Meet Kathleen Sebelius, Governor of Kansas a potential candidate to be Obama’s vice-presidential running mate. Read her biography below and see photos and videos of her.

Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius is on the short list as a potential Obama running mate. Speculation has run rampant about her credentials and what she brings to an Obama campaign. For one thing, she’s a woman and many believe that will help pacify the divide in the Democratic party between Hillary Clinton supporters and Obama supporters. For another, she’s a popular democratic governor in a traditionally Republican state.

Sebelius is the Chairwoman of the Democratic Governors Association and endorsed Barack Obama for the Presidency in January 2008. She has actively campaigned for Obama and will be in Iowa this week on his behalf.

In spite of liberal stances on issues of abortion, gun control and capital punishment, she has been able to project an image of a moderate and has courted centralist voters.

She has been under scrutiny recently for hosting a reception at her official residence that was attended by Dr. George Tiller, an abortion doctor who is under investigation for performing illegal late term abortions. Tiller and his staff, as well as other abortion doctors, were invited to this event. She didn’t confirm that this ‘lavish secret party’ took place until a pro-life group published photos of the event that showed Sebelius and Tiller at the party in the Governor’s Mansion.

Sebelius has been called ‘the national pro-choice poster girl’ and is known to have very close ties with the abortion industry in Kansas. In May 2008 the Roman Catholic archbishop for northeast Kansas stated that Sebelius should not take Communion until she repudiates her past actions and her stance on abortion.

She is often cited as a potential candidate in future elections.
