUPPETS and have a warped sense of law making..Taking the amendment..breaking it down and make laws against that amendment. We are living in the times of trials. Look at it from a point like this..
13 colinies…was the united states and the people even fought amongst themselves then and the Government then took the rest by force. But now we live in the UNITED DEVIDED STATES
Liberals, Gays, black, whites, hispanics, asin, chinese, Japanese, african….see where I am going…we have seperated our selves from what we really are in this world..HUMAN. We will always have differences but we are lacking the intellegence to work them out. It is all about Power and Wealth, Big and Small…etc.
I am part of the Human race and I do know my God given rights to protect my family the best way I see fit.
Think about all the wonderful things built by man to give man Power..as long as the People have Guns we have power..The Government does not want the people to have that much power or control.
THE ONLY THING FOR EVIL TO SUCCEED IN THIS WORLD..
IS FOR THE GOOD OF MEN TO DO NOTHING.
Believe in God, Family and Prayer and the way will be shown to you.
Guns..yes I have a bunch and only from my dead cold fingers will they get them

Beth, soory for the long post but I feel it is needed.
Never underestimate a tyrants ability or commitment to disarm the people. The Army has many weapons at it’s disposal. Gun Owners *will* become the new Jews and demonized like never before.
They can and will come for our guns and it might not be door to door. how many people are prepared to fight off a swat team invasion? or invasion by other methods?
THe point is everyone must plan and train. move the small arsenal out of the home. have some throwaways for them and say you sold the rest because of the economy when it was still legal to do so.
we must prepare to fight this coming ban on our terms and not theirs. yes after the first few searches maybe they start losing some people but it will not stop them.
therefore take the wind out of their sales by making it difficult if not impossible to find what they are looking for.
in 1776 when the revolutionary war started. american generals started by trying to go toe to toe with the british regulars and got clobbered. because that what the doctrine said how wars should be fought .
The Brits were very good at that warfare and we nearly lost by not realizing ahead of time that different approaches were needed.
at the battle of Cowpens Daniel Morgan used the unique landscape of Cowpens and the time available before Tarleton’s arrival to his advantage. He knew his men and his opponent, knew how they would react in certain situations, and used this knowledge to his advantage.
in addition to buying guns people need to get on the internet and read! Read Unintended consequences by John Ross, molon labe by boston tea party. The art of war also (very important in fact).
Each of us needs to study how they will come to get our guns and how they will react. and then use that to your advantage. the army has been training for quite a while, at least a decade, on how to go door to door to get the guns.
Study what they do, study the tactics of the American revolution. If it comes down to defending our freedom be prepared, be in shape and be fast and accurate. practice have ammo and reload, have water and food in places they will not think to look. ie NOT all in your house. They know how to tear apart a house and they have equipment that will look through walls. Stalin starved dissidents to death. by restricting travel.
Study the warsaw ghetto uprising and other resistance movements. learn to grow food and survive if you are forced out of your house. Have the seeds. I know it is alot to do and prepare for but it will be worth it. Turn off the TV. watch films about WW2 and what they did. get the raw footage of what they found after the defeated the nazi’s
Get Innocents Betrayed from JPFO http://www.jpfo.org and get copies and pass them out. Educate others.
Fortune favors the prepared mind and preparation is *everything*. because as it is said in the art of war, you want he battle to be won before it is waged. It can happen here. read about the bonus marchers. battle of athens and Waco.
The enemy has pretty effective “non lethal weapons” that can and do kill and can cause severe pain to entire areas and with in buildings and can make you sick. you can’t aim and fire having the heaves.
IOW *they have prepared* for the scenario of going door to door and getting the arms and have ways of doing so with out getting a single shot fired at them.
THere are always counter strategies. do the leg work and find out about the weapons systems they use and figure out ways of defeating them and tell others.
I mention this because most people think they will start by just breaking down the doors and going in guns blazing. they know that will not last long. so they will use a tank with a weapon to cause pain or sickness and go and aim it at an entire neighborhood and watch as the people come out puking their guts up.
New Orleans also was a test run for them and they got lots and lots of guns.
