Obama Shot – Huckabee
Mike Huckabee just took himself out of the VP running if he ever were in it. Huckabee joked about Barack Obama getting shot at by a gun during a speech at the National Rifle Association. The video is below!
The text of what Huckabee said: “That was Barack Obama. He just tripped off a chair. He’s getting ready to speak and somebody aimed a gun at him and he … he dove for the floor.”
Huckabee can be funny but this is politically deaf and dumb. Curtains for Mike Huckabee. It was nice to know you.
Yes, there is a double standard. If Huckabee were talking about Dick Cheney getting shot and wounded on a hunting trip, nobody much would care. But he is talking about Barack Obama, the new black leader, who is the first leader to unify the black community since Martin Luther King Jr. And that community does not forget what happened to MLK 40 long years ago. As a result of history pollsters tell us that black voters have a mortal fear about Obama getting shot. Huckabee will not be able to undo the damage and McCain does not need the distraction.
Video is below.
Huckabee – Obama Gun Joke at the NRA

Well, that was a dumb move.
May 16th, 2008 at 1:58 pm
Eh, its Huckabee, we’re talking about. Goodbye and good riddance.
May 16th, 2008 at 2:03 pm
I really don’t think jokes about shooting people are funny regardless of who they are referring to. Even the Dick Chaney jokes were only funny after the fact and in reference to being careful about going hunting with him.
That’s just me, I guess.

Perhaps Huckabee was pandering to the confederate-flag waving southern white cracker faction. Of course, Huckabee has now exposed himself as being part of it, as well. Truly, this was a spectacular display of cloddishness.
May 16th, 2008 at 2:18 pm
He’s been pandering to those folks the whole time. Why do you think he said “Don’t Mormons believe the Devil is Jesus’ brother?” He was playing on the fears of the anti-mormon southern baptist red-neck vote.
May 16th, 2008 at 2:44 pm
There isn’t anything “funny” about (former Rev.) Mike Huckabee’s comment!! There isn’t anything funny for anyone to joke about avoiding a barrel of a gun! Those that were in attendance at the NRA that laughed at the joke, should be ashamed of themselves! I’ll bet that they all claim themselves as being Christians! LOL! The GOP’s mouthpieces like Mike Huckabee, will be their demise. They’ve already lost 3 seats to the Dems, and could lose up to 20 seats by November! Mike Huckabee, has essentially sold his former-Christian soul for political power! John McCain, has people like this around him?! This is an indicator of how John McCain’s White House is going to look.
May 16th, 2008 at 2:58 pm
Very Christian isn’t it? Aiming at a gun at Obama is crass and very dangerous. This is a dangerous country we don’t need that kind of jokes. He is finished.
May 16th, 2008 at 3:03 pm
I am not a fan of the NRA, but I do not hear any laughter after this “joke.” I think that the NRA members are not classless to the point of laughing at this “joke.”
Huckabee just might have done the Democrats a huge favor.
May 16th, 2008 at 3:10 pm
Well, you Dems can hope that this will help you, but I doubt it. Huckabee has no real relevance in terms of the election. Whether you like it or not, the NRA is a very powerful group and its not just conservatives, there are plenty of Reagan-Democrats who own guns are are in the NRA. Clinton (Bubba not Hill) was a believable gun owner because he was basically neck. Kerry and Obama are just not believable at all . . . “Can I get me a huntin’ license?” That was a classic line from the 04 elections, didn’t really sit too well with the people he was making fun of.
I wonder if the last three posters all got their talking points from the same place (I’m guessing Daily Kos). Don’t you guys have anything original to say?
May 16th, 2008 at 3:15 pm
They did laugh when he started talking about Obama falling off a chair, but when he got to the part about someone pointing a gun at him, the audience was pretty silent aside from a few nervous chuckles or people who laughed out of reflex and then thought “oh wait a minute… what did he just say???”. Truly an idiotic move. I hope his political career is over after this and I hope the GOP crucifies him for this.
May 16th, 2008 at 3:18 pm
I noticed he didn’t seem to get that many laughs. Because it wasn’t funny and just contradicted what he just said. Not to mention
it showed he is a two faced low life.
Poor excuse for an American and would have made possibly a worse president then Bush!
If thats possible.

Wrong. Huckabee is STILL getting a lot of votes in the primaries despite not being on the ballot. And McCAin has been considering for Vice President.
If you think that the NRA would retain all its power if it endorses Huckabee’s statement you are sick and it would prove that the NRA is sick.
I think this will add a stench to the NRA no matter what, since people will get the message about what goes on in private in NRA discussions – making jokes about killing innocent people, even people who might become president, and making a joke of it. Well, I don’t know if Huckabee thought it was private, come to think of it. He must have known the cameras were there.
sick sick sick
May 16th, 2008 at 4:02 pm
What, you mean as sick as the thousands of jokes I’ve heard about killing President Bush from liberals?
May 16th, 2008 at 4:02 pm
Huck not only took himself out of the realm of politics. He put himself and his wife in the crosshairs of the fringe. If Obama gets hurt, there will be hell to pay. What a pity. What was this man possibly thinking. Even the NRA appeared dumbfounded. Kabar

Why would you think that? Do you think there are no Republicans, in fact NRA-supporting Republicans, who would be upset about an erstwhile presidential hopeful making a joke about killing another presidential candidate?
You are wrong about that. The NRA doesn’t NOT support killing innocent people. OR making jokes about such a thing. The NRA insists that all members are law-abiding. It is not law-abiding to kill an innocent person no matter what you think. Those who say otherwise ought to get out of the organization.

YOu heard such a thing from a Democrat who used his Christianity to get votes, a Democrat who was recently a presidential candidate joking about another candidate being assassinated, while that Democrat was being videotaped in public?
May 16th, 2008 at 4:15 pm
Heh, pretty funny. If Obama picks Hilary as his running mate, he’ll need to constantly look over his shoulder for assasination attempts–from her cronies.

@17
I think that because all three posters said essentially the exact same thing and I know that DU and Kos does exactly what I suggested they do. Look, I’m no Huckabee supporter, but if you try to paint us all with a wide brush your not helping your cause at all. I don’t recall anyone on this site defending what the Huckster said, I think we all agree he’s an idiot. But not every gun-owning member of the NRA agrees with this idiot.
@18 Fair enough point, but Marcia’s comments were not directed only towards the Huckster, she was once again painting all conservatives as people who would tell such a joke. I merely countered that it was the left who made a movie about assassination Bush and loves to joke and wish he was dead. So, when she says that kind of joke is sick, I hope she applies the same criteria to Bush as well.

RW, I wouldn’t feel safe with Hillary as my VP.

I don’t feel safe with the Moron in Chief, Dumbya Bush in charge of the red button. He’s likely to blow up Israel by accident while “choking on a pretzel”, ie sloshed.

But of course it was you who was trying to paint anyone who objected to Huckabee’s statement with a wide brush as DU and Kos lefties.
And you say: “Fair enough point, but Marcia’s comments were not directed only towards the Huckster, she was once again painting all conservatives as people who would tell such a joke.”
She did? Can you quote that? And what do you mean by “once again”?
May 16th, 2008 at 4:47 pm
Which of these presidents we have had since World War II would you consider the worst president? top two:
George W. Bush: 34%
Richard Nixon: 17%
May 16th, 2008 at 5:04 pm
Actually I’m pretty sure it was Carter.
And that is along with some sort of a legacy that really has not flourished since he left office.
