The first poll is out on the 3rd presidential debate. It is an online poll which makes the data suspect as always, but it is not one that the Obama campaign urges followers to stuff.
The Drudge Report poll has John McCain winning handily over Barack Obama 76% to 23%. You can view and take the poll here.
Curious as to reader thoughts. Who won the presidential debate? McCain or Obama? Share any other poll data that you see. You will likely see a large difference depending on whether the poll is pushed by the campaigns or not.

he was on the offense the whole debate.

Obama stuck to the issues intelligently and thoroughly. McCain attacked per usual and seemed nervous and smirky. OBAMA is the clear winner, no question

McCain was nasty, but didn’t offer the country anything new. Obama is cool, collected, and has vision.
McCain got owned on health care, education, and his tax stuff was bunk. The Joe Plumber stuff was funny. McCain almost fell over when Obama nuked his “fines” question on health care. LOL

McC.’s maniacal grin scared the living daylights out of me. Not mentioning his canned, repeated mantras that he shoved wherever he could, regardless of context.

I think it was way tighter than previous debates, and McCain was great. But not sure it was a win. Will it matter?
October 15th, 2008 at 6:53 pm
McCain won handily…Joe the Plumber is better than $5 million in advertising.

McCain got owned on nothing, and finally learned to fight. You are ideologically biased and cannot see how close it was.
October 15th, 2008 at 7:16 pm
Wendy, referring to someone’s opinion as “ideologically biased” is ironic, given the political blog on which this conversation is made possible.

Obama started out as the liar he is by ducking the campaign financing issue. He looked like a little kid for most of the debate and his mouth runs like a larks a**. His message of Hope and Change really means that as president the American people can only Hope they have a little Change left in their pockets after Obama and the democrats are done with them.

Sad to say that Obama won.
McCain came across as desperate and a bit lost with his stumbling over words and random comments.
Obama swayed me from the McCain camp. I just can’t stomach another 4 years of ‘full steam ahead’ into another depression.

Why wouldn’t Obama state that John Lewis was wrong for what he said about McCain and Palin? He covered his non-answer with a avalanche of words - which is his pattern.
October 15th, 2008 at 7:37 pm
Terry - if you were swayed by that then you were already in the Obama camp. That’s a ridiculous statement.
October 15th, 2008 at 7:38 pm
Wendy - I don’t see it as that close. I thought McCain domineered right from the get-go. Obama got all fumbly when he couldn’t answer and did what he does - talk endlessly.
October 15th, 2008 at 7:39 pm
McCain’s strongest debate performance so far. He’s a capable politician. I’d give him a slight edge on this one, but Obama played it real safe and hardly lost any ground.
Once again, no game changer. As expected. These two are pretty evenly matched in debates.
October 15th, 2008 at 7:40 pm
I second Beth - no one just “suddenly” switched from one camp to the other tonight. Especially since this was the closest of all the debates. You were firmly for Obama, even if you weren’t ready to come out and admit it.
However, the first step toward recovery is admitting you have a problem…
October 15th, 2008 at 7:41 pm
Truth is, McCain did a great job as an attack dog, and Barrack did a lousy job. He repeating himself dodging questions (or getting flustered I couldn’t tell) and was visibly shake on the final comment. McCain won on the punch count, but Obama knows the target audience. I’m independent, and will clearly vote for Obama but mostly because the Palin was McCains downfall with the moderates (including me).
October 15th, 2008 at 7:42 pm
Beth - Obama is a better speaker, hands down. Doesn’t mean he’s a better candidate - he just knows how to talk is all.
October 15th, 2008 at 7:44 pm
Terry is a troll. No truth to his/her statement. Obamahead from the beginning.

Grampa once again proved why he is losing this election, his inability to control his temper, to stay on message, and his total failure to convince anyone (even diehard republicans) that choosing Caribou Barbie as his running mate was anything but a complete joke. Time to go back to Sun City Grampa.

Obama won handily. McCain was utterly decimated.. It was almost embarrassing.

Dave - McCain won handily. Obama was utterly decimated.. It was really embarrassing.
October 15th, 2008 at 7:55 pm
I don’t understand why people view Palin as a bad choice for McCain. I thought she was a brilliant choice and brings a great deal to the ticket.
Neither she nor McCain make any attempt to force their personal views into policy that would force others to do the same. As opposed to Obama who would legislate morality according to his own belief system.
October 15th, 2008 at 7:57 pm
Dave it was not that bad.. as most of you know I am voting Obama.. and yes McCain was more aggressive, but that does not always equal wins.. McCain has always been the aggressor and it has not worked.. Obama took lessons from ALI, he is good counter puncher.. He makes McCAin look like the aggressor and more angry.. And voters are not looking for an angry man right now… and I know most of these perceived anger moments are McCains mannerism not real anger or discontent.. but most ppl watching do not know that, so Obama has been the perceived winner because of his demeanor
October 15th, 2008 at 7:57 pm
But you have to admit that Obama was NOT on his game tonight. Example:
McCain: I don’t care about some washed up terrorist…
Obama: Similar words were spoken by George W Bush about osama BenLaden. It is this kind of Mavrick posture, along with voting record, that justifies equating you and to President Bush and his failed policies. The American are ready for a candidate that will vote correctly, not just NOW.
