Meet Todd Palin, the First Gentleman of the great state of Alaska. His wife, Governor Sarah Palin is the presumptive 2008 Republican Vice Presidential candidate. Read his biography, see photos and watch a video of him below.
Sarah Palin’s husband, Todd, is a really interesting guy with a diverse background of interests and hobbies. By all accounts, he and Sarah enjoy a loving and well adjusted family life. Today is their 20th wedding anniversary - the very day Sarah was named John McCain’s running mate in the race for the White House.
Todd Mitchell Palin was born on September 6, 1964 in Dillingham, Alaska and his age is 44 years old. He is a lifelong Alaskan, a production operator on the North Slope, and a four-time champion of the Iron Dog, the world’s longest snow machine race!
Todd eloped with his high school sweetheart, Sarah Heath on August 29th, 1988 to save her parents the cost of a wedding. They didn’t know they needed a witness for a wedding, so they recruited two seniors from a retirement home next to the justice of the peace.
He is a commercial fisherman, an oil field worker, a member of the United Steelworkers, and an Alaska Native. Todd’s grandmother grew up in a traditional Yupik Eskimo house in Bristol Bay and accompanied Sarah in her race for governor as she sought support from Alaska Native voters. Todd is 1/8th part Alaskan native American.
For 18 years, he worked for BP Oil in the North Slope oil fields of Alaska. In 2007, in order to avoid a conflict of interest, he quit his job as production supervisor when his employer became involved in natural gas pipeline negotiations with his wife’s administration.
Sarah and Todd Palin love to fish in Bristol Bay with their children – Track, Bristol, Willow, Piper and newborn son, Trig. Track, their oldest son, enlisted in the U.S. Army on Sept. 11, 2007 and is expected to deploy to Iraq on September 11, 2008.
Since his wife has become the Governor of Alaska, Todd has remained in the background as “first dude, an expression his wife uses. His other interests include coaching hockey and basketball, fly fishing, and spending time with his family.

A good looking couple. I am impressed that he resigned his position to avoid any appearance of conflict of interest. This is something that Joe Biden should have taught his son Hunter Biden who was hired by MBNA (and immediately accelerated into management) AFTER MBNA had made significant (actually the execs at MBNA were his largest donors) contributions to his campaign AND after they helped Biden with the sale of his house.
Quite the contrast, eh?

Interesting point MDefl. Just as Michelle Obama got a major raise and then her corporation received some pork from Obama. No problem there, huh?
BTW - He’s hot too.

I am going to give Mac’s campaign some cash before the deadline. He is probably bringing in a ton of $ today. Good for him especially since Obama broke his promise on the issue of public financing. I wonder why our Dem friends don’t comment on that?
August 29th, 2008 at 10:09 pm
I’ll comment on that. It was politically wise obviously to go back on that commitment. It was BARELY justifiable (as in “one could justify” not that I buy it) in the sense that the Internet is a game-changer, etc.
However, you’re right that it was totally a reversal of his previous statement. That and his cowardly vote and leadership on FISA is why I am disillusioned with him and currently not actively supporting him.
Of course, McCain is much more of an opportunistic flip-flopper and would be a far worse president. I’m not opposed to a politician changing position, but doing so on such important issues for blatantly partisan reasons is pretty douchy IMO.

Waldo,
He also previously stated that he would be open to a series of joint appearances/debates. Now? Not so much.
LOL!

From Dave Duval, an old Goldwaterite:
“And let me tell you something — for the first time in my
adult lifetime during this campaign, I am really proud of my
presumptive nominee.”
My feelings exactly.
Britain had Maggie Thatcher, The Iron Maiden.
America has been given Sarah Palin, The Iditarod Maiden.
BTW the postings, bios, pics, and videos in the past weeks have been outstanding. I can always come here for oodles of info noodles.
Thanks.

