Here is the video of John McLaughlin labeling Barack Obama “oreo” during the McLaughlin Group show which aired on Sunday, July 12th 2008. It took a full day for the story to gain legs, and now we expect John McLaughlin to pay a price for her crass representation of a thought.

Obama “fits the stereotype blacks once labeled as an Oreo, a black on the outside, a white on the inside. Does it frost Jackson, Jesse Jackson, that an Oreo should be the beneficiary of the long civil rights struggle which Jesse Jackson spent his lifetime fighting for?”

Barack Obama is half black and half white, the offspring of an atheist communist mother who is white and a Marxist Islamic father who is black-African. The term “oreo” is generally considered derisive in the black community to refer to someone who isn’t black enough in manners and thought. It is not used to describe a person of mixed race.

“Oreo” is an offensive term which should not be used. More importantly it does not reflect the views of the black community who are solidly behind Obama except for some rival sourpusses like Jesse Jackson. Obama has been a lifelong advocate for inner city causes, from his “community organizing” days in Chicago to his continued support for affirmative action programs during the presidential campaign.

McLaughlin was immediately rebuffed on his own show by panelists Peter Beinart and Michelle Bernard.
