Meet Wendy Button, the Obama speechwriter who left her party for John McCain. She cites negative attacks by Obama and sexism for her switch from Obama to McCain. See her pictures and biography here.
Wendy Button
Ms. Button was particularly upset with the way first Hillary Clinton, and later Sarah Palin, was attacked in subtly sexist ways by her Democrat bosses. She noticed what many objectively-minded Americans are noticing, which is that the lines of attack on these brilliant women politicians would never have been attempted against a man. She put her principles before party and bolted.
I can no longer justify what this party has done and can’t dismiss the treatment of women and working people as just part of the new kind of politics. It’s wrong and someone has to say that. And also say that the Democratic Party’s talking points—that Senator John McCain is just four more years of the same and that he’s President Bush—are now just hooker lines that fit a very effective and perhaps wave-winning political argument…doesn’t mean they’re true. After all, he is the only one who’s worked in a bipartisan way on big challenges.
[See the complete explanation of Obama's tactics she abhors.]
As a biography, She has been a speechwriter for Barack Obama and Michelle Obama right up until recent weeks. She was earlier a writer for John Kerry and John Edwards. Later for Hillary Clinton before joining the Obama campaign. She graduated from the prestigious Bennington College with an MFA degree in writing. Wendy resides in Washington D.C.
Wendy Button lived and worked her whole adult life as a passionate Democrat. No more. An epiphany of sorts overtook her as she watched her male leaders ferociously attacking leading women politicians in the United States and average working citizens who cling to their guns and Joe the Plumbers.
As a writer in her own right, Ms. Button has been an occasional contributor to the Huffington Post where she has her own standing column. In her last column there on September 17th, the interesting title seems to cryptically reveal the emotions running through her head at the time.
Wendy Button is for John McCain, a revelation that has Obama insiders shaking their heads in stunned disbelief and the blogs buzzing. Her decision has been met with what has become customary but tiring anger from Obama supporters. She has set her Facebook page to private to prevent hate comments.
The Obama campaign has so far not commented on her defection. See photos below.

Ok, there are bound to be defections to McCain. But she is only one, and there have been many more “defections” to Obama.
If I were a Republican, I would be asking, “What’s the real story here? What do we really know about Wendy? What is her real secret that she doesn’t want anyone to know about as to why she defected?”
October 29th, 2008 at 3:24 pm
Yes, she left by principle due to unfair attacks on one group of citizens so that she could join the Republican machine in order to attack, with foaming at the mouth intent, another group. Now she certainly has much more intent on assailing the intelligence of her fellow Americans with McCain’s hate-filled, misinformation-filled, demagogue speeches.
Yes, nice move indeed Wendy. The McCain ticket would have attacked anyone in its way with the same kind of hideous dishonorable tactics. If it ever gets the chance, it may certainly be women next.

Andy2, I think she pretty clearly states why she defected. Why not take her word for it?
And there have been other defections in the Democratic party as well.
Would you say the same thing about Colin Powell? What’s the real story there? What’s the real secret about why he defected?

I read last night that she was a Hillary Clinton Speech Writer. Not an Obama Writer.
She was one of the many Hillary people who fell in line after she was defeated. So to say that she is an Obama speechwriter is just wrong and dishonest.
She never was.

She couldnt have possibly defected the Anointed one for that reason alone. He is the almighty. The left wing couldnt have possibly said anything bad about Palin for no reason or smear the “clinging to god and guns” folks. Why Obama couldnt have meant that. There must obviously be something wrong with this lady. Lets run a background check like we did on Joe the Plumber. We dont need the truth here folks, now move on.

Wake up America…Obama or McCain?
There is also a 3rd choice.
Research Bob Barr on Google…
Research the electoral college on Google or Wikipedia…
Then ask your self why you only have 2 choices…
What you don’t know can hurt you…

She isn’t serious, is she? Oh boo hoo. She sounds like what a McCain aid said about Sarah Palin. A whack job.
Joe the Plumber is a LIAR, Wendy.
This is an election. It gets a little heated.
Certainly Ms. Button isn’t claiming McCain is running a positive campaign??? Is She!??!
Sounds like you need a thicker skin. How long before you defect back after hanging out with the McCain/Palin team?
What a joke.

Whats silly is you don’t hear about this in the mainstream media. All you hear are the ones switch from McCain to Obama and not the other way around. The american public is getting hosed in this election by the media bias.

Based on most of the posts here, it’s obvious that the Obama attack machine is in good working order. (Isn’t this why Wendy split from the Dems?) The ONE cannot be wrong, so all that disagree are “defective” in some manner.
Attack, attack, attack and then blame the competition for attacking – - typical lib SOP.
Expect the lib rhetoric to rise to new heights as the poll spread narrows. The libs are becoming frantic.
Remember, Carter, Gore and Kerry were all going to win – - – according to the polls.
Welcome to the “light” Wendy. The “Dark side” has lost one of it’s minions.
Something to see..

Wendy Button is a delusional “speech writer,” who could not get a job, and got pissed off. She’s borderline dangerous. Another great Republican spokesperson!

It’s interesting how few people see the propoganda in the Democratic candidate. He may be for change but his sort of change has been the fall of many a society. Perhaps we must consider what happens when the propoganda leads to deeper recession and more difficult times. Everyone will blame any of the trouble of the next eight years on the Bush administration but will they then step back and wonder if perhaps the trouble of the prior eight years were a result of the Clinton administration. Emotional decisions will not help the United States fight for recovery from a long coming societal decline. We’ve been on the verge for longer than we know. The potential Robin Hood Obama claims to be could end badly, all of McCains military honor and experience could fail to end the war. Why not help your neighbor, vote your concious and shut of the faucet of blame. Brace yourselves, my friends, the change to come may not be what anyone expects and then we’ll need to be understanding and compassionate towards one another if the US is to recover.

Joe the Plumber lied about his name is the biggest piece of ignorant smear ever. His name is Samuel Joesph, so where’s the lie???? Smearing his intentions about buying a business or anything else has nothing to do with OBama’s socialist statement!
This is your future of you ever question an OBama presidency, a fascist state, that will smear you and try to destroy you. THey are already trying to destroy Wendy.

Actually not true: John Kerry was not ahead. Democrats just convinced themselves that he was. Check the data.

Hi I just read your message about how you have no health care now. I live in Florida and my family (3 people) my husband, daughter and myself are paying $1150 a month for health care! I own a small business and we also pay for my brother in law, his wife and 2 kids. The 8 of us are paying $2050 a month for health insurance for the 8 of us! We are upset that no plan exists that we can afford but can’t afford to let it lapse either with all the pre existing conditions ect that are in place now. So I am just going through trying to reduce my plan with blue cross/blue shield that I have now, and they won’t call me back for a week! So I am being held hostage for my insurance premiums 2 months at a time! So maybe that $550 a month or so for you is comparable to what I have….and there is no relief in sight.
