You know Democrats are getting desperate when they start talking about dusting off Al Gore to run for president in 2016. The guy who claims to have invented the Internet, and won a Noble Peace Prize for predicting that New York City would be under water due to global warming by now is back in the news. As the FBI probe into the Hillary Clinton email scandal is underway, the DNC is getting nervous about their front-running candidate for the White House. Just based on what we currently know, it does appear that at the very least, Hillary Clinton, while serving as Secretary of State, violated at least one provision of Title 18 of the U.S. Code, Part I, Chapter 93, Section 1924 pertaining to the mishandling of classified material.
The law is very specific on this: ″Whoever, being an officer, employee, contractor, or consultant of the United States, and, by virtue of his office, employment, position, or contract, becomes possessed of documents or materials containing classified information of the United States, knowingly removes such documents or materials without authority and with the intent to retain such documents or materials at an unauthorized location shall be fined under this title or imprisoned for not more than one year, or both.″ Worse yet may be 18 USC 793 (f)(1)-(2) which deals with the transmission of such documents or material using ″unapproved channels″. That is a felony subject to a possible 10-year prison sentence. As it was the Obama administration′s policy that all government appointees and employees use only ′.gov′ email accounts, it would be fair to say that Hillary used an unapproved channel to communicate.
The scandal goes much deeper and wider, encompassing much of the Obama administration. Not since the old spy-scare days which scandalized British government officials in the late 1950s through 1960s have we seen a situation that could involve so many over the mishandling of classified material. The fact that a whole lot of White House and other Executive Branch officials knew that Hillary was not using a .gov email account is very bad. On top of that, it has been about 30 months before the administration has done anything to secure such material. The State Department just sent Hillary Clinton′s lawyer, David Kendall, an authorized and approved safe to store the thumb-drive this week. Likewise, the FBI has taken possession of the email server only this week.
We know that Joe Biden is considering jumping in the 2016 race, urged by many senior Democrats who fear that the Hillary Clinton campaign may implode. Now Al Gore is also being asked by some to throw his hat in the ring as another optional back-up. One rumor floating about Washington is that John Kerry is also being talked to, but he will not commit one way or the other until Biden and Gore make a decision. This could be the real reason why the DNC has selected the date of October 13 for their first televised presidential debate. To give any possible additional candidates time to declare their intentions.
