As the Iraq war is finally concluding in the Middle East, the locals in San Francisco are looking for a new cause. They have managed to qualify an oddball ballot initiative for the November election which would rename a local sewage plant the George W. Bush Sewage Plant.
The plant currently has a perfectly descriptive name, the Oceanside Water Pollution Control Plant. The folks who worked so hard getting the petitions signed say it is to commemorate the mess that George Bush has made of the country.
As a time when our nation is faced with difficult financial challenges, undoubtedly there are better uses for one’s time. But we are talking about heavily Democratic San Francisco, which is egocentric enough to occasionally make foreign policy proclamations by their local Board of Supervisors.
In this case a group called the Presidential Memorial Commission gathered the requisite 15,000 signatures. The effort was heroically led by a former mayoral candidate named Chicken John. Not kidding. And yes, Chicken John is a Barack Obama supporter.

Actually, the rumor has worked… just not in San Francisco; San Franciscans are smarter that that.
Now let’s set the IQ-bar a little lower, say to Fox News level. How many FNC viewers believe Barak is Muslim? A lot! Perhaps this speaks more to the journalistic value of Fox News and not the IQ of the viewers, but I believe it is a combination of those two factors.

Obama isn’t a practicing Muslim but he wasn’t baptized either and is currently a member of no church. Barak Obama was a Muslim growing up in Indonesia. seems a tortured nuance that he claims now that he wasn’t a practicing Muslim despite the recollections of teachers and friends. Dunno why Obamaheads think his former religion is so important.

The reason it is important? Because if the GOP loses Michigan this year, it will be because of the association of Republicans with anti-Muslim and anti-immigrant prejudices. Until recently the (non-black) Muslim population there used to slant Republican in their voting habits due largely to cultural issues, but they are now a solid Democratic voting block after witnessing the true colors of the Republican party, with Rightpundits as a case in point. There are enough of them to tip the election.
Did Obama “practice Islam” in Indonesia? (As you once put it, a “strict Muslim upbringing”) Read this, from a paper that published two anti-Obama op ed pieces today (and no pro-Obama pieces).

I really have no sense of whether obama is a muslim or christian. He’s been exposed to both and he seems to have adopted a some of both. But in his own mind, out of camera view, what he belives strikes me more as a well meaning agnostic than a devout beliver, like most people. I conclude he has adopted the parts in each he likes and rings true to him in kind of a globalistic spirtuality. Nothing wrong with that, but its a mistake to assume he doesn’t value things in the Koran as well as the Bible.

No one said he is “Denying” his Muslim background. Some are, but they miss the point, which you also did by not noting the difference between “WAS and “IS”.
What he is doing is “not admitting” to the time he spent worshiping as a Muslim although it was stipulated by instructors and it was more rudimentary than anything he was required to do so.
He states that half the time he wouldn’t even pray, instead him and his buddies would play at the mosque.
There is no possible way he can “deny” his Muslim background.
His childhood is riddled with Muslim occasions and instances.
He did live in a Muslim country during part of his childhood and briefly attended a Muslim school there, but he certainly wasn’t raised a Muslim his entire childhood but did for a short time act as one.
Also, Daniel Pipes has some interesting information that makes it clear also that Obama definitely has a Muslim background.