Can’t wait for the new polls to come out. I’ll go out on a limb and say that Mac will top OB. Mc blew OB out of the water on friday. It was hard trying to find anyone (on the news or in public) talking about OB speech the night before. All talk was about Mac and Palin. Regarding her lack of foreign affairs, i simply ask, how much experience does BO have in foreign affairs? I would argue that she’s been overseas more times than BO. Ds also said she is not a good mother because she’ll be too busy with the campaign. That’s a direct insult to ALL fathers. I can assure you that fathers are capable of raising a family.

I am shocked i figured mitt romney, never knew she was being considered but just the same excited for history and for Mccain. Obamanation has the minority vote just because which just shows his status as a messiah or 2nd mlk i have a dream.

Bob,
You never responded to me vis a vis Joe Biden and the question of ethics. What is the matter? Are your fingers broken?

So, who takes care of the kids? Who will take care of the kids when she has to put country first 24/7?
August 30th, 2008 at 4:28 pm
There appears to be an avalanche of concern for her children’s care, especially the Down’s syndrome baby. It is all coming from the same people who would advocate aborting it. She has a loving husband who is involved with his family. So, meohmy, are you saying the baby should have been aborted instead of being born into an active family? Or are you simply saying that a woman’s proper place is at home raising her kids?
August 30th, 2008 at 4:55 pm
Hey john a — I’m not taking the bait. I would absolutely never advocate aborting a Down’s child. It’s her choice to have as many children as she wants. My position, however, is that any woman — and her mate — who has five children also has a responsibility to raise them and not be absentee when they are in their formative years. (Anybody around here have a teenager?) If she is this talented, her talents will only be improved and reinforced in 10-15 years after her children are cared for until they reach majority age. What’s the rush? Let the GOP nurture her feistiness before trotting her out like a doll on the international stage. After all, being VP of the most powerful country in the world is not some ordinary job. It’s 24-7; country first. My position is family first, with a responsible job — like Gov — that has fewer iron-clad demands on her time. Isn’t family first the position of her church too?

At what age should the children be for it to be permissible for a woman to begin a career? Maybe Michelle should be staying home, too. I don’t remember this much concern for child rearing and neglected children when Michelle’s career was mentioned in the news. RE; the church’s position. I wonder what Reverend Jeremiah Wright’s position is on this important topic. Did he ever say “God D… working mothers” while the kids were sitting next to them in the pew or was it just “God D… America”?
August 30th, 2008 at 5:31 pm
I am a working mom with a career. Have always been. But I”m not expected to be available every minute of every day. There are jobs, careers, and then a very few, like VP that are fundamentally different than any other position on Earth. If you don’t understand that, then I really don’t know what to say. I can miss a meeting; I don’t know what Michelle Obama does, and I don’t really care, as she is not running for elected office, one heartbeat away from the presidency. I surely hope you don’t think that being VP is just a job, similar to being first lady.
August 30th, 2008 at 6:09 pm
No, I don’t think being VP is just a job like being First Lady. Hillary has already established that being First Lady is much more important than
VP. The Founding Fathers should have put it in the Constitution that women with children that aren’t grown shouldn’t be Vp or President–only men can do that.
August 30th, 2008 at 6:15 pm
Thank you John - well said.
BTW - I don’t believe for a second that these supposed ‘working women’ and ‘conservative women’ are what they say they are. They are trolls just trying to put out their vulgar disregard for women without anyone knowing they are Obama supporters.
Disgusting.

These are nothing more than BO trolls. They could care less about family values.
August 31st, 2008 at 11:42 am
why do you suppose that immediately upon announcement of palin as mccain’s vp pick the official alaska governor’s page link to “first gentleman’s bio” was disabled and 24 hours later has been completely scrubbed?
it’s curious that just when the american public want to know all about the palins, information about them which was previously available has now been scrubbed.
August 31st, 2008 at 11:46 am
oh brother.
the shear number of hits on the governor’s website crashed the server. there is no deep dark secret here about this guy. i found lots of information “out there” on him.

Mark De Fleur-You are an editor of Right Pundits. Why can’t you attack the argument people are making instead of the people themselves? This place would be much more interesting and stimulating.
