A couple of interesting things have happened since the media has declared Barack Obama our next President. One is that the economy took a nose dive. The other is that gun sales have skyrocketed. The gun sales could have something to do with Obama’s gun control policy. Read about it below.
The Second Amendment of the Constitution of the United States guarantees citizens the right to keep and bear arms.
A well regulated Militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed.
The right of the people of the United States to bear arms has been discussed in every way shape and form, but the Constitution is very clear about it. A smaller Federal government has enabled States, districts and cities to decide for themselves whether or not they will uphold the Constitution or infringe on those rights to one degree or another. The results of ‘gun control’ have been very clear to anyone willing to see it. Those areas that restrict law abiding citizens from owning guns have the highest violent crime rates in the country, while areas that allow citizens to own guns are relatively free of gun crime.
But the discourse on the Second Amendment is rarely rational and free of emotionally driven hyperbole.
Barack Obama’s gun control policy, or should I write anti-gun record is long and informative:
- 1994 to 2001 – Obama was on the board of the anti-gun Joyce Foundation. This foundation is the largest funding source for radical anti-gun groups in the country.
- 1996 – Obama supported a ban on the manufacture, sale and possession of handguns.
- 1999 – Obama proposed a 500 percent increase in the excise taxes on firearms and ammunition. This tax would effectively punish gun owners for buying guns and ammunition.
- 2003 – Obama voted in support of legislation that would have banned privately owned hunting shotguns, target rifles and black powder rifles in Illinois.
- 2004 – Obama voted against legislation intended to protect homeowners from prosecution in cases where they used a firearm to halt a home invasion.
Barack Obama now claims he is not anti-gun ownership. His campaign has put out statements saying he supports law abiding citizens’ right to own certain types of guns used for particular purposes. In fact, his campaign says that he’ll uphold the Second Amendment. His voting record belies what he now claims, that as President he would be no threat to American gun owners.
Just a few months ago, the Supreme Court shot down the D.C. gun ban. It was a 5-4 decision. What would it have been with Obama appointing Justices to the Supreme Court?
Its hard to trust a man will uphold the Constitution when he very recently stated that the Constitution is fundamentally flawed.
With all of that in mind, is it any wonder that gun sales are up by 25%? I don’t know about you, but this Annie’s gonna get her gun.

The economy took a dive because of the lazzy faire policies of geo w bushy who refused to regulate the increasing partying wallstreet and big banks while dumping more punch into the low interest punchbowl for these “people” to make even bigger bets and a giant bad a bubble. It wasn’t barak obama, though he will soon get his chance to. For black people guns are a real problem if any of you have taking a sunday ride through the hood lately or if your a small fast food mart and the like. For white ranchers guns are less likely a problem. For suburbanites and urbanites guns are problematic but the powers that be have allowed them guns so far. Is our constitution flawed? We do know some of our forefathers were, brilliant though they may be. So yes there are some problems there as our nation has evolved and grown way crowded and developed electricity, cars, industry, post industry, cell phones and ipods and iphones and been invaded by huge throngs of illegal immigrants and wall street has been allowed to plunder both the people and the taxpayer and continue to pay itself huge bonuses that could feed millions of families. I think our problems go a lot deeper than obama frankly.

There is no doubt that Obama as President, would act quickly to attack the 2nd Amendment and disarm law-abiding Americans as soon as possible.
There’s no way Obama can accomplish his Socialist Agenda of redistributing wealth & assets, unless he disarms us first.
Americans will fight for their Freedom, their hard-earned income, their hard earned property – IF they are able to fight.
Only if we are disarmed, will Obama be able to seize our 401k’s and other assets, and raise our Income Tax & Payroll tax to take from the Middle & Upper classes, to redistribute as Obama sees fit.
November 2nd, 2008 at 11:37 pm
we are already disarmed when you consider the power of a SWAT team and joint police, US marshalls, and atf ice and all sorts of ad hoc teams that are frequently brought together to do a “job” and the laws and courts that will protect it afterwards.
November 2nd, 2008 at 11:40 pm
MaxGrobnik – therein lies Obama’s problem. Disarming the American public would be pretty near impossible. Most American’s are gun owners. Many (if not most) have small arsenals in their homes. The only way a dictator can take control is to disarm – and I’m pretty sure they’d have to go house to house to do that and they’d run out of people willing to go house to house pretty quickly.
So – his hopes for the changes he wants to make are pie in the sky. It just won’t happen.

