Video now below.
The Barack Obama Infomercial video and transcript are below just as soon as the 1/2 hour commercial is shown on network television on October 29th 2008. An advanced copy will be posted as available, so check back below, and we will have a live-feed video as available. The infomercial airs at 8pm in all timezones on MSNBC, NBC, Fox, and CBS at $1 million a pop. CNN, ABC, and FoxNews refused to carry it, with the CNN network labeling it inappropriate propaganda for a news network.
Meanwhile, we have some information on the contents of Obama’s “infomercial” below which touts his economics plan. Consider this an open live-blogging opportunity to share your thoughts about the epic commercial, hear blogger reactions, and better understand the Obama economics plan that is presented. The “Obama half-hour” has delayed the World Series for 30 minutes, a prospect openly mocked by Senator John McCain. But the Obama TV show must go on, as they say.
In the ad, Obama makes the case for his economic “redistribution” plan, a term he decided this week to embrace rather than shun. At the core of the commercial is the largest recession era tax increase since Herbert Hoover.
Obama plays to voters in the infomercial by calling it a tax decrease to most voters plus a tax increase to the fatcats on top. The net result is one of the largest tax increases on the American economy in history, and the first tax increase attempted during a recession in 76 years.
In 1932, Herbert Hoover pushed through a tax increase in the heart of the depression on “rich” taxpayers, in the “Economic Recovery Act” of that year. At that time the median household income was $1,000 annually. Like Obama’s economics plan, Hoover’s tax increase applied to only the top brackets making more than $4,000 per year, or roughly 4x the median income. This would be equivalent today to an Obama’s tax increase affecting only households making $200,000 and above, or 4x the national median.
What happened then is now something that all economists agree upon. The increase was a disaster that served to deepen the depression into a new phase of despair. The few companies that were making money laid off even more workers. Unemployment rose. Incomes fell. The economic disaster was deepened and prolonged.
Somebody should have told Obama before he aired an ill-fated infomercial / commercial that proposes throwing oil on fire. You do not raise aggregate taxes during a recession, and then call it a tax decrease for 95% of Americans. Obama’s proposed tax decrease to lower income Americans does nobody any good when they are laid off from work.
As an aside, there is perhaps some irony to a presidential candidate championing Robin Hood virtues while rolling in money himself. Meanwhile ABCNews, which decided not to air the Obama TV spot, wonders if anyone will be watching.
Nevermind the socialist implications of Obama’s infomercial which argues that moving incomes from one worker to another is patriotic. That is an entirely different discussion which Marxists and Capitalists have conducted for a hundred years. Economists had considered the argument over, but now we have a candidate running on a platform of heretofore unspecified “change.” Now that we know specifics, the economics policy and tax proposal seems socialist and radical to many.
So join us for live-blogging the Obama infomercial, which begins at the 8pm time. See the live-feed below, video and transcript as available on October 29th, and join the discussion. All viewpoints welcome.
Obama Infomercial (Video)
Transcript: (Partial Closing Remarks)
OBAMA: “We’ve seen over the last eight years how decisions by a president can have a profound effect on the course of history and on American lives; much that’s wrong with our country goes back even farther than that. We’ve been talking about the same problems for decades and nothing is ever done to solve them. For the past 20 months, I’ve traveled the length of this country, and Michelle and I have met so many Americans who are looking for real and lasting change that makes a difference in their lives.”
Full transcript will be provided on Wednesday.

“delayed the World Series for 30 minutes”
As I understand it (and I could be wrong) there will be no delay. We will just miss the pre-game discussion (or 30 minutes of it).
October 28th, 2008 at 8:31 pm
I’ve been saying for a month now that Obama is just repeating the failed policies of the 30s that lead to the depression.
Theres always some schmuck that thinks he can change the description of insanity and actually make it work.
“To do the same thing over and over and expect different results each time.”

I suppose he had to do it when the World Series was supposed to start so that he would get a guaranteed audience. But wouldn’t ppl looking for the World Series be pretty mad about listening to him - talk about throwing a wet blanket on the game!
Every time he does one of these egocentric victory laps he falls in the polls (ie: speaking in Germany, his Presidential Seal). Hopefully, this will have the same effect.

lisab lisab - I doubt it!
For someone who supposedly ran on uniting us, he certainly has done a good job of the opposite. If he is elected, I fear for our nation.

