Ken Cockrel is the new Detroit Mayor following the plea deal made by current hip-hop Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick’s plea deal today. Sentencing is scheduled for October 28, 2008. Read about it and see pictures and video below.

Kwame Kilpatrick (D), the oft misunderstood and victimized Mayor of Detroit, Michigan was forced into admitting he lied under oath today. The poor man also plead *no contest* to assault charges shortly after Wayne County Circuit Court Judge David Groner accepted his plea deal about that little lying problem.

How dare Ms. Kym Worthy insist on prosecuting such a sweet , hard working, upstanding public official simply for lying and costing taxpayers over 8 million dollars? Why I bet Ken Cockrel is gleefully rubbing his hands together as he awaits his ascension to the throne of Detroit mayor on September 18th.

Sarcasm aside, the 38 year old, married Mr. Kilpatrick was originally charged with perjury, misconduct and obstruction of justice, along with his girlfriend, Christine Beatty. He had every opportunity to do the right thing at minimal cost to all involved, yet chose to drag this debacle out through what seemed an eternity. It is no secret that Michigan and it’s economy have been hit exceptionally hard the past few years, yet it mattered not to Kilpatrick and Co. that more taxpayers money would be spent on one excuse after the other in this mess. Nor did they care about the additional ridicule of Detroit City, as well as the state.

Kwame Kilpatrick attempted to play the race card … and had it not been for Ms. Worthy’s efforts, may have succeeded. Kwame thought he was being picked on because of his color, not his crimes. Right there shows an IQ problem, yet he was elected. Maybe there’s something in our water here.

The following quote was made this morning. It should have been said from day one, just to spare the citizens of Michigan the BS.

“I lied under oath in the case of Gary Brown and Harold Nelthrope versus the city of Detroit, Case No. 03317557NZ, regarding information that was relevant to claims made by Gary Brown and Harold Nelthrope. I did so with an intent to mislead the court and jury and to impede and obstruct the fair administration of justice.”

Details of the plea are as follows:

Kwame Kilpatrick plead guilty to 2 felonies and No Contest to an assault charge.

He will serve 120 days in jail, spend 5 years on probation, pay $1 million in restitution to the city, not be able to run for
office for 5 years, and loses his law license.

He resigned as Mayor of Detroit, effective Sept. 18.

He will be sentenced Oct. 28.

City Council president Ken Cockrel will become Mayor

Gov. Granholm adjourned the hearing she was holding on removing him from office until Sept. 22.

If his resignation has taken effect, the hearing will be canceled.

Governor Jennifer Granholm (D) pleaded for the community to show compassion and pray for the mayor’s family. That’s all well and good, but Michigan citizens will not forget who the real victims of this ridiculous abuse of power are. Us.

I applaud Ms. Kym Worthy’s tenacity and unwillingness to compromise the truth. She did not back down, but was willing to compromise a tiny bit to just get this debacle over. Of course, Kilpatrick would have no part in it..his way or no way. Today, the truth won.

On Sept 22, Detroit’s new Mayor, Ken Cockrel, will have the opportunity to start anew, and perhaps bring Detroit back to the point where people can look you in the eye when admitting they are or were, from Detroit. Kinda hard to do that right now after all the Kilpatrick - Beatty drama.

Ms. Christine Beatty is scheduled for her day in court September 11.