I don’t see any massive gun reform, with the exception of keeping assult weopons out of people’s hands which is a good idea if you ask me. Some 22 year old idiot just machined gunned his walls and killed a trick or treater and wounded another. This kid literally shot an ak47 through the front of his house many times at a kid and dad walking up his sidewalk to his front door. Imagine the mentality of such a person? How would they even occupy the house after that? Our cities don’t need that. There were no machine guns when the 2nd amendment was written so they didn’t know there would be a big problem down the road. But what obama could do is require a federal firearms safety test(both written and practical), register the owners as having passed knowing their addresses then, possibly register the firearm, even bullet purchases, and demand proof of gun safes, gun lock’s etc and basically nickly and dime ownership to the bitter ends. You could argue this is more responible ownership, or that criminals certainly won’t do this. In a perfect world you would want people to learn safety and how to operate such a thing as half firearm fatalities are guns stolen or turned against their owners, domestic disputes, and accidents. Not everyone is suited to use a firearm and we aren’t farmers on the ranch surrounded by prey and predators anymore with single shot muzzle loading guns. They didn’t even have cartridge weopons in that day.

Someone mentioned illegals. Did you see the news article on obama’s relatives still here illegally, even after being ordered by the INS to leave? I’ll bet that reporter will be added to the list of reporters not allowed to cover another obama event.
About that “kid” that actually turns out to be 22, there was mention of an ak47, and machine gun. Did the reporter mention how he legally got a class III license from the government? Or maybe it really wasn’t really a machine gun. For the obama/brady supporter that posted about this, you would already know that class III weapons already require federal permission, registration, taxes, etc.
As for obama fixing anything in this country, if he has to lie about his support for the 2nd amendment, and already infringing on the first amendment, how can anybody believe what he says about anything else? Is it because if he say so, and his web site says so, it must be true? Check out his actual record, see how he actually voted, what he avoided voting on, and his actual accomplishments (NONE). Has everyone forgot about his associates, that he is temporarily avoiding? What about his contributors, such as George Soros, freddie mac, fannie mae, and foreigners interested in a weak america?

