Craig Ferguson is a new American, actor and comedian. He hosted the 2008 White House Correspondents Dinner last night.
I’m secretly in love with Craig Ferguson. Please don’t tell anyone. Let’s keep it our little secret. He’s just got everything. He’s handsome, funny, smart, down to earth, appears to be genuine and all the things there are to love in a man. None of those things are the real reason I love him though. Its his Scottish accent. I LOVE listening to him talk. I watch his show sometimes and I have to listen really hard to understand him, but its just so cute. His heavy Scottish brogue is just so dadgume masculine and attractive. “I KNOW-W-w-ww!? See what I mean?
Okay, I know that’s beside the point, but if you watch the video I’ve included below you will see what I mean.
Craig Ferguson became a United States citizen just a few months ago and last night he hosted the 2008 White House Correspondents Dinner. He must have thought he was in the middle of a dream. That’s a long way to travel from immigrant to moderately known television personality to standing up in front of who’s-who of Washington D.C. and roasting the President of the United States. He did a fantastic job of it.
I’m enough of a nerd that I actually watch the White House Correspondents Dinner if I’m at home when they show it on television. I haven’t been invited to attend in person yet. Here are some of the highlights of the evening ….
Bush had a laugh at the expense of all the presidential candidates. He noted that none of them were there. He said McCain was probably not there because he was trying to keep some distance from him. Then he went on to say he wasn’t alone because Jenna was moving out too. He said Hillary Clinton was dodging sniper fire and Barack Obama was in church.
President Bush also noted that the apocalypse must be at hand seeing as how Pamela Anderson and Mitt Romney were having dinner in the same room.
Craig Ferguson did a good job of staying in the middle politically. He praised the President for not having any sex scandals while he has been in office … other than Barney humping the Pope’s leg. The President didn’t hear him and when someone told him what he said he laughed so loud that his laugh drew a larger laugh from the audience than the original joke. Ferguson also roasted the President about taking vacation time suggesting he find a job after his Presidency with more vacation time. Ha!
Ferguson took jabs at The New York Times, Vice-President Cheney and various and sundry others. All in all, a good time was had by all.
I did like that Ferguson pointed out that the people who criticize America most tend to be more privileged natural born Americans who haven’t had the experience of living in other countries. Of course, he then went on to pick on Belgium and Canada! Yeah, those are tough places to live.
