The 5th GOP debate will air tonight on CNN from Las Vegas, Nevada. All eyes will be on Donald Trump, of course, who has extended his lead over the other Republican Party presidential candidates. The two latest national polls, from Monmouth University and from the Washington Post, each showing Trump well out in front by nearly 30 points ahead of second place Ted Cruz. Jeb Bush had once claimed that by today, December 15, Trump would be history. Instead, Jeb looks to be fading fast with his poll numbers hovering in the 3% to 5% range. We can expect Wolf Blitzer to attack Trump on his recent statements about temporarily banning all foreign Muslims from acquiring visas. A subject which, in the light of recent revelations that no background checks of applicant′s social media are being done, seems to be prudent.
The main event begins at 9pm Eastern with just nine GOP candidates on stage. Donald Trump will have the center stage spot, flanked by Ted Cruz and Ben Carson. For some strange reason, John Kasich, Carly Fiorina, Chris Christie and Rand Paul are allowed to join the front runners, along with Jeb Bush and Marco Rubio. While all six of these other candidates are in the single digits, poll-wise, the first four mentioned are at 3% or less. There is an earlier debate scheduled to start at 6pm, but why bother? Other than seeing if Lindsay Graham is drunk or flaming, there isn′t much point.
On the bright side, at least this is only the 5th GOP debate we shall see tonight on CNN. By this time back in 2011, the Republicans must have had at least a dozen or so debates! I was going to say 88 debates, but then I would be exaggerating more than Donald Trump′s doctor. So will you watch the Republican presidential debate tonight? Who will you cheer for? Pay attention to the most? Will you play a drinking game during it? Whatever you do, feel free to post on social media since the Obama administration won′t monitor you, even if you are a terrorist!
