An advertisement by the American Issues Project that shows Obama’s possible link to admitted terrorist William Ayers has Obama’s campaign fighting mad. You can view the ad here under “Latest Video”:

Obama supporters are inundating stations that air the ad with complaints, and threatening sponsors of those stations with boycotts.

Obama’s attorneys are claiming that the ad is illegal. One of Obama’s lawyers, Robert Bauer wrote to managers of stations that ran the ad: “Your station is committed to operating in the public interest, an objective that cannot be satisfied by accepting for compensation material of such malicious falsity.” Obama is looking into having the Department of Justice investigate the ad as a violation of campaign law.

Why are we getting such a vehement reaction from Obama? Obama cannot deny that he served on the board of the Annenberg Challenge with Ayers for over five years. He cannot deny that he launched his political campaign from Ayers’ home. The only factual statement that Obama might deny is the use of the term “friend.”

Obama responds that they were not friends. Obama says Ayers is just a guy in the neighborhood that he passingly knew. Obama states that Ayers crimes were committed when Obama was only eight years old, and that Obama has denounced Ayers’ actions.

Note, he’s denounced Ayers’ actions, but not Ayers himself. This kind of “disassociation” may work for Obama in dealing with Rev. Wright (who said a lot of nasty things but committed no known crimes), Franklin Marshall Davis (who is rumored to have done a lot of things but never been convicted), or Louis Farrakhan (same as Wright), but Ayers?

Ayers was a terrorist who was dedicated to the violent overthrow of the United States government and plotted bombings of government buildings that (if done competently) would’ve killed hundreds if not thousands of Americans. He engaged in crimes that in a post 9-11 world would get him life in prison, if not the death penalty. Further, Ayers has NEVER been contrite for what he did in the Sixties/Seventies. He says he didn’t do enough.

In his actions against the country, Ayers is no different than Sheik Omar Abdel-Rahman who is currently serving life in prison for plotting to bomb government buildings. In my mind, opening your political campaign in Ayers’ house is the same as starting out in the mosque of Sheik Abdel-Rahman. Just imagine Obama trying to use the same line of “disassociation” regarding Sheik Abdel-Rahman. “I was once close to the Sheik, but I denounce what he’s done in the past.” No way American would buy that. Does Obama expect to get a pass on Ayers because Ayers was radical chic, not radical Islam? I don’t see any difference.

Some people are so tainted (O.J. Simpson, Hitler, Charles Manson, etc.) that you should not be associated with them at all, much less hold an important life event in his home. Ayers is one of those people.
