The ultra Liberal school, Hampshire College in Amherst, Massachusetts, has decided to muzzle their students after some 1,000 veterans held a protest against flag burning over the weekend. Following the victory of President-Elect Donald J. Trump, the college had lowered its campus flag to half-staff as students and faculty mourned over the election results. Then, on November 11, Veterans Day, an unknown vandal took the flag and burned it in protest. The school then announced that no replacement fag would be put on the flag pole for the rest of the year. This led to a protest by 1,000 U.S. veterans, outraged by the lack of respect to the nation and those who fought for it.

flag burning free speech

As the story of the protest by veterans spread, members of The Media descended upon Hampshire College. I′ll bet that even Jessie Watters of the Fox News Channel probably showed up to interview the stupid students. This led to the college deciding to ban free speech, denying students the right to talk with The Media. Oddly enough, those in the Liberal Media were busy attacking President-Elect Donald J. Trump after he posted a tweet on Twitter. Trump voiced his outrage saying that those who burn the American flag should face consequences. He even suggested either revoking the flag burner′s citizenship, or putting the scoundrel in jail for a year.

So, all day Tuesday, the ′Fake News′ liars on CNN, MSNBC and other media websites and such were railing against Donald Trump over his tweet. How dare he suggest ending the 1st Amendment right of a flag burning protester! The next thing you know, he′ll want to put journalists in cages! What a joke! Oddly enough, the same fools in The Media are not saying one peep about how the Hampshire College administrators are suspending the 1st Amendment.

Now, as far as I know, the U.S. Supreme Court has ruled that if you want to burn your own flag as a form of political protest, such action is protected by the 1st Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. Not long after the high court ruled on the matter, some in Congress, including then Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, proposed a law in 2006 making flag burning illegal for reasons other than those outlined by proper disposal procedures of worn flags. The law went nowhere.

But, in the case of what happened on Veterans Day at Hampshire College, the flag that was burned was actually school property! Not privately owned by the unknown protester. So, while Trump may be simply expressing his anger over a lack of respect for our national symbol, as well as to our veterans, he is correct that there should be consequences. The protester was, at the very least, a vandal and a thief. He, or she, stole school property and destroyed it. A crime was committed and the perpetrator should be hunted down, arrested and face criminal prosecution.

As for those who run Hampshire College and instituting a ban on students from talking with members of The Media, squashing their 1st Amendment rights of free speech, they should all be arrested as well, or at least forced to resign. If Jessie Watters, or other members of The Media, want to talk with students off campus and expose how stupid they are, that is the students problem. We′ve all seen these sorts of news items before where people are ignorant about history, politics and other subjects. You would have one or two days of embarrassment and then the locusts of The Media would move on to something else. Hardly worth justifying the denial of a Constitutional right. That is my opinion, take it or leave it!
