War is breaking out in Hollywood. The entire conflict is all over re-enactments of World War II. The opening salvos have been shot, the opposing sides are pulling out 44-magnum measuring tapes and its shaping up to be a dirty, hairy contest between Spike Lee and Clint Eastwood.

It all started when Clint Eastwood wrote, directed and produced films about the battle of Iwo Jima, Flags of Our Fathers and Letters From Iwo Jima. In making those films, Eastwood neglected to include a single black actor. Lee pointed this out to Eastwood through the news media because he’s promoting a World War II movie himself. His movie is Miracle at St. Anna which is about an all-black American unit that fought Germans in World War II.

Lee, unlike Eastwood, always produces multi-cultural movies that include every combination of every possible racial and ethnic group in every movie he makes. I’m sure that he will include Asian actors as part of his all-black unit in his film. Because, that’s the way to do it and he doesn’t discriminate! When Lee slammed Eastwood for being a bigoted pig by not making Japanese Soldiers black, Eastwood was asked about this in an interview and said that Lee should read a history book and ‘shut his face’. He said it in that squinty-eyed, Dirty Harry, whispery voice that sends chills down the spines of grown men with tattoos and piercings in places you can’t see.

Well, today Spike Lee got on the front page again by shooting back at Eastwood. He said HE didn’t make this personal, HE didn’t call names, HE didn’t attack Eastwood in the vile manner that Eastwood attacked him. He said HE didn’t make this about race. HE has been civilized. He said Eastwood just sounds like a bitter old man and “we’re not on a plantation.”

Clint Eastwood has not seemed as interested in this game of batting a ball back and forth, but regardless of his level of interest in determining whether he or Spike Lee is the Alpha Male, the ball is now in his court.