the bottom line is this. people are still in denial. oh they won’t do that that would be ridiculous. Watch a film called “the pianist” to see the cost of that strategy. It is a true story of someone who lived through the times.
If I am wrong people will be in good shape and have a good set of arms to pass down to their children. IF I am not wrong it can save the lives of you and yours.
Do not underestimate the will or determination of these people. doing so will cost you dearly.
They have camps already up and running to take dissents to. google for FEAM death camps. since 2003 there are 700 facilities in the US. haliburton (now a foreign corporation) has gotten 385 billion a year to build them under the guise of dealing with a bird flu pandemic.
So I know people will not like to think about training for this and would much rather remain in denial and think oh he’ll fail like Carter and then we’ll have another reagan. Not so the NWO intends to take over and they are doing it as we speak. to succeed they must disarm us.
Like it or not you are on the battlefield, you are behind enemy lines and there is no country that will come and rescue us. The Polish, while they fought hard against the German onslaught, they trusted that their allies would be there when they said they would and planned for that. The Brits and the French took their good ol time in showing up. and Poland fell. Contrary to popular belief they were not and easy push over. They costed the germans more than they expected. they got 25% of the german air force in the fight for instance.
But they could not stand toe to toe with them. .
so again like it or not we are at he beginning of a new and far more aggressive assault. They intend to use peoples disbelief to their advantage and shock and awe them. they will need pretense to do that. Joe Biden said He would be tested and that people would not like their actions but that they must hang with them.
This just might be the event that brings martial law “to keep us safe”. 9/11 cost us a huge amount of freedom to “keep us safe”. They have surveillance in place and all sorts of super snooping ready. advanced arms from a build up of the military. The camps to put dissidents in are in place and manned. The cameras all over the place are in with more going in every day. complete with software to face match and to determine if you are going to commit a crime by reading you face.
IN chess you position your pieces in preparation to unfold the plan. Thier pieces are ready and now the final stage is ready to be executed. google for endgame by alex jones. their plans are not a huge secret.
sorry for the length but people have to know about the coming danger.
November 7th, 2008 at 3:53 pm
Brian Loggler you have not read a whole lot of history have you? IT is not fear mongering it is being prepared. BTW 2A was never about Duck hunting. It was about resisting a government gone bad.
The brady bunch are already talking about the massive set of laws they will pass. they won’t call it gun bans but thats what they are.
I also apologize for some of my spelling I meant FEMA in the earlier post.
also remember here are people from katrina who are STILL residing in a FEMA camp and they are not allowed to leave and they have their children held in a separate camp. when a BBC reporter filmed it Exxon tried to get him arrested as a terrorist. Fortunately patriots got him out of the country and the truth was released.
The TSA abuses and killing of some people are all signs of what is to come. and BTW I think Bush was just as evil ! Michelle Obama is a CFR member just like Dick Cheney. And like Bush Obama was supported and funded by the bilderberg group.
These are the guys running the show. not us. Obama and hillary spent extensive time with them in VA during their meeting in the summer. Bush did as well be fore his election. Meeting with these people and foreign leaders with out the approval of congress or he president is a violation of he logan act.
watch the movie Endgame by alex Jones. google for it and you can watch the entire thing. bear in mind it is far from being “pro Bush” in fact you will learn some interesting facts about him as well.
Obama received lots of money from it’s members.

Please Please Please…once the gun bans are passed, the criminals will just lay down their weapons and surrender. Do you people really think they would be willing to break the law? Not a criminal. After all, if they do, they will lose their welfare and food stamps. See that is te law you are not considering. If they break the law, they will get their free government handouts taken away. That is why very few criminals are on drugs, drink an drive or commit any “real” crimes at all. So the gun ban WILL work…see the law-abiding citizens will obey the law and give up their guns and the criminals will be punished if they don’t so it will be very easy to reduce crime once the laws are passed. If we just had a visoinary leader like Obama sooner, we could have ended the Iraq war by just making guns illegal.
Also, criminals will not risk losing other benefits like student loans and HUD loans…since committing a crime excludes them for applying for these loans.

