How does a candidate raise $650 million dollars and $150 million in one month? He cheats of course. New evidence is emerging that the Obama camp has deliberately disabled the address verification feature for all of their credit card transactions. Normally, when you go to Amazon.com or some place and try to purchase an item, Amazon will ask for your CC# and your address, then they run a check to verify that the card# you are using matches that card’s # of record. Ace of Spades reports that credit card companies typically do not let companies disable this feature, and it can only be done deliberately:
Having worked for companies that process credit cards online, it is necessary to go through and manually disable the safeguards that they put in place to verify a person’s address and zip code with the cardholder’s bank. But international banks don’t currently have the same safeguards that banks in the US have, which also works in the One’s favor.
So most likely they’ve disabled the necessary safeguards for US cards which their merchant bank would be angry about if they found out since it exposes them to risk, as well as international cards which is an even greater risk because there’s no way to verify the information electronically for most countries, so they could just say they’re in the US with phony info and the card will still process online. The One could then just claim that they said they were from America.
Senator Clinton’s website worked with a reputable company that had the same safeguards in place for her online donations, seems like someone just doesn’t like to play by the rules that credit card companies have put in place.
Is there a legitimate reason to disable the AVS system? Apparently not:
Visa/MC banks hate it when merchants blow off AVS, as it increases the risk of chargebacks (which are a hassle/expense for the bank to handle). Consequently they demand a much higher discount rate to take cards with AVS-overrides.
If a merchant’s chargeback rate goes above 1% the banks will wallop the merchant with research fees. Merchants with high chargeback rates (like porn sites) can end up paying hundreds of thousands of dollars in extra monthly fees in order to be able to continue to accept cards, on top of huge discounts on each transaction.
If you think this is exaggeration, I would invite you to try it yourself, but I wouldn’t want anyone donating money to this scam artist. However, here are several testimonials of people who have tried to donate:
Frankly, its easier than I’d believe to do this. Courtesy of my (real) CC number and expiration date, the Obama campaign has just received a $19.45 donation from mister Adolf Hitler, whose occupation is “Dictator” at the company “National Socialist Party of Ger” (I got cut off). I captured screenshots to prove this.
No verification required. The listed address wasn’t even close to my real address.
Good to know that Obama is taking donations from Adolf Hitler, he truly is a post-racial candidate! What is even more frightening, is that apparently the Obama web page AVS system is also designed to take credit cards issued in foreign countries.
At Hot Air:
I have a credit card issued by a bank in Hong Kong.
I’ve just made 5 donations of $5 each using the card. I listed fake addresses in North Korea, Iran, Gaza, Venezuela and Kenya. The names and addresses were made up, each was different, I listed real Yahoo email addresses that forward to me.
Fake Name
Not A. Realperson
Finance Violation
Fraudulent Charge
Over Donation LimitAll 5 went through without a problem. I’m already being solicited for more money.
The truly frightening consequences of this is that anyone from anywhere in the world can contribute money to the Obama campaign, which is a violation of federal campaign finance law. Suddenly his world tour this summer makes more sense, he was trying to garner cash.
Just for fun, some bloggers also tried this same trick over at the McCain campaign web page. However, McCain actually has his AVS turned on, so the credit card transaction was denied. Maybe this explains why McCain is running behind in the polls, his unwillingness to cheat and bend the rules. After all, if you’re not cheating, you’re not trying and its not cheating unless you get caught. With the main stream media covering for Obama it’s easy to not get caught, because they don’t seem to know how to do any investigative journalism any longer.

Hmm… I just tried this with my real name but a non-billing address and found that I have now contributed $30 to the Obama campaign.
This compounds the fact that I’ve now donated to the Obama campaign TWICE this month, on top of the monthly donations I’ve already been making!
The transaction is currently listed as “Pending” in my account queue. Let’s see if the bank approves it. If so, it will appear that your source is correct.
I hope more people take the time to verify this hoodwinkiness by testing the system to see if the Obama campaign will accept their donations too.
Thanks for spurring me to early action.
I think I’ll test this system again before October is done. Perhaps with a larger amount, even.
I won’t, however, be testing any verification systems over at the McCain website. The risk is too great.

Hey Bryan,
First off, I just wanted to let you know that I really enjoyed this article a lot. Secondly,I wanted to reach out to you and let you know that the facts in this article aren’t 100% accurate. See, I work for a company called precharge, and we are a major risk management provider.
AVS is not a requirement, and banks do not frown on turning it off. There are however, two reasons that it would be turned off: 1) because now there is no way to track down the individual campaign limits as to the amount each individual person can contribute to a campaign. that is a federal law, and by turning off avs, there is no way to track that… someone can put in any number, any address and use a different card they have which is a serious violation of federal law and by doing that, they can start seeing more donations (which they have clearly done.) 2)By turning off avs, they can also accept fraudulent orders and not face the chargebacks until after the election, which in fact will happen now as a result, but since it wont affect them till after the election, no one cares.
I think you are really onto something with this article, and I think its a very important one. However, I think by making chargebacks center stage on this issue, it will really help educate the public on what chargebacks are, and furthermore, open up the flood gates to people issuing chargebacks against their donations.
Anyways, once again, GREAT article. Feel free to call me if you would like to discuss any of this.
Regards,
Adam Schecter

I’ve tried repeatedly to donate to Obama with a credit card that works everywhere BUT the Obama website. Don’t know why, but I would actually have donated more frequently (sometimes it went through) if my card wasn’t always getting rejected.

Stagolee, why am I not surprised that libs are not concerned about this and would encourage more fraud? Probably because we all know libs can’t win a national election without wide-scale fraud, hence ACORN. Its pathetically sad that you a-holes find it perfectly acceptible to subvert democracy for the sake of your party of imbeciles. Rock on!
October 24th, 2008 at 8:52 am
Whoa! Party of imbeciles. A-holes. Thanks. There are lots of stories out there about voter fraud initiated by republicans- in this election and previous ones. I haven’t linked to them because I assumed you wouldn’t bother opening them. Would you like to see them?
October 24th, 2008 at 9:39 am
Brian, ACORN has not perpetrated any fraud.

This will gain no political traction. The RNC using campaign funds to spend 150K on Palin’s wardrobe is a different matter, however. This really pisses a lot of people off who are struggling right now.
It is encouraging to see the RNC doing stupid things for a change.

WOW it works!! I just gave 200 to the Obama campaign! Feels good too!
- Just another lifelong Republican who has now lwft the party - forver

I just donated $1 to McCain camp (his lies are not worth any more) using the fictitious address. It worked proving that McCain Camp is same as Obama’s. So some of you who think B.O. is fraud, John McCain is as fraud if not more.
So, the idiots who go on wild accusations clean your house first.
