Obama has said that he plans the creation of a Civilian National Security Force. Read about what that might mean and a video below.

Barack Obama has promised a lot of things in the two years and millions upon millions of dollars he has spent campaigning for the Presidency of the United States. One of the things he recently promised is to build up the military. That, of course, is at complete odds with other promises he made and the fact that the democratic Congress is even now planning military cuts for when they think they’ll have a super majority in the House, Senate and Administration. Whatever, right now he says that’s what he’s going to do.
Another promise is that he is going to create a ‘Civilian National Security Force’ that will be as well funded and as strong as our military.
“We cannot continue to rely only on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives that we’ve set,� he said Wednesday. “We’ve got to have a civilian national security force that’s just as powerful, just as strong, just as well funded.�
As Little Green Footballs points out, that would mean a trillion (TRILLION) dollar budget for our defense. That’s pretty big bucks, even for Obama.
The question is, what exactly will the Civilian National Security Force do? Another question is, who will serve in this force? Since Obama doesn’t bother with specifics or detailing his plans, we are left to fill in the blanks for ourselves.
Perhaps this will be the public service that he says he expects everyone to participate in who receive public funds to go to college or for any of the innumerable other freebies he’s offering. So, if you get money to live on while sitting on your sofa eating bonbons and watching soap operas, you will have to go to boot camp and learn how to polish a bronze bell repeatedly till it pleases your Drill Sergeant.
Will this force take the place of Americorp? Maybe it will take the place of the National Guard or the Border Patrols? Will it become the modern day version of State Militias? Or will it be more on the lines of the Sturmabteilung? Whose security will be protected and what kind of force will be required?
So many questions and so few answers.
It might come as a surprise to all those who are thrilled at the magnanimous gifts that Obama is offering to virtually everyone that there might not be a string, but a rope attached to those benefits. Even for those who don’t pay taxes. Nothing is free. Someone pays. With all that Obama is offering, he’d have to take virtually all the income of the working class to pay for it. Unless, of course, he made those who receive the benefits work for the government to pay off their debt.
So its a two-fer, Socialized America with all the freebies coupled with the Communist doctrine of working for the government - for the common good. Wait a minute! Wouldn’t that be like the government employing all the people and doling out pay as the government sees fit? I thought the government, our government, was created to work FOR the people! Not the people working FOR the government!
Under a system like that, all the power would be centralized in one place … Barack Obama’s office.
He really should explain all this so we don’t have to fill in the blanks because the blanks aren’t looking so good to this already over taxed American worker.

This is EXACTLY what Hugo Chavez did in Venezuela and what Castro did in Cuba. Google the phrase “ACORN members” and then Google the term “Chavez supporters.” Red shirts, red caps, red agendas.

Exactly WHY would this “Civilian National Security Force” have to be as powerful and as well equipped as the standing army?
Who exactly does he plan to fight with this force?
While we do have enemies in our midst (9/11 proved that!) these are the kinds of enemies more readily dealt with using the existing resources of the FBI and regular law enforcement when it’s within our own borders.
Last I heard, the FBI doesn’t typically require helicopter gunships and tanks to arrest Al Quaeda members found in this country.

You will want to be in style and might look into what gold chains and bracelets are in vogues.

What is this “Civilian National Security” sounds like a left wing private army. But could develop into just a bunch of left wing “brown shirts” like Hitler had at his disposal. If (and we will soon know) Obama is elected. He will be fast in consolidating his power. So look for congress and he to act fast in the first part of 2009. They will declare each of us who speak out the enemy of Him and His policies. They will go to great lengths to shut us up. God help you if you live in a neighborhood of Obama supporters and attempt to voice your opinion. But on the national stage they will reenact the “fairness doctrine” and worse. Yes we will be in for the shock of our lives.

What do you think the 2nd amendment is for. To protect the American people from our own Government doing just this. Obama is like Stalin, Hitler, Mussolini, Castor, Chevez. Just to name a few. What is wrong with the Americans voting for Obama. Have they no sence of what he is about. Are we to become a Muslim country as Obama will stand with. This is what his own words are. Iraq is only rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic. Bush is negotiating now whether or not we will have troops there. The Shiites do not want them there, and they will be the final word. We will probably be there in name only status. But remember with Obama’s plans for a “Civilian Security” force with a budget similar to our military we will have other problems. The war in Afghanistan and Pakistan are heating up and we will be having no army here to protect this country from forces like he is proposing. Where will he recruit his standing army? The prison system? The street gangs where will he get these “patriots” will they come from his new share the wealth programs. He gives them a new ride, and they give him their loyalty. I am very worried about this man. He is a very radical person, wrapped in sheep’s clothing. I feel we will see his true agenda unfold in early 2009. You will see the rolling back of a lot of freedoms we now have. Beware!
Obama, is a politician just like McCain, but the difference is that Republicans have traditionally increased defense spending and supported a strong military. The Left has not. They are throwing the military out of San Francisco. The latest in the ROTC. Obama can say anything and can turn on a dime after the election. Unfortunately, the congress just may get a complete blank check this time around. We will be the closest to a one party government for the first time. All they need is 66% to shut out opposition.