I wont watch it.
I’m afraid there will be subliminal messages weaved into it and I’ll wake cross eyed and go vote for him.

The only ones who will watch will be Obama’s adoring sheep.
Baa Baa Barack Sheep…

Actually, this is not what the adbuy is going to be about. It will be more conversations with voters he has met on the campaign trail along with comments from people like Colin Powell who have endorsed him. At the end will be a live feed from his rally in Florida tonight. What you have posted here as the closing remarks will actually be at the beginning. More info about the adbuy can be found at http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/10/28/obamas-prime-time-tv-comm_n_138767.html which states:

Barack Obama’s 30-minute informercial airing Wednesday night will feature vignettes of people and families whom Obama has met during his nearly two-year campaign, and it will include a live component from a campaign rally in Florida, campaign sources said tonight.
“Barack Obama: American Stories” is the name of the unusual telecast that will air on network television and some cable stations. It comes on a busy day, as Obama also is set to appear on “The Daily Show With Jon Stewart” and to cap the night with another rally, in Orlando, with former President Bill Clinton, timed to make the late-night news broadcasts in the Eastern and Central time zones.
Campaign aides promise a livelier show than when Ross Perot sat behind a desk for half an hour, the last time a presidential candidate bought a block of prime time television.
Obama sources say we’re likely to see Obama at the top of the half hour program and at the bottom of the show talking about his agenda.
However the rest of the time you might see other people, like a Warren Buffett or a Colin Powell, and other people the Obama campaign calls “validators” to give testimony on why Americans should vote for Obama.

As for the world series - It was ALWAYS slated to start at 8:37 just as the rest of the games have started. Fox made a ‘business decision’ to carry the adbuy as it would draw more viewers than the pre-game show. As for ABC - they did not DECLINE to carry the adbuy…Obama did not offer it to them. CNN, however did refuse it.
This site would do better to check its facts before reporting total nonsense.

All this reminds me of is that movie “The Ring”
If you stare at the “O” too long, shortly after that you will get a phone call from an Obamanite telling you that you have 7 days to live if you dont check off the Bama box in six days.
Mass hypnosis.
People will be walking the streets like the living dead asking for change until the 4th.
From what it sounds like Scott this is an presumptive wrap up giving credit to those responsable for his win.
I wonder if he’ll throw a Kanye West fit if he doesnt win.
If he does win it might be more like Sally Fields.
“You love me, you really really love me”

He is promising everything anyone could ever want, yet has no idea how our gov’t is run. It’s all pie in the sky with him….
He has not addressed the issues I believe necessary ….he sounds like the guy proposing to a future wife, knowing full well he will abuse the hell out of her, and break every promise made….because his ego is so out of control.
October 29th, 2008 at 4:23 pm
What’s the deal? Is it available online or not? And where? Hasn’t showed up here yet.
October 29th, 2008 at 4:36 pm
Pitiful. Downright pitiful performance.
October 29th, 2008 at 4:53 pm
I didnt/wont watch it.
I can barely make it 30 seconds into any of his stumps as it is.
I always feel like my intelligence is being taunted and ridiculed and I’m not even as smart as I’d like to be.
Did he have anything new to say ?
October 29th, 2008 at 4:58 pm
Not a word…just added more freebies if you elect him. Hell…he may have promised to cure athletes foot, but I night have misunderstood that.

Totally completely utterly worthless.

Come on. Tax cuts to the middle class? You mean tax cuts to the dumb and lazy. Why should people earning less than $200k be entitled to homes and health care? Those “people” are lucky we allow them in this country at all.

Reminds me of why I vote. McCain’s time is past.

I find it sad that you all cannot see the amazing charisma and character in Obama. He is in it for us, Americans. You continue to make slaps and cuts, and it continues to do nothing. You will see, the Obama administration and his presidency will bring America back. He has the leadership to unite all of us, even those who are so cynical. You will need to accept the fact that he will become president, and you will accept the fact and learn to belive in him, when our country make a paradigm shift and comes back in full force. You will see. I am soory for you all that you are so spiteful and upset. There is nothing to dislike about his plan versus McCains. they both have holes…Obama’s happens to have way less. I can only hope that you all find it within yourself and unite for America - even if you hate the new president.
October 29th, 2008 at 6:42 pm
If he’s elected, we’ll have to support him as our President. But he’s got a lot to prove — talk is cheap.
