UPDATED TO INCLUDE THE FULL PALIN COURIC INTERVIEW.
CBS Anchor, Katie Couric, sat down with Republican Vice Presidential candidate Governor Sarah Palin for an interview aired tonite on CBS News. You can see the video below and read the full transcript.
No. They didn’t talk about lipstick, hair, or shoes. Or what’s up with the tanning bed. The interview was fairly direct and topical and will actually air over 2 days.
Here’s an excerpt of Katie Couric asking Governor Palin about the economy:
Katie Couric: If this doesn’t pass, do you think there’s a risk of another Great Depression?
Sarah Palin: Unfortunately, that is the road that America may find itself on. Not necessarily this, as it’s been proposed, has to pass or we’re gonna find ourselves in another Great Depression. But there has to be action taken, bipartisan effort – Congress not pointing fingers at this point at … one another, but finding the solution to this, taking action and being serious about the reforms on Wall Street that are needed.
You can watch tonite’s interview below the fold and read the full transcript of the interview here.

Ahem. So this is what the next potential VP of the United States of America sounds like.
Am I the only one who’s a bit worried? I mean this is an absolute trainwreck of an interview, and Couric was pretty gentle on her.
I’m pretty sure I know why the GOP wants to suspend the VP debate as well.
“I’ll try to find you some and I’ll bring them to ya.”
Pardon me?
September 25th, 2008 at 3:08 am
She can’t go off-script – she tried to stick to the talking points and failed to respond to any question with any real ideas.
They are wise to keep her on lockdown.
She’s not up to the job.
September 25th, 2008 at 3:14 am
Actually she reminded me of this:

Sad, sad day for the Republicans, isn’t it?
Or is it just the chickens comin’ home to roost?
Honestly, Americans deserved better than Bush, and now we’re being offered more of the same with McCain/Palin.
September 25th, 2008 at 8:04 am
Katie was really pressing Palin for more “examples” of McCain’s record on reform–was this a school quiz or something? I am curious why Katie didn’t ask Biden to explain during her interview with him why he said FDR was president in 1929 and addressed the American people on TV about the depression? HUH? Maybe Katie didn’t know that Hoover was president in 1929 and there wasn’t any TV for another 20 or so years. Guess both Katie and Joe failed 6th grade history.
September 25th, 2008 at 8:08 am
Liv,
so it’s all about Katie now? Last time I checked, she wasn’t running for office.
Sour grapes.
September 25th, 2008 at 8:09 am
Obama and Biden want to change things. What has either one of them EVER changed in government? Heck, Biden doesn’t even know history well enough to know what to change. McCain’s sponsorship of the ethics reform bill and proposal of the bill to oversee Freddie and Fannie, as suggested by Palin to Katie, is far more evidence of a candidate with a record of reform than either Obama or Biden has. In facct, Obama’s record is 0.0 (taking a line from Animal House).
September 25th, 2008 at 8:11 am
No, Jay…it’s about BIDEN not even knowing basic US history. Katie didn’t even follow up on that MAJOR double-gaffe. And Palin is knocked for not knowing McCain’s entire 26 year record. Wonder if Obama knows Biden’s complete Senate record off the top of his head? I sure don’t believe for a minute that Biden knows Obama’s record in the IL Senate.
September 25th, 2008 at 8:42 am
Actually Jay its about the interview.
Which consists of Katie and Palin.
Ya know, back and forth, two people ? One interview ?
So if Katies aggression on Palin and her softball to Biden is in question its fair play.
Yea, its cool to bash the one being interviwed without being alerted to the fact that its a left wing moonbat interviewing her ?
You guys did enough b*tching about OReilly when he interviewed Obama , so spare me please.
I’m surprised Katie didnt try to go into quantum physics
September 25th, 2008 at 9:15 am
So, basically – we’re screwed for the next 4 years. Whoever wins will not be able to handle well what seems to be a fairly grim scenario. I wonder if “big shots” from both sides just decided to sit this one out and instead sent the rookies and an old man to fight for dubious pleasure of running a post-Bush country. But that would be too much of a conspiracy theory, of course.