Geez, let’s not get paranoid. Maybe he’s looking at national service as many European countries do. Youth contribute by serving in the military or in civilian capacities, e.g., working in clinics or schools or in infrastructure building and repair. At least he’s not talking about making it compulsory.

kathy, I do think the media has been sympathetic to obama, but why be surprised as we are all witnessing the immense power the media has carved out for itself in our society since the television age. The media is really a big power center in American culture and remember almost all of the American media is funded by corporations. They create a national conciousness. If you want something different go short wave radio and listen to some of the religious stations where you will hear different news with a different emphasis that will surprise you if you want to know a lot more about our country and world. I knew nothing of the mexican american truck corridor and pending legislation in congress until I listened. Its a big world out there and our media covers it through its own peculiar pecuniary lens. You have journalists controlled by editors controlled by publishers controlled by corporations and the government(if you want access and easy copy).

Why does this not have more people concerned?
Let’s see. We have the military, we have the FBI, CIA, Secret Service, U . S. Marshall, Local police and sheriff and then the state guard.
So why would we need a civilian national security force unless Obama has plans not yet revealed.
I know it sound paranoid but even you on the left should scratch your head and consider the possibility of taking control of every aspect of our lives and therefore needing spies to report us when we don’t do what the O says.
This sounds to me like a load of more crap from Obama. He is a great speaker and can get people to believe him. But words and intentions are not the same as actions and results. You guys on the left forget the action and result part.
Obama will never get most of the policies he has talked about passed into law. Because the dems in the congress that are up for relection in 2010 don’t want to be a part of his tax and spend legacy.
But McCain will win. Obama will go back to the Senate and will fade into the woodwork and lose in 2010. He will then become the head of ACORN. That is where his real talent and record is anyway.

We on the right actually think on our own and don’t drink kool-aide. We know when our leaders are full of crap and we call them out on it. We don’t cover up and make excuses for them. And then re-elect them.

For all the Change and Hope and Hope and Change we have heard we need for the last 2 years, it is looking like him cabinet will be a bunch of rejects from the house and senate and people from Clinton’s 8 years.
You see, he is selling you a bunch of lies. He is no different then any politician.
Maybe what he meant was, we will be hoping for some change (nickels, dimes, quarters) when we are all out of work. That has to be it.
Because the cabinet looks like the same old worn out ideas. Nothing new coming guys.

“Just as well funded,” does not mean “equal in funding.” You guys need to take off your tin foil hat and chill. Obama is not Chavez. He’s not even FDR. He’s just not conservative, which is why he’s winning–because the conservative brand got tarnished by some folks who, actually, are not genuinely conservative.
What Obama is talking about is a massive jobs program that can potentially help kids fund college like the GI Bill. I know a family who lost 2 years on their kids’ college savings–two years. There are many like them, and they would most likely be the beneficiaries of this. And guess what? They are supporting Obama.
The coming leftward shift in America is our just desserts for abandoning conservative principles. Instead of focusing on stupid, paranoid theories, it might be more productive to talk about why any government training program is cost effective compared to, say, lower taxes on small businesses.

you write as though you’ve accessed specifics as to the nature of what obama’s plan will entail; are you with the campaign? if not, and you found the explication in the public record, i’d love a link to the source.
fyi: in washington, “as well funded” does indeed refer to absolute dollar levels.
fyfi: obama goes into depth on his website w/r/t the funding of college educations for all americans by the government…and nowhere in this expensive (and expensive) plan does he indicate that the civilian security force would be one of its components.
i’ll be waiting for that link…

Obama plans to destroy the economy by taxing and destroying small business, raising minimum wages, unionizing any industry left standing and establishing an energy plan which will result in higher prices and cause mass inflation.
When he has brought the American worker to their knees then the Govt. steps in and takes over nearly everything. His associations and this Civilian Force should be signs that he plans to move beyond socialism.