People hear about some stupid person doing something dumb with guns killing someone this or that but what the media fails to Tell us 99.9% of the time is where people used guns to protect them selves and familys from criminals trying to hurt them or rob them etc
if they ban guns they should also ban Cars/trucks they kill more people each year then guns……
also should stop media from showing so much crap on tv
November 9th, 2008 at 12:42 pm
well guns kill up to dozens of mostly kids in los angeles monthly and a guns sole purpose is to put a human killing tool on someone’s trigger finger whether they be 11 or 66 years old. Its not the same as trucks and cars which are involved in unintentional accidents. Not everyone is suited or ready to start shooting criminals trying to rob or hurt them and in those cases their own guns are usually turned against them. Even shooting a robber can get you arrested and charged and sued and a permanent gun charge on our record if your not shot by the police first. I think we are too crowded to have guns in every drawer and glove compartment.

If any one out there wants to know what a total gun ban will do to the crime rate here in the U.S. all you have to do is look up the crime rates for Austraila. A fiew years back they had ALL guns banned in Austraila, EVERYTHING, even singel shot .22 cal rifles were banned. as a result the violent crime rates there rose by over 300%!!!!! do we want that here, NO!!! Just think about it, if you were a criminal and you had a gun and you walked into a town or city where there was absolutely no guns owned by the citizens of that town or city, what would you do? You would take any thing you want from whatever house or buisness you wanted at the point of that gun because you know that the police can’t be everywhere at once, and not everyone can protect themselvs agenst an armed intruder. Now put a gun in 3 out of every 5 houses and then think about it, what would you do then? Thats not very good odds, is it? A smart criminal would look for a less protected city or town, am i not corect? A gun is a useful tool of protection, and in the hands of a 75 year old man or woman, will make him or her equal to the 21 year old criminal that is trying to hurt them or their family. I have had guns in my house all my life and they have never killed any one. So why punish the many law abiding gun owners for the wreckless acts of the fiew. keep the guns out of the hands of the criminals. Guns dont kill people, people kill people, and guns cause crime like flies cause garbage. The righr of THE PEOPLE to keep and bear arms, SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED!!!!!!
November 14th, 2008 at 7:23 pm
This is for Brian from post #8,
I am an owner of what you people call “assault weapons”. That is a stereotypical label for certain firearms, when in truth, any firearm is capable of killing. You stated in your post something to the effect, and I’m paraphrasing, “…the mentallity of that person.” The mentallity of the person is that he’s probably a sociopath, so he would have been just as capable of using a Louisville Slugger. So, in that instance, you have to ask yourself, was it the person, or the baseball bat that killed the other? Inannimate objects are incapable of doing anything.

To all,
Here is a news article I found in my old email forwards. After reading this, I believe that nothing more needs to be said:
Shooting in Butte, Montana
Shotgun preteen vs. illegal alien Home Invaders Butte, Montana November
5, 2006
Two illegal aliens, Ralphel Resindez, 23, and Enrico Garza, 26, probably
believed they would easily overpower home-alone 11 year old Patricia
Harrington after her father had left their two-story home.
It seems the two crooks never learned two things: they were in Montana
And Patricia had been a clay shooting champion since she was nine.
Patricia was in her upstairs room when the two men broke through the
Front door of the house. She quickly ran to her father’s room and grabbed
His 12 gauge Mossberg 500 shotgun.
Resindez was the first to get up to the second floor only to be the
First to catch a near point blank blast of buckshot from the 11-year-old’s
Knee crouch aim. He suffered fatal wounds to his abdomen and genitals.
When Garza ran to the foot of the stairs, he took a blast to the left
shoulder and staggered out into the street where he bled to death before
medical help could arrive.
It was found out later that Resindez was armed with a stolen 45 caliber
handgun he took from another home invasion robbery. That victim,
50-year-old David Burien, was not so lucky. He died from stab wounds to
The chest.
Ever wonder why good stuff never makes NBC, CBS, PBS, MSNBC, CNN, or ABC
News….
Now that is Gun Control

nitrohead70,
I couldn’t agree with you more. A sport or hunting rifle is just as capable of killing someone as an “assault” rifle. It’s all in the mind of the person behind the trigger. To brian in post #8, just because some militaries prefer certain weapons for infiltration doesn’t mean they only have the single purpose of killing people. I use an SKS to go hunting. You might as well say that a 30 06 serves only the purpose of a sniper rifle.