First off, how can the economy have taken a nose dive, and weapons sales are up after Obama declared the winner ? He was declared the winner at 11pm central. I don’t know of any gun shops open around that time. In CA it would have been earlier, but I suspect they dont have 24 hr gun shops. What a bunch of crap. Come on people, we have a chance to get things right. Lets give the man a shot.
November 5th, 2008 at 3:12 am
Kevin – this post was written a couple of days ago – gun sales have been up by 25% since Obama has been ahead in the polls. That is a fact.
November 5th, 2008 at 4:19 am
in the last century of the last millenium 110 million people were murdered by governments gone bad. these are U>N statistics.
keep in mind now that four US presidents were sworn members of the KU KLUX KLAN, while they were in office .. what stopped them from implementing an agenda that was Klan based …..AN ARMED POPULATION>>>>>>THE PEOPLE THEY WOULD HAVE ROUNDED UP FOR EXTERMINATION WERE ARMED !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
November 5th, 2008 at 6:56 am
Obama has been a moderate on gun control his entire career. Its pretty funny that you think he wants to disarm the American people… honestly… I’m laughing at you right now. I am a sportsman, and the proud owner of an assault rifle.
November 5th, 2008 at 7:41 am
Just remember WHY the 2ed Amendment is in place. It’s not to hunt or target practice! It’s there that if the government should go out of control and a guy like Obama, takes over in the form of a dictator, that the citizens can shoot back if their freedoms are threatened!
I didn’t vote for Obama but he is our President and I respect that. I predict he’ll either be the greatest politician to occupy the White House or a disaster! There are no in betweens with this guy!
November 5th, 2008 at 9:18 am
I live in a small town of about 800 people and there are well over 2000 guns in homes of these 800 people. There has never been an incident of violence involving guns. i am a sportsman and have no problem putting restrictions on assault rifles and i believe every gun owner should have to take some sort of safety coursse before purchasing a firearm. However, he did vote on banning personally owned shotguns and muzzleloaders, What is someone going to do with a muzzleloader????? true danger comes with criminals illegally buying guns out of a trunk. Not with the honest american sportsman
November 5th, 2008 at 12:13 pm
If you ever thought of owning a gun you better buy it now. Obam the socilist will take them away, lokk who his vice president is they are both antigun. He will tax everything so high law abiding citizens will not be able to afford guns or ammunition. This is very scary especially since he is already sensoring the media about certain things. Just remeber America when things go down hill you voted him in. Congradulations on all you lazy non christians you got the best candidate for yourselves.
November 5th, 2008 at 12:15 pm
Cody keep telling yourself that. Enjoy hunting this year. You might not be able to afford ammunition next year.
November 5th, 2008 at 1:22 pm
I too am a sportsman, but let’s leave that alone for a minute. If restrictions are placed on gun ownership or taxes are levied to discourage legal gun purchases, criminals will still obtain guns ILLEGALLY…remember, they’re criminals! So why should I, a law abiding, tax paying citizen not be allowed to protect myself, my family and my property because thugs or idiots misuse firearms? It makes no sense. Truly, guns don’t kill people. Idiots and criminals kill people that usually aren’t armed themselves.
November 5th, 2008 at 2:40 pm
[…] stance on gun control is not constitutional. Surprise. He supported legislation to ban the manufacture, sale, and […]
November 5th, 2008 at 3:29 pm
First off to Cody, your are a complete douche. You obviously don’t read the facts. You might as well be laughing at yourself as well because like js said, enjoy hunting this year because when you have to max out your credit cards and take out a second mortgage on your house for a single hunting trip next year, you’ll be crying instead of laughing and I’ll be laughing at you. I also very much agree whti JUSTIN in that EVERY American who wants to own a firearm should have to take a safety class and pass background and compitence checks prior to the purchase of any firearm. It’s the idiots that have the right but not the common sense that end up shooting themselves or friends or family members accidentaly that ruin it for the rest of the legitimate public. But the truth is that no matter what laws or bans get passed, the criminals will still be able to get their hands on any guns they want. You can register guns to the fullest extent with fingerprinting, background checks, I wouldn’t be surprised if they put DNA sampling in there too, etc. but that won’t account for the millions of guns that are on the streets illegally. It’s not law abiding citizens that are murdering people in robberies or shoot outs, it’s the criminals. I do agree that some restriction is necessary to ensure that guns don’t end up in the hands of criminals or stupid people but an all out ban is ridiculous. Obama stateed that an assault rifle serves the lone purpose of killing people. That’s untrue. Everybody has different hobbies. I’m a musician that plays guitar, bass, drums, and keyboard. Music is my hobby. Some peoples’ hobby is to load up their arsenal and blow the s#@t out of empty soda cans. As long as they’re doing so responsibly and teaching their children responsible gun handling and ownership, they have as much right to shoot a pumpkin with a full auto SKS as I do to strum my 6 string. Obama also wants to ban concealed carry. You have to be clean as a whistle to be approved for a concealed carry. I know because I have one. He also claims that he intends to close “loop holes” in some of our current gun control policies. Let me tell you something about loopholes. A murderer can walk away a free man because of one little technicality like an illegal search. I realize that we as Americans have rights but under certain circumstances a police officer should reserve the right to make a judgment call. I know of a case where one guy shot another and was seen by a witness. The witness called 911 and the police found him and the murder weapon which was confirmed by ballistics testing. Because the search was ruled as an illegal search the murder walked. If Obama wants to fix loopholes he needs to start with our criminal justice system that is supposed to be in place to protect the citizens of this country.
November 5th, 2008 at 5:11 pm
I completely agree with edward about criminals and [edited to idiots] that shoot people. Obama is a liar and will try to disarm the american public before its too late for anyone to stop him. I just really hope we can get through these miserable next four years and get back to republican control.
November 6th, 2008 at 8:13 am
You people sound as crazy as over-zealous religionites. Seriously, what world do you people live in? If you’d be too lazy to protest a strict gun control policy then you deserve to be disarmed. So quit whining like little children and buck up. We have a large number of items and a small table right now so why would gun control even be anywhere near first in line? It’s not like as soon as a president is sworn in all of his/her policies are enacted… you guys… are too much
November 6th, 2008 at 12:39 pm
Oye-
You obviously don’t understand what a cascade of events is. First they take away our right to arms because they say that the constitution was not written for our time. Next they take away our free speech because they say that the constitution was not written for our time. It’s the domino effect. Do you actually believe thay they’ll stop at guns? Next they’ll say that a swiss army knife is a concealed deadly weapon. You come in to this blog and insult everyone’s educated opinions with your schoolyard level comebacks because you have the RIGHT to. If we let them trample one amendment what’s to stop them from slowly hacking at another? Can you imagine a USA that would outlaw blogs such as this because of an excuse like “it’s not morally right” or “it’s lowering the morale in our country” when all in all they’re just slowly taking away our rights? And who says I’m too lazy to protest? If Obama tries to extend his reach beyond the threshold of my home, I will be the first to protest with my gun openly holstered at my side because I have the RIGHT to. If you don’t agree with what we’re saying then come in and state an educated opinion and make your case, otherwise SHUT UP! Our fundamental rights should always be priority one. The world in which I live is the real world. You should take a day off and visit us some time although your eyes may experience some discomfort since you have obviously never used them before.
November 6th, 2008 at 2:28 pm
Even if Obama does not push gun control legislation, do you think that he will veto anything that Pelosi and Reid put through Congress and place on Obama’s desk?