September 25th, 2008 at 9:22 am
Stagolee, Obama can’t go off script without making a stammering idiot of himself, so your post applies to him as well.
September 25th, 2008 at 9:30 am
“I’m surprised Katie didnt try to go into quantum physics.”
I’m not. I don’t think Katie Couric is much smarter than Palin, and that says a lot. What I’d like to see is Palin and Christopher Hitchens go at it.
September 25th, 2008 at 10:46 am
What I heard were legitimate questions. Nothing fancy. Shouldn’t be too hard to answer them. Just good old-fashioned investigative journalism. Too bad for Palin that Couric didn’t take bull$hit for an answer.
Best Obama ad I’ve seen so far.
September 25th, 2008 at 11:31 am
excuse me while I recuse myself……
did Sarah tell Katie “I’ll holla back at ‘cha?!”
September 25th, 2008 at 11:42 am
Jay, she sounds like a woman so get over your bias.
Sharon, don’t minimize the accomplishment of hopechangery itself.
Liv that’s a good point. Biden thinks FDR was president in 1929 and that television existed. Refreshing to hear “I’ll get back to ya” in contrast with lying. Palin is a straight shooter.
September 25th, 2008 at 11:42 am
Frightening…how as a Republican can I possibly vote for McCain/Palin? Her interviews are defenseless. So sad.
September 25th, 2008 at 11:50 am
“Her interviews are defenseless. So sad.”
Obama’s lack of a record of accomplishing anything since being an elected official is defenseless. So sad.
September 25th, 2008 at 11:51 am
RedJack, you are a registered Democrat in Boulder, Colorado. See our earlier post on Lying for Obama.
No need to lie, folks. Find something relevant to say if you want to participate in the Great Conversation. That demands that you apply intellect and analysis to confront the issues, just as John McCain is fixing the economy today in Washington DC.
September 25th, 2008 at 11:54 am
Why do people feel the need to defend this woman who doesn’t have a clue about anything. Ohhhh Biden didn’t have the correct date for a person that was president 70 YEARS AGO!!!! Palin doesn’t even know what’s going on this year, your blind faith is truly scary and sad.
September 25th, 2008 at 12:01 pm
It is just hilarious what passes for “foreign policy analysis” these days:
“It’s very important when you consider even national security issues with Russia as Putin rears his head and comes into the air space of the United States of America, where — where do they go? It’s Alaska. It’s just right over the border. It is — from Alaska that we send those out to make sure that an eye is being kept on this very powerful nation, Russia, because they are right there. They are right next to … to our state,” she said.”
September 25th, 2008 at 12:01 pm
The minimum wage Obama trolls lie all over the internet. They claim to be independent voters, when they aren’t. They even claim to be rac*sts who support conservative sites, to show that conservatives are closest rac*Sts.
Please stop with the lies and engage in real discussion. And get a real job in November. Make yourselves useful and serve me french fries.
September 25th, 2008 at 12:03 pm
…and make mine with ranch dressing!
September 25th, 2008 at 12:03 pm
Biden thinks FDR was president in 1929 and that television existed
It did, television, as we see it today, was invented in 1928 though earlier systems date back to the late 1880’s
September 25th, 2008 at 12:07 pm
“Obama’s lack of a record of accomplishing anything since being an elected official is defenseless. So sad.”
Yes it really is sad that with Obama’s “lack of a record of accomplishing anything” he still comes off smarter than both McCain and Palin who is supposedly the most “experienced” out of Bunch…Yes truly sad indeed.
September 25th, 2008 at 12:07 pm
Ig, John McCain is fixing the economic crisis today so there will be no excuse for jobless liberals.
Demitri, are you able to make a case that Barack Obama has more foreign policy experience than Sarah Palin? Go for it.
ISD, defend who? Nobody is “defending” Sarah Palin since we know the governor is capable of doing that all by her little ole girly self. What you are failing to hear is that she will make an awesome VP. She turns anyone in her way to toast, so be afraid of her, my friend, be afraid. Big Oil learned that the hard way in Alaska, as did two accomplished and very manly former governors.
