FBI Director James Comey appeared before the House Intelligence Oversight Committee, along with NSA Director Admiral Mike Rogers. For some 5 hours, they testified before Congress, saying very little in the public forum. They had few facts to offer as most of the questions revolve around classified material and ongoing investigations. However, we did learn a couple of things. First, there is an ongoing probe into possible links between the Trump campaign, including some former staff members and some individuals who were never part of the campaign, with the Russian government. Secondly, Comey, himself, said that most of the leaked information that has been appearing in various news reports is ″dead wrong″. He also stated that neither the FBI nor the Justice Department had any evidence of the Obama administration ordering surveillance on Donald Trump. Of course, he could not comment if any member of Team Trump was recorded resulting from surveillance on foreign nationals by other spy agencies, which seems to be the case for Michael Flynn.

James Comey

Perhaps the most interesting moment during the 5 hours of testimony was the apparent lack of resolve by Comey and the FBI to investigate who has been leaking potentially classified information to the News Media. Congressman Peter King (R-NY) raised the matter of the January 6, 2017 intelligence briefing of President-Elect Donald Trump by Comey, Rogers, as well as CIA Director John Brennan and National Intelligence Director James Clapper. Within a few hours after that meeting at Trump Tower, details about the meeting were leaked to the press. When asked by Rep. King, Comey refused to offer any names of others who may have been in the room, such as staff aides for the Intel directors.

Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-SC) also pushed Comey for details about who was leaking, to no avail. Dowdy concluded that for some of the material leaked, perhaps only two dozen Obama appointed officials may have had access to the material. Comey refused to comment on whether any of these people have ever been questioned about the leaks. Such leaks are felony offenses under the Espionage Act, punishable by 10 years in federal prison.

For his part, Admiral Mike Rogers confirmed that the NSA had no evidence that the outcome of the 2016 election was tampered with by the Russian hacking efforts. Both the FBI and NSA had no direct evidence that there was any collusion between the Trump campaign and the Russian government. The ongoing FBI probe seems to be centered on a short list of a few former campaign staffers, as well as a couple of individuals who were Trump supporters but not employed by the campaign. Aside from Michael Flynn, who may have allegedly forgotten to list all of the foreign national companies and agencies he may have represented in the past, only a few other people stand out as possibly having legal issues.

So, as predicted here, this whole Trump-Russia thing has been little more than Fake News. As far as the Obama-Trump surveillance story, that may as well be Fake News, originating from reports by the New York Times and others. Which is par for the course! Just look at how The Media and the Democrats have tried to tag Donald Trump with the whole Obama-birth certificate thing. That story did not originate with Trump, nor even with Conservative Media, such as talk radio. The ′Birther′ story originated from the 2008 Hillary Clinton campaign via Mark Penn and Sidney Blumenthal. It was the major reason why Obama did not allow Hillary to hire Blumenthal for her team at the State Department.

Naturally, The Media is focusing on the ′wiretap′ aspect of yesterday′s testimony by James Comey and Admiral Mike Rogers. Despite the hysteria, this may have worked out much to the benefit for President Donald Trump, as his Supreme Court nominee, Neil Gorsuch, got essentially a free ride during the first day of his Senate confirmation hearing. Comey′s testimony about how most of the leaked information to The Media is ″dead wrong″ also supports President Trump′s views about the Fake News Media. Of course, these committee hearings on the Russia hacking will continue. Who knows, maybe somebody will start asking questions about ties between the Clintons and the Russians? There are plenty of those! Aside from that, the biggest news item is that James Comey hates “Patriots”! That is, the NFL team, the New England Patriots. He’s a New York Giants fan.