It’s really up around 49%.

OK, slightly off topic. I agree that obama probably won’t make any sweeping changes to gun control in his first term. But is he secures a second term that is when we need to be worried. On this thought I think the people of this country need to make a effort to do away with the electoral college, that way each persons vote counts. It is hard to believe that we are still using a system to elect our president that is over 200 years old. The electoral college was designed to expedite the process due to lack of fast communication. But we have moved into a era where information can be sent across the country in seconds. to tie this together, I think that only by getting rid of this outdated process can the vote of one person be important, only then can someone actually be convinced that his vote based on the gun control views, or any views, of a candidate make a difference.
November 24th, 2008 at 9:15 am
Folks, there are a lot of passions on this issue, but some basic points:
1. Lenin, Hitler, Mussolini, Mao, Castro — all rose to power as the “voice of the people”, they then disarmed their citizens and the fun began.
2. Obama doesn’t have to do ANYTHING except sign the bills. Pelosi, Reed, Boxer, Schumer, Feinstein, Kennedy, and their buds will do the heavy lifting.
3. The U.N. has been trying to get the US to ratify an international agreement on small arms that will effectively end the Second Amendment. If this gets on Obama’s desk and the Senate fast-tracks it, we’re screwed.
4. The agenda (after looking at what happened in the UK, Australia and Canada) will start out reasonable:
a. Close “loopholes” like private sales at gun shows;
b. Change the policy on retention of background check records (backing into national gun owner registration via purchase records);
c. Re-enact legislation banning certain types of guns based on cosmetic features or calibers;
d. Requiring cost-prohibitive technologies like microstamping of cartridge cases;
e. Putting punitive excise taxes on ammunition and reloading supplies (who’s this hurt, the guy who target shoots two hundred rounds at the range, or the criminal who only needs ten rounds to load his magazine?);
f. Passing liability laws to punish manufacturers and dealers if guns they made or sold get used in a crime;
I could go on, but the fact is, these steps will put a big hurt on the good guys, and do almost nothing to the bad guys — and that’s part of the plan!
Once Congress starts down the road to legislative fixes, it never ends. When these stupid measures don’t get firearms crime numbers down, that’s when the carry permits are in jeopardy, then home defense, and finally confiscation. Guess what, in England, Canada and Australia . . . the good guys lost their guns, and the bad guys are in charge.

If you want to know real statistics, check out http://www.gunfacts.info, it is very thourough.
As for so called “Assault Weapons” having no practical use beyond killing people, that is jus utter nonsence. I and several people I know and consider to be friends legitimately use so called “Assalt Weapons” for hunting every fall. An AR-15 can be used very effectivley on for both deer and varmit hunting. They are also very fun to take to the range.
The media is extremely liberally biased, and more often than not, over-sensationalizes events and does not report the facts completely in doing such.
Guns are used and estimated 2.5 million times per year in self-defense. Currently there are over 22,000 gun control laws in America. More laws are not the answer, maybe we should start enforcing the existing laws before making new ones.
The biggest problem with gun control is that it only effects the law abiding citizens of the country. The majority of criminals get their guns from illegal sources.
It is also important to note that in real life, “Assault weapons” are not the firearm of choice for criminals. They are not easily concealed. Criminals far prefer small handguns that they can carry on them and conceal from law enforcement and their intended victims.
I find the following statistics very relavent to this discussion:
71% of gunshot victims had previous arrest records.
64% had been convicted of a crime.
Each had an average of 11 prior arrests.
63% of victims have criminal histories and 73% of the time they know their assailant (twice as often as victims without criminal histories)
Do your part, Don’t let congress and Obama take away our freedoms. It starts small, but before long there is nothing left.
Here is a quote from Obama himself:
“My first priority will be to reinstate the assault weapons ban as soon as I take office. Within 90 days, we will go back after kitchen table dealers, and work to end the gun show and internet sales loopholes. In the first year, I intend to work with Congress on a national no carry law, 1 gun a month purchase limits, and bans on all semi-automatic guns.”

