Pennsylvania Democrat Representative John Murtha was tasked with introducing his candidate for President, Hillary Clinton, before her speech to the AFL-CIO’s Building Trades National Legislative Conference. He introduced her by telling the group that John McCain is too old to be President.

Among other things John Murtha said:

“I’ve served with seven presidents,� Murtha told a union audience. “When they come in, they all make mistakes. They all get older.�

“This one guy running is about as old as me,� he said, drawing laughter and applause. “Let me tell you something, it’s no old man’s job.�

John Murtha is about four years older than John McCain so Murtha is probably basing his conclusions on his own abilities. Then again, Murtha has never been one to accomplish a lot other than getting our tax dollars into his own pockets through the enormous amounts of pork he’s such an expert at appropriating.

John McCain responded to Murtha:

“All I can tell you is that I admire and respect Jack Murtha. Speak for yourself, Jack. I’m doing fine. Thanks.�

I know that McCain has to say things like ‘I admire and respect …. whoever’. That’s politics and proper verbiage for Senators and Congressmen to use when they talk about each other. I don’t admire and respect John Murtha and since I’m not a politician I don’t have to worry about all that political speak.

The difference in John Murtha’s and John McCain’s ability to handle the Presidency in their seventies is as different as their performances in the Senate and Congress. Even more to the point, its as difference as their performance under fire in Vietnam.

There really is no comparison between the two.
