Congresswoman Stephanie Tubbs Jones was hospitalized today apparently from brain hemorrhaging brought on by a brain aneurysm. She was reported dead, but latest reports are that she is still hospitalized. Read about it below and see photos and a video of Ms. Jones.

Stephanie Tubbs Jones was rushed to the hospital late Tuesday evening after she was driving erratically when a police officer tried to stop her vehicle. Her car drifted across lanes of oncoming traffic and finally came to a stop. When the officer approached her car he discovered that she was unconscious, slumped behind the wheel of her car. She was rushed to the hospital. Early reports of her death were incorrect.

Its been reported that she has died, however, the latest reports are that she is hospitalized in critical condition, has not regained consciousness and remains on life support. She is reported to have very limited brain functioning. Her prognosis is dire. The family has requested that there not be any further information on her medical condition released.

She is reported to have had a brain hemorrhage brought on by an aneurysm.

Jones is a five term Congresswoman from Ohio. She was the first Black Congresswoman to represent Ohio when she was elected to office in 1998. She was a Democratic Party superdelegate and had been scheduled to attend the Democratic National Convention in Denver, Colorado next week.

Jones was a strong advocate for Hillary Clinton’s Presidential campaign, but changed her support to Barack Obama in June 2008 after Hillary Clinton suspended her campaign and once he became the presumptive nominee of the Democratic Party.

UPDATE: New reports are that the Jones family and hospital officials have confirmed that Ms. Jones died at 6.12 p.m. today at Huron Hospital in Ohio. The official cause of death is reported as aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage. The previous “>erroneous reports of her death were allegedly distributed by the office of Senator John Kerry.

Stephanie Tubbs Jones Biography

Stephanie Tubbs Jones was born on September 10, 1949 in Cleveland, Ohio. She died on Wednesday, August 20, 2008. She was 58 years old. She graduated from Collinwood High School, Cleveland, Ohio. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Case Western Reserve University and went on to earn a degree in Social Work in 1971 from Flora Stone Mather College. She earned her J. D. from Case Western Reserve University of Law in 1974. She was a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

She married Mervyn L. Jones, Sr. on November 27, 1976. The couple were married for 27 years until his death on October 2, 2003. They are the parents of Mervyn Leroy Jones, Jr.

Jones was elected to the Cleveland, Ohio municiplal court in 1981. She served as a judge in the Court of Common Pleas of Cuyahoga County, Ohio from 1983 to 1991. She was a proscecutor with Cuyahoga County from 1991 to 1998. In 1998 she was elected to Congress and has served five consecutive terms from January 3, 1999 to present. She has been the chair of the Committee on Standards and Offical Conduct.