As a current Deputy Sheriff, I see many people from many different walks of life on a daily basis. To those of you who think that gun confiscation is the answer… Have you lost your minds?.. typical response times, depending on your location and proximity to law enforcement can be 5-10 minutes or more.
Would you stand by and watch someone you cared about being raped, murdered, tortured, etc. for that long? Have any of you had to fight for your life? or even been in a fight to protect yourself or others?
The bad guys will ALWAYS have weapons or other means to take advantage of the weak, in early times…rocks, spears, swords, sticks… you have the DUTY to protect the life which you were given. If you choose to not protect it, that’s you choice, don’t mess with those of us who have decided that we will.
A lot can happen in 5-10 minutes. When I first began my career in law enforcement, an Oklahoma State Highway Patrolman, who was also an instructor in self defense, was killed by a man in a ground fight. He was an EXPERIENCED OFFICER. Are you willing to give up what may be your only ability to save yourself? If so, then maybe you and our new president should go start a new country somewhere and leave ours alone.
As a law enforcement officer, and as a person who believes in common sense, it scares me to think that there are people that expect superman to come and save the day, when all that was needed in the first place was prevention. A very wise man once said ” Speak softly and carry a big stick”. Meaning, you may not even have to use the stick, but, it definitely makes people check themselves before acting when they know you have the ability to protect yourself.
To respond to previous comments about “keeping assault weapons out of XYZ’s hands”". seriously, grow up and stop watching Rambo movies. I have used many (by your definition) ” assault weapons” throughout my 26 years of existence, not a one of which was fully automatic. It seems to me as though your definition of an ” assault weapon” is incorrect. An ” assault weapon” would be one which would be able to fire fully automatic to keep an enemy’s head down in order to take a strategic position in battle. The purpose of the fully automatic fire is to put as many bullets as one possibly can in the air going towards the bad guy. Just because a rifle has a large capacity, is short, black, whatever, does not make it an assault rifle.
I’m also a hunter, and, who cares what I hunt with? as long as I am responsible and take my quarry humanely, it’s none of your business.
statistics of my own:
number of Burglars who would willingly go into a house where they knew the owner had a way to defend themselves=0
number who would go into an occupied house if they knew the owners would not kill them= MOST
911 is MINUTES away when SECONDS count.. you decide what to bet on.
I bet that I NEVER give up my guns, my bullets or my ability to THINK on my OWN.
God bless

I’m not much for politics and such, but I believe that a person elected to be our President should uphold our constitution not try to change it. Our forefathers were very smart and were able to foresee so much. I have read many posts where people like to say Americans don’t need the 2nd amendment because it was written to protect us from another British invasion. Sure they are our allies now but so was Bin Laden back in the 1980’s.
I don’t feel that any of our recent presidents have been “For the People. They all have their own agenda and it usually has to do with making money.
Look how many trillions of dollars private contractors were paid to “Rebuild Iraq when the UN offered to take over after our invasion. Same thing with the “Freedom Towers.
They are all government hired contractors.
I’m more scared of the loopholes the government makes on their own than any gun control loophole.
Does anyone really understand the “Patriot Act? If you stand up or rise against our government you can be labeled a terrorist. Releasing any and all rights as an American. You will be held without trial or representation. Imagine if America ever needed actually use our 2nd amendment and rise up to defend ourselves from a tyrant government… We would not be “Patriots but evil terrorists! Our own military would be sent out immediately to disarm and eradicate any group or militia formed. Can I say Waco!
Look how bad things have already gotten. Our rights are being picked apart one small piece at a time and soon there will be nothing left. My nephews are in high school and they were never taught about most of our nation’s historical events, or our constitutional rights. They didn’t even know what the 2nd amendment was about. This is our future! How can our rights be defended when our future leaders know nothing about them.
A small example of how our rights are slowly being taken is in our schools. How can we have freedom of speech when schools rip books off their shelves because someone complains about being offended by a word in books that are hundreds of years old and part of our American History? Come on! I’m sure there are over 200,000 words in our English language. Are we going to ban every word someone finds offensive? If you’re offended, I’m sorry but get over it. I’m appalled that we had slavery in the 1800’s but I’m not about to try and have schools remove that part of our American history.
Another example of our slow release of freedom is in religion.
How can we have freedom of religion when an atheist can complain about kids in their classrooms making Christmas cards for their parents? Now almost every holiday is being dismissed in schools because every holiday can be linked somehow to religion.
Or banning the words “One nation under God in school’s pledge of allegiance. How is that freedom of speech or religion?
Don’t people realize that keeping God out of schools to please one believe or religion actually persecutes another person’s belief. This is America! If you’re Christian you have the right to be. If you’re Jehovah Witness you too have the God given right. Nobody forces you to say grace when others around you say grace. Nobody forces you to make Christmas Cards or pass out St. Valentines cards. C’mon Christians have the right to their religion too! Our forefathers came to this country to avoid this. Why are we letting it happen again? If my kid wants to say grace he should have that right. Just as much as anyone else has the right not to say grace. America needs to realize that you cannot make everyone happy!
I don’t hate, nor do I even swear but I should have the right to stand out in public and say anything I want. If it’s offensive to anyone, they too should have the right to speak their mind as well. Yes… I’m thinking of Dog the bounty hunter and that Radio guy who were slammed by the media and treated like criminals for saying stuff that was found offensive. Just to clear the air I am part African America. If it was said to me I’d be very angry and say stuff back because it’s our right!
As for another person stating that the 2nd Amendment was not meant for AK-47’s or AR-15’s but for muskets, you’re comment is absurd! If our nation was ever invaded or Americans finally woke up and realized how corrupt our government has become? Do you think we could defend ourselves with muzzle loading muskets, while other countries have modern weapons? I’m sure this reason alone is why our founding fathers kept our 2nd Amendment so vague.
Like I said before our current government is only out to make money. They have little care for the people. Why do you think our boys and girls are still dying in Iraq! Why cigarettes are taxed up to $5.00 a pack! The tax dollars aren’t going to cure cancer. How is it, that anything America enjoys whether it’s smoking, drinking, or what have you. It’s taxed. It’s all about money! Did you guys know that taxes used to be voluntary? That’s right to help pay for the revolutionary war. Much like escaping religious persecution we also left to escape ridiculous British taxation!
Most people believe that the President of the United States is our boss, our leader. He was never supposed to hold so much power. He as well as any other governing official is to work for us. The people! Our voices need to be heard but can’t until people start speaking out for what is right. If Americans had any say our votes would count. How many times have we voted and won where the next year or at times even earlier the governing officials make us vote again and again until they get the vote they want. If you don’t know what I’m talking about think of Same Sex Marriage, Assisted Suicide, etc.
If we actually controlled our country do you think all of our jobs would be going to China? Would our American brothers and sisters be refused medical treatment because they don’t have insurance? Would there still not be a cure for the common cold?
If we could actually decide where out taxed dollars went would we have hunger in America? How many people are involved with the school systems? With all the Trillions of dollars this nation allegedly puts into the schools from taxes including cigarette taxes why are our children using textbooks from the 1980’s. Why are there not enough classrooms for some? Why do schools have to still cut backs? The answer is because they aren’t getting all the money the government says they are.
I better stop here… it’s 1:00AM and I’m tired. I hope this rant doesn’t offend anyone as it’s not my intention.

Bottom line is Obama is going to wage war on gun owners. This will result in approx. 1/4 million jobs lost.(Gunsmiths, Retail stores, Internet operations, shooting ranges, manufacturers, distributors, gun shows, convention centers that hold gun shows…the list is endless. Then lets consider the amount of theft, robbery, carjackings, rape, and kidnappings.) Stop yer bitchin and start supporting the NRA with all the lobbying money you can. Obama wants to hit us hard…hit him back harder, example stop using the US Postal System. They are already teetering on the edge financially. If you cut your usage in half the system would collapse,Federal unemployment would skyrocket, and Obama, being on his watch, takes the blame. Be creative people.Remember Postal has Unions, unions have lobbys…lobbys scratch each others backs. They cause chaos, you cause chaos. But remember this, keep it legal use the system against them.

you might want to look up “sarcasm” in the dictionary
>>problem
>>1) you are confusing poor people with >>criminals.
Not exactly…but the overwhelming majority of violent crimes are committed by individuals below poverty level. so not every poor person is a criminal….but most criminals are poor.
>>The whole criminals wont commit crimes thing >>is so ass backwards Im not even going to >>start on it.
good…you cant recognise sarcasm so you probably should try to respond to it.
>>Also do you think seasoned criminals need >foodstamps?
No, i don’t think they need to rob people either but they do
>>Crime is a PROFIT enterprise just like >>anything else unless its just a crime of >>passion.
I agree, and what is more profitable than the goverment giving you free stuff.
>>Theft, burglery, Robbery, Drug dealing. All >>these things are money makers.
You left out foodstamps, welfare, and other government fraud.
>>I doubt a criminal engaged in these >>activities is going to give up his personal >>motivational boomstick to qualify for a HUD.
Of course not…again, this is sarcasm (have you looked it up yet?) They aren’t going to lay it down because of a law making it illegal either. That’s why the US goverment is missing the mark with their feeble “regulations” and laws that are un-enforceable.
Laws like this are worthless wastes of the political process. They simply do not work.
here’s a few
If you get caught selling drugs, you cannot get student loans anymore.
First, most drug dealers do not care about student loans in the least…and the ones that truly change, cannot use student loans to improve their lives through education. The law does more dammage than good.
If a deadbeat dad cannot pay child support, he is thrown in jail. Now the tax payers have to support him…and his children. If he refuses to pay child support, he is seldom persued by authorities because it is just too expensive to track him down.
In order to punish criminals…take guns away from law-abiding citizens. Of course authorities could never find guns owned by criminals unless the criminals register them.

I would like to say thank you first for the opportunity to speek on such a great website blog such as this it is really great to see so many informed Americans as I have sen on here!!! I wcannot agree more than with Jonathan, RCASteel and several others. We must use legal actions to get the corruption out of our public offices and educate our selfs on all of our candidates before electing them and then continue to follow them after the elections to ensure they are doing what they promised to do. You can rest assured based on Obama’s past records he has done nothing but lied to the American people the entire time and you can rest assured he will take our GOD given rights from us to further his own mean’s. Please American’s wake up and quit being lazy and believing all wil be fine as it wont this country is going to hell in a hand basket because we are so damn POLITICALLY CORRECT!! We are American’s founded on christianity we believe you have the right to do and say whatever you would like as long as you do not prevent me from doing the same. But now we are giving this country to every other nationality but our own which is AMERICAN!!! If people do not like our ways and our language DO NOT COME TO OUR COUNTRY WE DO NOT NEED YOU!!!
I am sorry to rant but the un-informed people trying to persuade the educated ones that I have seen on hear rally pisses me off. To those that are educated(i.e.Jonathan,RCASteel,Martin,Beth of all as it is your site) thank you from the bottom of my heart and please keep spreading the word and knowledge!!!!

Hello to all of you that have made valid points and more importantly, sense. I’m not going to claim that I have stayed completely up to date, nor that I have researched everything as much as humanly possible. Honestly, I don’t watch much of the news anymore nor do I read too many newspapers because I figured out a long time ago that the smart people who have something to say are shut up or paid off. I have very small expectations for the president which is something I never thought I’d say. I was always raised to believe that the good people, in the end, will come out on top and the bad people will get what’s coming to them. But now a days, how are the bad people going to get anything they deserve when the corruption in the government goes so deep there’s no way to tell where it ends. It pains me to say that now, there is no way for the ‘bad’ people to get what’s coming to them when they have friends in high places.
As for the gun ban… I hope people protest. I hope people rally against it, I even hope that people realize they still (for now) have a voice to do so. I don’t own guns, but I was raised in a family that does. My grandfather was an avid collector and when he left on business, a gun in the nightstand was all my 70 yr old grandmother had to protect herself. I never want to know what would happen if her house was broken into and she didn’t have it. People are the ones that have the choice to make good or bad decisions, it has nothing to do with what type of weapon they have. If some one wants to hurt another human being, they’ll find a way. Say they do take away every gun in the entire country, then criminals will have knives. Say they take those away, then there’s baseball bats, then sticks if it comes down to it. You can’t expect criminals or people who want to do harm to care whether or not you take something as simple as guns away from them. They are resourceful enough to find something else.
As for everything else. I’m terrified that one day I’m going to wake up and we’re going to be living in a dictatorship. You can laugh, or insult me for thinking so as much as you want, but as long as good people stay quiet and just ‘roll with the punches’, it is not ‘impossible’ for something like that to happen. If it happens it will be slow. They’ll start by tapping phones, labeling people as terrorists or say they’re guilty of treason. Good men will be shut up or put down and held in camps, and they will start chipping away at the rights we have had for more then 200 years… oh wait…
I’m not anit-America if thats what anyone’s thinking. I love my country and I’m glad I was born and raised here. I’m proud of my husband for being willing to join the military in days like this and I support him as much as he needs. But I do believe something else is brewing, and it won’t be direct, it won’t be overnight. If something is going to happen, it will be subtle, under the radar and when/if it’s presented in the media, it will be phrased in a way that people will think it’ll be something beneficial. The main problem is people don’t think much for themselves anymore, they have to much faith and trust in people they’ve never meant or know anything about. People need to do research, read, look things up. Anything! If you do, make sure you go to multiple sites, don’t take the word of just one. Read as much as possible. The biggest threat to corruption is knowledge. Whether you truly believe what anyone on this site has said or not doesn’t matter. Just look it up. Form your own opinions because for now, that is our right. We are allowed to think for ourselves, so do it. There’s no telling how long it will last. If anyone takes anything away from my post, then take this. Stay informed. Do research. Please, for love of God or whatever you believe, just stay informed.
Thank you for the chance to say something and to those of you who have brought forth points I had not yet heard or considered. Just remember, no matter who you are, where you came from or what you plan on doing in the future, we are all in the same boat, we are all Americans and we should stick together when things go bad. And no matter how nice a person starts out, ‘Absolute Power Corrupts Absolutely’.

I only read part of this artical, but being in the military I want you to know I dont know any service members especially gun owners excited about Obamas presidency. In his defence he is being handed a country in shambles. He is not pro 2nd amenedment, look at his past, if you think he is your an idiot just think about it for a min. I can only pray he leaves the guns alone and gets on what is really important OUR economy, were going to need money if we have a repeat of 911, and right now we are trying to cut down our military and that is completly insane. I think we are at our weakest and we are only making it worse by shelling out all this money to all these corperations which is complete bullsh*t. with all the brains running around in the white house we are still failing as a country lets fix the country and then worry about pittly crap such as any thing that does not have to do with us heading into another depression.

I guess Obama was right about people ‘clinging to their guns.’
Amazing. I still have my guns and I haven’t been relocated to a concentration camp. Our Muslim president who won’t wear a flag lapel pin was sworn in to office on a Bible while wearing a US flag lapel pin.
You people are real wingnuts.

Way to go you gun rights freaks for spreading the fear about Obama and gun control. You now have the blood of three Pittsburgh police officers on your hands. One of your own gunned them down. Something about prying them out of his dead fingers?….

This is the exact reason why a safety and health policy is so important.

With this current congress and president you better get all your gun licenses ASAP before they take all our rights away.
